One of these from me as well. Here's to many more women writers in 2015 - happy editing, and keep up the good work! -- Ser Amantio di Nicolao Che dicono a Signa? Lo dicono a Signa. 00:56, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
What we could really use is a nav box but one with an interactive map linking all articles on Broadway geographically. Not sure it is possible but I saw somethng similar in the Vegas strip article or something like that. I'm not really sure how long it is though!♦ Dr. Blofeld 23:15, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
53 km!! Yikes!! OK then, a nav box connecting articles on a map by sizable section of Broadway and then links to other boxes underneath to move onto the next one etc...♦ Dr. Blofeld 23:18, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
I created Template:Broadway (Manhattan). Some of the landmarks aren't categorised as Broadway (Manhattan) yet which you might finish off. I suppose wikiatlas does provide a map. It's not ideal but buildings in some sort of order along a major street at least improves navigation. Others like Park, 5th and 7th should have ones too I think. Can't find what museum Museum of African Art is supposed to be though, if you look on google maps it's a big museum near Central Park it's not in Long Island City like the other one we have.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:23, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
Why not create a list? List of buildings and structures on Broadway (Manhattan). New entries can be added to the template afterwards then.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:26, 3 January 2015 (UTC)
Yeah I think a separate article written as fully as possible first and then we can use material to write a summary in the main article.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:39, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
Emailed.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:31, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
Sorry, just reorganizing the 1893 Waldorf article into something which I think might work better for it. I've cocked up the history and probably removed some material in doing though so LOL! Tricky to decide what belongs in history or architecture, but you might restore the earlier part of the history and change it to background or something to explain Astor's building purposes etc. The real details on height etc belong in architecture I think.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:49, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
I think I've sorted out the background now but there'll still be some duplication further down needing sorting. I think it's a good idea to have sub sections on all the notable people with mini biographies.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:56, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
All yours for now! I ate pie and chips for dinner and feeling too tired and bloated now LOL! Yeah I think it'll look better in the current shape once fully researched and written, and then the main article early history will look more like a summary rather than a copy. There really ought to be PD material on the architecture if that lesser hotel we did last week has it! In the Morrison book some of the earlier pages are about the rooms of the 1893 hotel I think Check out pages 22-30s etc in here. I might see if I can get hold of that book as a lot of pages are missing from the preview which might be valuable, but last time I looked on amazon it was unavailable, Is it available in the US?.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:59, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
It was, with peas and gravy hehe, very British!! I think we could get away with quite a big gallery of room photos for the article you know, they have much encyclopedic value I think.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:05, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
You may like to contribute to this woman's article which I have substantially expanded.-- Nvvchar. 10:36, 5 January 2015 (UTC)
Would you like Asthana Vidushi nominated on DYK? You and Dr. Blofeld may like to expand this User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Sophia Duleep Singh interesting princess's biography further.-- Nvvchar. 17:19, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

For your impressive work on the Waldorf Astoria (New York, 1893)!! You seem to have been enjoying yourself! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:42, 7 January 2015 (UTC) |
You might want to revise "The plan of the combined Hotel Waldorf-Astoria indicates that the Waldorf was planned without any intention of adding the Astoria to it" though as the book I have indicate that Peacock Alley had been planned all along to connect them.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:43, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
Did you go through that Morrison book afterwards and add details on the old Waldorf hotel? Tomorrow I think I might write a summary of the original architecture in the main article, unless you want to? At the beginning of architecture a section on the old hotels first in a summary I was thinking. Wouldn't it be wort getting it to GA? Not too much needing doing now. I'll go through that Morrison book tomorrow then and then a summary can be written. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:14, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
I'll definitely be getting the current one to GA. About 90% done already I reckon. Possible to get the old one there too, I think we might need to find a bit more on its history and some details on things like restaurants and bars first though, and of course cleaning up the prose from the PD a bit more!.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:30, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
I've been bored with wikipedia in general the last few days! Funny isn't it how different things feel at times!♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:38, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
Can you find the specific sources where required for the Waldorf Hotel section of Waldorf–Astoria (New York, 1893)? It's just I suspect the Empire Room and Waldorf Restaurant were the same room, so need to know the sources where the info came from to merge if possible. Before I can complete the main Waldorf Astoria article the 1893 one needs to be done and dusted first really so I can ensure than my condensed summary of the architecture in the main article is comprehensive! There's a little bit of confusion over what belongs to what hotel and overlap with the joined hotel section, the ballroom was originally on the first floor of the Astoria Hotel I believe, it might need a bit of a restructure to work around it, but I think it's probably best as it is. Can you also add bio sections on John Jacob Astor IV and Lucius M. Boomer? I have some stuff on Boomer in my book which could be used for an article. Some of the other bios like Astor and the architect could use some reinforcement with other sources. Are the Manhattan and Martinique hotels really missing too? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:36, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

