Hi, o Paranoid One! Good work on the stub sorting. for future reference, you can give places in the Dominican Republic (or any of the west indian islands the template Caribbean-geo-stub, rather than just geo-stub... it puts them in a slightly more precise category. Keep up the good work and welcome aboard!

hello?

Much to my frustration, I sat down one afternoon and worked my way through every *#&@( link in the (I think) category:Stub page and found not one dog article. And yet many of them still have the incorrect stub msg! So I don't know why I didn't find them-- and thanks for fixing them as you find them. I've been working my way alphabetically through all the dog breed articles but have made it only through J. Sigh.
Question, though--you added dog-stub to 2 articles that it had been removed from, Hungarian Vizsla and Pudelpointer. Both articles have at least a minimum amount of info about the breed's appearance, history, and temperament, and so it doesn't seem accurate to call them stubs--hence removal of the msg. So I'm curious what criteria you're using to put the msg back in? Elf | Talk 16:39, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)
OK. Thanks. We're lucky to get this much info in an article about a breed--lots of people created articles along the lines of "The Border Collie is a breed of dog." :-) Elf | Talk 17:18, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Hi, what is so stubby about Gielgud Theatre? In other words, what is missing? Please explain!
Thanks in advance, and all the best, <KF> 22:06, Apr 7, 2005 (UTC)
You marked OpenTalk as needing cleanup. While I agree it's a mess, I don't think it's worth the effort. It's a rumored name that nobody abelieved at the time that was proven wrong. I've been trying to think of how to nominate it for deletion, but if you know how to do that I'd definitely support it. -- Steven Fisher 00:31, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)
nb: there is already two stub categories that already describe both aspects of the article at Quantrix. Dysprosia 01:06, 1 May 2005 (UTC)

Sorry, I was in the middle of my daily update of the page when I ran into an edit conflict with you. I thought I had redone your edits, but I guess I missed Sallybrook. Skipping Salar ud-din Muhammad Khan, however, was deliberate as it is still a deadend page. Despite signifigant improvement it does not yet link to any other articles, only to redlinks, a template, and a category. - SimonP 21:55, May 15, 2005 (UTC)
Thank you for your stub sorting! You designated Hendecagram as a geometry-stub, and my bot which looks for math articles through math categories found it and made a link to it from the list of mathematical topics. So now that stub is no longer an orfan, but rather, it is in the family, and we will take good care of it. :)
In short, you are doing great work. Classified stubs are, as you know, much easier to locate and deal with. Keep on doing that! Oleg Alexandrov 22:38, 16 May 2005 (UTC)
Legit sources: WP:PD.
Biography.ms: see Wikipedia:Mirrors_and_forks/Abc#Biography.ms. I ran across this while clearing copyvios and just had a gut feeling that it was a mirror not crediting us. I verified with the Wayback machine and by looking at the many different articles on Biography.ms which were all the same as wikipedia articles that had long development histories. Later, I found the wikipedia page mentioned above.
It can be frustrating, and I hope the two pages you mentioned don't scare you off from copyvio patrol. -- Duk 06:01, 25 May 2005 (UTC)
Hi there,
If you say they're stubs, then I am sure they are stubs. But can you suggest how I can turn the content of The Eagle of the Ninth, The Silver Branch and The Lantern Bearers into articles rather than stubs? I was concerned that they were too short, but not sure what would make them better: see the comments on the talk page for the books' author for my concerns.

