Hey, my edit to Angel Hernandez was 100% truthful. Why the deletion? 98.217.235.103 ( talk) 13:24, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
Hi Master of Mayhem,
Welcome to the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog elimination drives! I believe it's your first time there? I've just had a bit of a look at the articles you've listed as having copy-edited for May, and think they may need a bit more work.
Please make sure you've carefully read Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Backlog elimination drives, and that you're familiar with Wikipedia:Basic copyediting and the Wikipedia:Manual of Style. Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/How to contains some useful advice. I'll drop the 'Reviewer chair' User:Diannaa a note, and she may be able to provide some more specific advice. Cheers, -- jjron ( talk) 13:38, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
I will look at the History of Sri Lanka tomorrow. It looks OK and I think it only needs some punctuation fixes. If you could please adjust your totals on the drive page for the first two articles that would be great. Thanks. -- Diannaa ( Talk) 03:10, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Hi m8
Thanks very much for the bstar :¬)
Long time no speak, glad you joined GOCE though. If you need any help feel free to ask.
Did you attempt the various practice pages ? Wikipedia:WikiProject_Guild_of_Copy_Editors/How_to They do take a little time but may help if you haven't already done them. If you want to steal anything from my user pages feel free lol. I find the GOCE sections particularly useful here and here as well as this:
Nice to see you got your tabs up and running! Anyway, good luck for the May drive and, as I said before, any help just ask :¬) Chaosdruid ( talk) 18:13, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
I dunno what happened there, I thought I had left you a note after I Roboassessed it yesterday! Sorry m8, something must have gone wrong with the save - maybe I closed the tab too quickly. I thought it was strange it was already gone when I came to say thx, I guessed that you had the autoarchive set at 24 hours, guess I was wrong lol. Anyway I basically said:
Nice work! Especially the completed tables, I have assessed it as a start class.
Everything ok with you? I haven't bumped in to any edits you have made recently, but have been off for a fortnight with conjunctivitis :¬( and only just caught up with all the goings on in time for the start of the GOCE copyedit drive...
Keep up the good work! Chaosdruid ( talk) 19:12, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
Chaosdruid has given you a fresh piece of fried chicken! Pieces of fried chicken promote WikiLove and hopefully this piece has made your day a little better. Spread the WikiLove by giving someone else a piping hot piece, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or a good friend. Bon appetit!
Spread the tastiness of fried chicken by adding {{ subst:GiveChicken}} to their talk page with a friendly message, or gobble up this chicken the giver's talk page with {{ subst:MunchChicken}}!!
Sheesh, I thought it was going to be a real live pre-being-cooked chicken, I was going to say "This one you can eat if you can catch it!" Chaosdruid ( talk) 19:23, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
Plus they really need to sort out the headers on these little wikilove banners lol - "A Give chicken for you"? what the hell did that mean? Chaosdruid ( talk) 11:54, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
I don't want to sound like a bad school teacher, or a nagging parent, but probably will lol - you shouldn't really count articles in the "completed" section if you haven't finished them, such as the Tupolev one...
You also seem to have missed quite a bit in the History of Sri Lanka one and you might want to go over it again. Alternatively I could copyedit it as well, and then you could see the changes I make - either choice is fine by me :¬)
I just want to make sure that you don't get into any deep water with out a flotation aid, or a creek without a paddle, as someone will be along to check your work sooner or later, well sooner as I was going to check one of them tonight lol, anyway have another look and let me know which you decide.
Chaosdruid ( talk) 03:07, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
I have copydited the lead and you can have a look to see what I did here [1]. Obviously I would not expect you to make all those sort of changes yet as you are a fledgling copyeditor, I am just showing you so that you can look at it for reference :¬) I will have a look into the article itself now and provide a critique of it for you.
Generally the copyediting you did was fine, mainly some punctuation necessary - for which I recommend a read of Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Punctuation and the exercises on learning to copyedit pages on the GOCE how to and some which are on my GOCE page User:Chaosdruid/usefullinks/GOCE under the section "Tony's editing guides").
It took a considerable time for me to copyedit the article, as you can see (4 hours), and rather than me list the main areas you missed it is probably better if you look at my edits from the diffs, which might also help you understand more.
Try and just do one section at a time. Doing one big copyedit has a couple of disadvantages: other editors cannot easily use diffs to see what was changed and if anyone did try and edit while you were doing the copyedit you would have got an edit-conflict which would have been difficult to fix. You can also then stop for a break! continuing when you have recovered, or the next day if it goes into the early hours.
I hope this hasn't put you off copyediting! THe article was a pretty difficult one and I do admire you for trying it. There is a lot to learn from MoS' to grammatical problems (see this one User:Giraffedata/comprised_of out of interest) and if you are not sure of things, or want someone else to go over your work, you can always ask. I am more than happy to help, as would many others, the learning curve is fairly steep at first - you should see some of the mistakes I made in the first few months lol! Guild of Copy Editors May 2011 backlog elimination drive update
Greetings from the
Guild of Copy Editors
May 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here is your mid-drive newsletter.
![]() So far, 54 people have signed up for the drive, and 33 are actively participating. If you signed up for the drive but have not participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you have not signed up for the drive yet, you can
sign up now. If you have questions about getting started, feel free to
talk to us. Many thanks to those editors who have been helping out at the
Requests page. We currently have 17 articles awaiting edit.
We are making slow progress on achieving our target of reducing the overall backlog by 15%; in order to accomplish this goal we will need to complete about 400 more articles. However, we are making good progress on the 2009 backlog, as we have eliminated over half of the articles from 2009 that were present at the start of the drive. Let's concentrate our fire power on the remaining months from 2009; leaderboard awards will be handed out for 2009 articles this drive. Thank you for participating in the May 2011 drive. We hope it will be another success! Your drive coordinators – S Masters ( talk), Diannaa ( Talk), Tea with toast, Chaosdruid, and Torchiest |