On 12 January 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Lumaha'i Beach, which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the Lumaha'i Beach, at the mouth of the Lumaha'i River in Hawaii, is remembered as the scenic location for a song sequence in the 1958 film South Pacific? You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page ( here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |

Hi Rosie. Just a word to let you know I've finally started on this with a List of Danish women writers (which of course still needs to be significantly expanded). I'll continue with the other Nordic countries, then see how much time I have left for the rest of Europe. Ultimately there could be a master List of European women writers. I've taken this approach as the Americans, Brits and other English-speakers are already quite well covered. I also hope to add a number of short biographies.-- Ipigott ( talk) 12:37, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
Ipigott, thank you for the Danish list and I look forward to seeing the other lists you'll be creating. -- Rosiestep ( talk) 15:08, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
Wikipedia:WikiProject Dictionary of National Biography/Missing women has been started, not sure if you know about it. Will get back to the hotel articles a bit later!♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:10, 16 January 2015 (UTC)

Can you also mention the orchestra in the main article? Can you start Paris Ball, there's some initial info in the history of the main one from 1952 onwards. I have some additional details in my book which could be added, definitely notable!♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:32, 16 January 2015 (UTC)
I meant mentioning the orchestra in the main Waldorf Astoria New York article. It seems to scare you that article for whatever reason haha. Thanks for starting the ball BTW.♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:46, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
See, that's what I love the most about wikipedia, that you can create articles such as that and make the project that bit more special, digging up long forgotten things of the past with specialist information on them. Not to mention the many notable red links it creates which in turn must be started! Let me know when you think the 1893 article and the ball is comprehensive enough and I'll create some summary sections in the main article, unless you could do that? Wouldn't need much work as it's already written, just some good summary skills! A section on the ball with main article link can go under the restaurant section and then I can remove some of the detail from the history. The architecture section of the main Waldorf article needs a good chunky paragraph or two at the top summarising the old hotel building. That way both Waldorf's can be listed as our GAs once promoted! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:46, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
Good job, hehe some detective work now needed on what replaced it up until 1924!♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:47, 17 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi! Thank you for subscribing to the WikiProject X Newsletter. For our first issue...
Has WikiProject X changed the world yet? No.
We opened up shop last month and announced our existence to the world. Our first phase is the "research" phase, consisting mostly of reading and listening. We set up our landing page and started collecting stories. So far, 28 stories have been shared about WikiProjects, describing a variety of experiences across numerous WikiProjects. A recurring story involves a WikiProject that starts off strong but has trouble continuing to stay active. Most people describe using WikiProjects as a way to get feedback from other editors. Some quotes:
Of course, these are just anecdotes. While they demonstrate what is possible, they do not necessarily explain what is typical. We will be using this information in conjunction with a quantitative analysis of WikiProjects, as documented on Meta. Particularly, we are interested in the measurement of WikiProject activity as it relates to overall editing in that WikiProject's subject area.
We also have 50 people and projects signed up for pilot testing, which is an excellent start! (An important caveat: one person volunteering a WikiProject does not mean the WikiProject as a whole is interested; just that there is at least one person, which is a start.)
While carrying out our research, we are documenting the problems with WikiProjects and our ideas for making WikiProjects better. Some ideas include better integration of existing tools into WikiProjects, recommendations of WikiProjects for people to join, and improved coordination with Articles for Creation. These are just ideas that may or may not make it to the design phase; we will see. We are also working with WikiProject Council to improve the directory of WikiProjects, with the goal of a reliable, self-updating WikiProject directory. Stay tuned! If you have any ideas, you are welcome to leave a note on our talk page.
That's all for now. Thank you for subscribing!