Remember, it’s not paranoia if they are really out to get you! :]
Thanks for the note--I've 'nowiki'ed it out. I guess I gotta be more careful when I copy things from the article space--some else had noticed that section had Categories and removed them earlier. Niteowlneils 20:47, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hi - I made a list of users who've been around long enough to have made lots of edits but aren't admins. If you're at all interested in becoming an admin, can you please add an '*' immediately before your name in this list? I've suggested folks nominating someone might want to puruse this list, although there is certainly no guarantee anyone will ever look at it. Thanks. -- Rick Block ( talk) 17:37, Jun 26, 2005 (UTC)
Thanks...what do you want me to discuss about it? -- Hottentot
Hi Paranoid One
I noticed you changed the vowel placement on the Bengali script page. For me, the vowel placement was working before, and now there is the little Unicode dotted circle carrying each vowel diacritic instead of the kô itself. For me, at least, the vowels no longer work. I don't know if that has to do with the fact that I use Mozilla Firefox. Does it look better now on IE/whatever browser you are using?
If it's just my browser, I'm of course fine with the change! I just want to make sure it's not also more confusing on other browsers.
Thanks! -- SameerKhan 19:52, 18 July 2005 (UTC)
Well, almost all the stubs are short-handed. Eco, biz, bio, etc. So why not acc? Accounting is just too long. Is there any specific reason you asking? Renata3 20:26, 24 July 2005 (UTC)
Hey there, sorry for the early mistakes with the Transformers stub and category. I'm not so MUCH of a newby now, but I do think there is a use for the Transformers-stub, being that it has a large amount of subjects and characters. I think it's too large to just be in the toys category. Thoughts? MistaTee 15:46, 26 July 2005 (UTC)

I'm trying to make a reference page for Hunger, which is a very rare Metallica song, but I can't do anything without messing up the WikiOrder (i.e, Hunger the page is redirected from World Hunger, and I'm not sure how to get around that without messing something up). Hey there. I'm pleased to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator! You've volunteered to do housekeeping duties that normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops can't do a lot of stuff: They can't delete pages just like that (except patent nonsense like "aojt9085yu8;3ou"), and they can't protect pages in an edit war they are involved in. But they can delete random junk, ban anonymous vandals, delete pages listed on Votes for deletion (provided there's a consensus) for more than one week, protect pages when asked to, and keep the few protected pages that exist on Wikipedia up to date.
Almost anything you can do can be undone, but please take a look at The Administrators' how-to guide and the Administrators' reading list before you get started (although you should have read that during your candidacy ;). Take a look before experimenting with your powers. Also, please add Administrators' noticeboard to your watchlist, as there are always discussions/requests for admins there. If you have any questions drop me a message at My talk page. Have fun! =Nichalp «Talk»=Please also add your name to WP:LA. =Nichalp «Talk»= 15:03, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

Although my RfA is not over yet, I figured that since so many people voted before it had been posted, I may as well start thanking people before it wraps up. It'll take me that long to thank everyone who voted anyway! Thank you, oh great Paranoid One, for your support - really, I wasn't one already, but it looks like I will be soon - and I'll do my best as an admin to make the reality rise to the level of the dream. Hello good sir! Sorry that I'm being such a troublesome newcomer, but I was wondering if you could help me sort out this code;
[[User:Master of Puppets| <font color="red">Master of Puppets</font>]]<small>[[User talk:Master of Puppets|(<font color="red">M<font color="blue">A<font color="green">S</small><small><font color="red>T<font color="blue">E<font color="green">R<font color="red">'''!'''</small> <small><font color="red">M<font color="blue">A<font color="green">S </small><small><font color="red>T<font color="blue">E<font color="green">R<font color="red">'''!''')]]</font></small>
Now, that should look like this; Master of Puppets (MAS TER! MAS TER!)
The escalating letters weren't meant to be, but I can live with that... my query is, why is the Preferences rejecting it? It tells me that this is an invalid raw signature, and to check the HTML tags. I know nothing of any HTML being used in my signature, and all I wanted was for the letters to have different coloring... sigh, I'm bamboozled by this stupid code, and I just wanted to see if you could help me piece together this bumbling mass of confusion. -- Master of Puppets 00:47, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
To be honest I'm not sure that it is all laid out neatly anywhere. You could try hunting through Category:Wikipedia categorization, and there is a wikiproject that might be able to help ( Wikipedia:WikiProject Categories). Other than that though, I'm not sure. Was there any one thing in particular that was being a problem? Grutness... wha? 02:11, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
Greetings!
During my recent RFA, I pointed out that I was more interested in travelling the less-travelled roads of the Wikipedia infrastructure, particularly the various xFD pages where "x" isn't "A" or "I". Well, apparently my comments were compelling, and I was given Sysop statuse. Since then, a few other admins and I have recently brought WP:RFD into some semblance of cohesion, and now I seek to expand my horizons.
I have been reading (and reading and reading, and then re-reading, etc) WP:SFD. I confess that it's a little byzantine at first blush, and it's taking me several passes to take it all in. But I would like to help out in whatever capacity I can. You seem to be one of the prime movers of WP:SFD, so I'm hoping you might have some advice on how I might ease myself into the world of WP:SFD in a constructive fashion. Any tips for a newbie admin?
Thanks for your time,