My proposed Wikimania talk "How To Pick Up More Women" is here. Ok when I hope you have stopped smiling (first time?) then you may realise that this is about what we have been doing for the last year and more. So I'm using women as the hook cos lots of people understand the issue. However I have a serious idea that what I'm trying to solve here is a problem of .... um ....Cultural Anthropology. So you might smile again. No rush, but if you (or anyone reading this) have some thoughts then Id be be very pleased to listen. Cheers RS Victuallers ( talk) 20:41, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
@ Victuallers: love the idea!! Let me give it some thought and I'll make some suggestions, but it won't be for a few days because of family commitments through the weekend. -- Rosiestep ( talk) 03:51, 13 February 2015 (UTC)
@ Rosiestep: Well you have tipped the balance Rosie. I have had some intakes of breath over my approach, but I'm pleased to see that you "get it". There is a discussion on my page which has some some good ideas. Are you hoping/intending to go to Wikimania. I have some family issues too. My partners birthday is this weekend). However this intended to create a longer term reaction. Hope to hear from you next week. I may copy your reply to my page ..... cheers Victuallers ( talk) 10:32, 13 February 2015 (UTC)
@ Victuallers: I really want to go and participate in Wikimania, but I can't justify paying for the travel. I haven't put in for a travel grant as I imagine there are a lot of editors who don't have a full-time job who would probably be considered more financially deserving (or am I suffering from imposter syndrome?). -- Rosiestep ( talk) 15:05, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

Rosie, thank you for your feedback. *ALWAYS* appreciated. Today I have been working on the article: 2015 Mount Carbon train derailment, which happened in a state I once lived in, and still love. Most of my edits have been of the house keeping variety. I have noticed that when new articles come about, especially involving "current events", prose suffers, as does proper categorization, etc. I have been trying to help out in those areas, while leaving the heavy lifting for another day (letting other editors carry the load for now...) Let me know what you think of the article, and my (albeit somewhat limited, to date) involvement. Thanks! Juneau Mike ( talk) 03:55, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

Dear fellow Wikipedian, In celebration of WikiWomen's History Month, the SF Bay Area Wikipedia community has two events in early March -- please consider attending! First, we have an ArtAndFeminism edit-a-thon, which will take place at the Kadist Art Foundation from 12 noon to 6pm on Saturday, March 7. We'll be one of many sites worldwide participating in this edit-a-thon on March 7th. So join us as we help improve Wikipedia's coverage of women artists and their works! Second, we will be celebrating International Women's Day with the International Women's Day edit-a-thon on Sunday, March 8 from 1pm to 5pm at the Wikimedia Foundation. Our editing focus will be on women, of course! I hope to see you there! Thanks for Template:Did you know nominations/Anne Rudloe (you are priceless and precious) and for the 8 March reminder. In fact, I'm going to go see what my syllabus has for that day and how I can celebrate it in a lit class. Drmies ( talk) 17:33, 22 February 2015 (UTC) |
Why would you use such a title that is associated with PUA culture that is clearly misogynistic for a talk about women editors? Is this an attempt to be an attention-grabber? Because it only has bad associations for me. We want to engage women and encourage them to participate, not "pick them up". Liz Read! Talk! 22:47, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi Rosiestep! Thanks for that notification on my talk page, I have signed up. I have also proposed a proposal here, I'm not sure if it will be accepted or not but I want members of our Project to sign up as my proposal is also indirectly related to picking up more Womens from developing countries. Free of charge access to Wikipedia will increase the traffic and ultimately more Womens. I would be glad if you and other members could sign up. Thanks! Jim Carter 06:52, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

I created an article for Marta Lamas today. Am working on a piece about Mexican feminism and it is virtually impossible to discuss the topic without her. BUT, my question is, I spent hours and hours inputting and translating just a tiny fraction of her articles. She is prolific. Has over 20 pages of works listed on Amazon. Is there a site which would more easily list them so that I do not have to individually list each article? Since you work on women writers, and speak Spanish, what's the best way to do it? List them all? Seems to be POV if we "select" which ones to include or not. HELP! SusunW ( talk) 06:34, 25 February 2015 (UTC)

Today's (27 February) Financial Times has an interesting article by Emma Jacobs titled "Editors-for-hire on Wikipedia" (print edition) or "Business Life: Wikipedia’s editors-for-hire" (digital edition) discussing reactions from editors who have been paid for their work. In connection with your Wikimedia presentation, comments from Michael Wood seem particularly pertinent: "The 38-year-old had edited in his spare time without remuneration for eight years. In this time, he has watched Wikipedia, he says, move from being an open community to what he sees as a small band of editors guarding the castle. (The number of editors on the English-language Wikipedia has been in decline since 2007.) 'People try to write [entries] themselves and get frustrated by the volunteer editors. There's lots of good editors on Wikipedia but there's a bad group ... They make it hard.' He also claims that high-handed self-appointed guardians of Wikipedia are the reason that so many women and ethnic minorities are deterred from editing. A report by the Wikimedia foundation in 2011 found only 9 per cent of editors are women. The foundation is making efforts to encourage more women editors as well as those from ethnic minorities, through edit-a-thons (events in which people work together in person to build content)."-- Ipigott ( talk) 09:00, 27 February 2015 (UTC)
I saw this elsewhere on WP. As I occasionally ramble about on other talk pages, my other half is big on social media and creating a web presence, but she's not keen on Wikipedia, although she has been to meetups and found the people there to be pleasant. Recently in an email conversation to a prominent admin, she said that some UI changes like ping and the article wizard were nice but also mentioned "Unfortunately, the sort of people editing the site haven't changed and it feels too hostile for me, so I generally avoid it." I'm not sure what she could contribute to your presentation, if anything, but her opinion might be worth grabbing. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 17:16, 27 February 2015 (UTC)
Just wanted to bring this revert of mine [3] to your attention. An editor removed most of the content from the article, and ALL references. I did the revert, but not sure how to deal with the editor. The sparse info on his page suggests he will not be neutral on these issues. Thanks for any help/feedback. Juneau Mike ( talk) 15:19, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
I know that there is going to be some sort of effort for March for improving content related to women. And I have to think that there is more than sufficient cause for such work, because that content, unfortunately like several other topic areas around here, is in dire need of development. And, lazy bastard that I am, I tend to doubt that I myself will be likely to be doing much directly regarding that, given a few other things I am actively trying to do here at wikipedia and over at wikisource. Anyway, I did find a few highly regarded reference works relating to women in general, although at least a few include some biographies of males, and have started a section over at Bibliography of encyclopedias: general biographies#Women for those works. I expect there are more, but those are all those on the Guide to Reference website with separate entries. That will include some material on "women's studies" type works and on other topics as well, but those are in different sections of that website and I haven't gotten to all of them yet, but some are listed somewhere (I forget exactly where right now), in one of the bibliography of encyclopedias pages. Adding a lot of other works from that guide is one of the things I will be working on. Some of them appear from that source to be available online, and some others might be as well. Anyway, the information might be useful. John Carter ( talk) 19:36, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
Great job on the bibliographies John Carter!♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:37, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