Okay, I finally took the plunge in WP:SFD. I was studying the discussion about {{ California State Highway Stub}}, and had just decided to move the stub to {{ California-State-Highway-stub}} when I noticed that you'd edited the list at WP:STUBS. So it looks like you either moved the stub already or you're going to very shortly.
With that in mind, I removed the discussion for California State Highway Stub from SFD and archived it at Wikipedia:Stub types for deletion/Log/Deleted/November 2005.
Would you mind taking a look at what I've done and making sure I've done it properly? If so, what's the next step from here?

Your deletion of the antipope stub was incorrect. Firstly, there was no consensus behind it. Secondly, as was pointed out, such a stub is needed because the use of any of the alternatives would breach NPOV rules. We can't use pope because they are not regarded as popes. We cannot use Catholic because their status within Catholicism is disputed. We cannot use Christian because that too is disputed. The only option is to use one specific to them that matches their general historiograph description, which is antipope. In that instance, as there is no alternative, the fact that the numbers of those who would use the category is below the normal minimum number is immaterial as some stub has to be used and there is no alternative designation that does not run the risk of edit wars and breach NPOV. So that one is the only one that can be used.

I am cautous about realeasing this. The page counts, if this is a major issue can be proggramed into the bot in about 15 min. The only reason that I have refrianed from doing so, is that the bot uses the < symol to tell it where the end of the line is. The < symbol does not make sense when used with pages. <10 pages does not look as good as < 2000. To change this it would take more time to change my regex formulas. Eagle ( talk) ( desk)

I think it was intentional (IIRC), but I won't swear it's not a error of interpretation. Are we logging as "deleted" moves where nothing is actually deleted (i.e. neither the existing template nor category)? As that's effectively a "no admin action required", does that actually need to be logged in that manner? (As in the instance where Cyde renamed biosci-stub in mid-discussion, which I initially found odd (and still do, somewhat), but isn't exactly an "early closure" as such.) I was a bit surprised to notice that {{ France-journalist-stub}} had nothing linking to it, as it had some "upmerged population" after being on SFD. Turns out it'd been turned into a redirect, and each use replaced by bot. That seems counterproductive to me, as the whole point of upmerging is to keep the template and currently linked articles "pre-sorted" in case of a future split. (I'd personally also have preferred to keep a distinct template, but that's a nicety.) Alai 22:43, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Might my student (a new wikipedian) have been contacted first with opportunity to rectify this if she had not selected a license? My memory is that she did. Just thought I'd say that I wasn't taking that criteria to apply because it's listed in the articles category, not images. But looking at that notice, I didn't make what I was thinking, very clear. Thanks - Рэд хот 12:27, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

If you're at all interested in becoming an admin, can you please add an '*' immediately before your name in this list?

Hey there, sorry for the early mistakes with the Transformers stub and category. I'm not so MUCH of a newby now, but I do think there is a use for the Transformers-stub, being that it has a large amount of subjects and characters.

Ah, I did not realize that, but thank you. So even though there's a large listed backlog of images needing info, unless I have that source info, there's nothing I can do to help? Just curious. Thanks again. | Mr. Darcy talk 21:00, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
Hi, would you please "speedily" restore the photo you deleted without first communicating with me? As explained in some detail on that photo's page, I had written permission from Jay C. Easton, the photographer, for the use of that photo. Would you be more careful in the future about this type of thing? Thanks, I appreciate it. Badagnani 04:30, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
Hello. Are you saying there was no license with the Bembo type specimen? I teach an advanced typography course and believe I remember my student, the creator of the illustration you have speedily deleted, choosing one, and also declaring herself as the creator. Might my student (a new wikipedian) have been contacted first with opportunity to rectify this if she had not selected a license? My memory is that she did. I don't know what I did wrong to get the image deleted... Is it correct now?

Just thought I'd say that I wasn't taking that criteria to apply because it's listed in the articles category, not images. But looking at that notice, I didn't make what I was thinking, very clear. Thanks - Рэд хот 12:27, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