Hello, Antidiskriminator, Crisco 1492, Gerda Arendt, Ipigott, Krenakarore, Netha Hussain, Nvvchar, SusunW, Thelmadatter, and everyone else who is reading this. Victuallers and I are looking for foreign language alternate titles ("subtitles") for our proposed Wikimania talk, the scope of which is increasing the number and quality of women's biographies on all language Wikipedias. As I know you are proficient in one or more languages other than English, I'm hopeful you will offer a foreign language suggestion or two. Thank you in advance. -- Rosiestep ( talk) 21:54, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
Gerda et al See here - We trust you! Do feel free to amend the entries if I have made a mistake Victuallers ( talk) 00:26, 1 March 2015 (UTC)
To Ellin Beltz, INeverCry, Calliopejen1, SlimVirgin, Montanabw, FloNight, and others: thank you for the feedback you've given thus far on the Wikimania proposal's submission page, its talkpage, etc. We asked for your feedback and you gave it. Apologies for being off-putting to some, so we changed the title, clarified the scope, etc. (cc: Victuallers) -- Rosiestep ( talk) 04:53, 1 March 2015 (UTC)
I am flabbergasted that anyone would question my "personal integrity". Question the proposal's title, question the pun, question the scope, but attack my integrity? Yes, it feels like an attack. You can say that was not your intent, but I will say, that is how it feels. So do I misunderstand you? Maybe. And if I misunderstand you, do you think -- just maybe -- you misunderstand me or that you assume too much? If you knew me... if you knew how much effort I have put into Wikipedia in general and the content gender gap in particular... if you knew I pay my way to attend gender gap edit-a-thons in other states... and if you assumed good faith about my point of view regarding the proposal title, this would be a different conversation, one laced with kindness. Generally, I avoid the spotlight, I avoid drama, I concentrate on article work. But my son tells me, "Mom, you can't write all the articles yourself". So I was elated when I learned that another editor wanted to shine a spotlight on content gender gap at Wikimania and after a bit, I felt it was time to step up to the plate, and actually talk about content gender gap instead of just working on it. I feel no shame, Ellin Beltz, in telling you that you have put me into tears -- not because of "poor little me" -- but because I'm a real person, I am a volunteer, I am a feminist, I am a granddaughter of a feminist, I am a grandmother of a granddaughter, I deeply care about women, and I don't deserve this. Of course, that's my opinion; you are entitled to yours. -- Rosiestep ( talk) 18:34, 1 March 2015 (UTC)
Can you ask your friend not to post his shit on Ellin Beltz's talk? Thanks. INeverCry 06:18, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
@ INeverCry: Excuse me?? If Rosie hadn't have stated that she was upset on the talk page with Ellin's posts I'd probably have not said anything. It came across to me as bullying INeverCry. Somebody sitting behind a screen and spouting hatred at somebody and accusing her of being responsible for degrading women. I'm not going to put up with that sort of abuse, and you ought to be ashamed of yourself for thinking what I said wasn't appropriate.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:17, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
Dear Rosie, I was very inspired by your Wikimania proposal and also by the article about you in Huffington Post. I'm aware that most Wikipedia editors are male, but you expressed the issue of systemic bias so cogently that I was inspired to do some (small) something about it. Last night I wrote an article about a woman for our March DYK women's line-up. I encouraged a female friend and fellow writer to start writing for Wikipedia, and I also changed my Preferences to indicate that I am a "she". Thank you for being an inspiration! Best of luck with your Wikimania presentation. Yoninah ( talk) 11:00, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

This seems a good enough place to put this as cool people seem to hang out here ;-) ... having cleaned up a number of serious BLP violations on Katie Hopkins, I am in half a mind to go the whole hog and improve it to GA status. I feel though that I should say that I find the woman to be utterly odious and repulsive, with a track record and reputation of being offensive for the sake of it, ( example) and my motivation to improve the article is more out of a desire to be able to present a well-written, balanced and neutral account without the hyperbole and drama that accompanies just about every news piece relating to her, just like Nick Griffin's article. However, I think putting her as a DYK for part of International Women's Day would be an extremely ill-judged move that many people would find offensive. Julie Fagerholt (17 April 1968) is a Copenhagen-based Danish fashion designer and founder of the brand Heartmade.
Biography Julie Fagerholt grew up in Skovshoved north of Copenhagen, the daughter of Ninja Tholstrup Bramsen, a child psychologist, and Nils Fagerholt, an architect and a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. [1] She completed her education at the Danish Design School in 1993. In 1998, she set up her company Heartmade in a courtyard on Pilestræde in Copenhagen. Originally she focused on haute couture but since 2000 the brand has also produced prét-à-porter collections. [2] The company has a flagship store at Pilestræde 45 in Copenhagen.

We might want to watch the US Congressman Aaron Schock page. Today, in the section, "Controversies", I saw this: "In March of 2015 new allegations surfaced saying 33-year-old Schock broke House rules when he failed to disclose that he accepted money from an outside group to cover the cost of bringing a male “companion” on an exotic all-expenses-paid trip to India." There was a reference given, to what in my experience is a gossip site.
I changed it to this, and included 2 references: "In March of 2015 new allegations surfaced saying Schock broke House rules when he failed to disclose that he accepted money from an outside group, the Global Poverty Project, to cover the cost of bringing a photographer on an all-expenses-paid trip to New Delhi, India, during a meeting Schock had with Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, discussing Indian sanitation and access to clean water."
Now as a gay Wikipedian, the first version made me smile, but it... ummm... lacked a certain encyclopedic quality to say least. However, there was a little bit of truth to the original posting, which I hope I have salvaged, while removing the nonsense. But allegations and innuendo involving Schock seems to be growing exponentially, and I'm letting you know because it deserves a watchful eye. Not requesting help here, except to help me watch the page. Thanks! Juneau Mike ( talk) 07:46, 16 March 2015 (UTC)

For those projects where people told stories, we coded statements within those stories to figure out what trends there were in these stories. This approach allowed us to figure out what Wikipedians thought of WikiProjects in a very organic way, with very little by way of a structure. (Compare this to a structured interview, where specific questions are asked and answered.) This analysis was done on 29 stories. Codes were generally classified as "benefits" (positive contributions made by a WikiProject to the editing experience) and "obstacles" (issues posed by WikiProjects, broadly speaking). Codes were generated as I went along, ensuring that codes were as close to the original data as possible. Duplicate appearances of a code for a given WikiProject were removed.
We found 52 "benefit" statements encoded and 34 "obstacle" statements. The most common benefit statement referring to the project's active discussion and participation, followed by statements referring to a project's capacity to guide editor activity, while the most common obstacles made reference to low participation and significant burdens on the part of the project maintainers and leaders. This gives us a sense of WikiProjects' big strength: they bring people together, and can be frustrating to editors when they fail to do so. Meanwhile, it is indeed very difficult to bring editors together on a common interest; in the absence of a highly motivated core of organizers, the technical infrastructure simply isn't there.
We wanted to pair this qualitative study with quantitative analysis of a WikiProject and its "universe" of pages, discussions, templates, and categories. To this end I wrote a script called ProjAnalysis which will, for a given WikiProject page (e.g. Wikipedia:WikiProject Star Trek) and WikiProject talk-page tag (e.g. Template:WikiProject Star Trek), will give you a list of usernames of people who edited within the WikiProject's space (the project page itself, its talk page, and subpages), and within the WikiProject's scope (the pages tagged by that WikiProject, excluding the WikiProject space pages). The output is an exhaustive list of usernames. We ran the script to analyze our test batch of WikiProjects for edits between March 1, 2014 and February 28, 2015, and we subjected them to further analysis to only include those who made 10+ edits to pages in the projects' scope, those who made 4+ edits to the projects' space, and those who made 10+ edits to pages in scope but not 4+ edits to pages in the projects' space. This latter metric gives us an idea of who is active in a certain subject area of Wikipedia, yet who isn't actively engaging on the WikiProject's pages. This information will help us prioritize WikiProjects for pilot testing, and the ProjAnalysis script in general may have future life as an application that can be used by Wikipedians to learn about who is in their community.
Complementing the above two studies are a design analysis, which summarizes the structure of the different WikiProject spaces in our test batch, and the comprehensive census of bots and tools used to maintain WikiProjects, which will be finished soon. With all of this information, we will have a game plan in place! We hope to begin working with specific WikiProjects soon.

This is a hard one. I do NOT speak Albanian. I think she is noteworthy but am not sure how we prove it. Julia Gjika I added some data to what you had already put. There is a link to a SQWIKI that gives more data, but I have been unable to source. Would it be worth it to include that data and mark it as citation needed? She appears to be one of the first writers published after the censorship bans were listed and one of the sources I found says her output has increased 5 times since she left Albania. I saw your comment on my Talk Page today, and smiled. The Germanwings Flight 9525 page has taken on a life of its own, and I usually wait until things "slow down" before I jump in. I did restore the Andreas Lubitz page, even though it is barely a stub. An AfD discussion is clearly inevitable, but as I have seen these things go, *IF* he acted as is alleged, there will certainly be an article on him. It shouldn't be an automatic redirect before that discussion happens, and I said so on the Talk Page (which I also filled in) It will be interesting to see how that page, and AfD/merge talk if that comes up, proceeds. Thanks for the heads up on the 2015 Los Angeles train crash, and for starting the article. I added a little to it, and will certainly come back to it in a little while. I'm still working on Anchorage Fire Department. I'm about 90% happy with it. I want to expand on the History section a little more. I believe it could flow a little better, with more information on the early fire depts which later merged. I had fun writing the Miss Linda section! Rosie I went back to the article tonight. Added a little more background on Metro train crashes. The Blue Line has been particularly deadly. Also, there are no non-copyrighted pics of the crash, (obviously anything on the LA Times or other news websites are subject to full copyright, which is too bad because there are some great ones. I've suggested to another editor, who is very good at writing articles about issues in Asia, that Wikipedia could use an article about this incident: [6] Many killed and injured. I want to give someone else a chance before I jump in. If he doesn't create it, I probably will. I just don't want the style I use when I create an article to become the norm. As I always humbly say, "This isn't Mik-e-pedia :)
There was also a collision between 2 trains in Australia in recent days, but there were no injuries and I doubt that rises to the notability needed for an article. Anyway, I thought this may interest you. Juneau Mike ( talk) 01:12, 31 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi Rosie. Just a word to let you know I've finally started on this with a List of Danish women writers (which of course still needs to be significantly expanded). I'll continue with the other Nordic countries, then see how much time I have left for the rest of Europe. Ultimately there could be a master List of European women writers.

Since WikiProject Women as proposed at the IdeaLab may take some time to realize, and based on a discussion on the proposal's talk page, I have started a test Kaffeeklatsch area for women (cis, lesbian, transgender) only. Well done! Well done We hope too! I think it's about time we did a GA for an LA article, it seems to suffer from a general lack of quality. I think we should aim to get a notable landmark up to GA. Any suggestions? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:50, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
What was that hotel you said about before? Palace Hotel, San Francisco I think would be worth it. How about Pier 39? I really think it's time we had a Californian GA!♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:48, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
No big rush as I have Streep and the Ritz to be getting on with but I think it would be good to have one in mind. Whatever takes your fancy and would be enjoyable of course. I really do think it's time we did an LA one. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:10, 24 January 2015 (UTC)

Hello I am a student at American University and i am in a class about Wikipedia. I am planning on working on the Wikiproject for Women Writers and I was wondering why the assessment page seems to be relatively bare considering how many people are signed up as participants? This may be due to the fact that i am incredibly green when it comes to editing wikipedia pages. 3143628a ( talk) 00:28, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
Hi Rosie. I've been doing some WPWW tagging of stubs in some of the subcats of Category:European writer stubs. I've found quite a few stubs that had no WPWW tag, and others that looked to be bot-tagged with WPWW. Is there a bot that tags new stubs in Category:Writer stubs, Category:Poet stubs, Category:Journalist stubs, etc, on a regular basis? INeverCry 02:51, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
Hi Rosie. My name is Alex and I'm an American University student taking a Wikipedia class. One of my classmates already contacted you, but I ended up being interested in the same project. I am planning to work on several articles using the list of articles needing clean up through the project page. Is this the correct way to go about this? Today after reading about Harper Lee planning to publish a new novel, I added a few sentences to the article. Redondo Loves Wikipedia (2/14), Wik-Ed Women (2/17), and Unforgetting LA at the Getty (2/21)! | |
---|---|
Dear fellow Wikipedian, The LA Wikipedia community has three events in mid-February -- please consider attending! First, we have a Valentine's Day edit-a-thon appropriately named Redondo Loves Wikipedia, which will take place at the Redondo Beach Public Library from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, February 14. Join library staff, the Redondo Beach Historical Society, and others to help improve Wikipedia's coverage of Redondo Beach! Second, we have a Wik-Ed Women editing session on Tuesday, February 17 from 6pm to 10pm at the Los Angeles Contemporary Archive downtown. This series of informal get-togethers is designed to encourage Los Angeles women-in-the-arts (though all are welcome!) to contribute their expertise to Wikipedia, specifically expanding content about women artists. Third, we have an Unforgetting LA event put on by East of Borneo in collaboration with the Getty Research Institute. Come help improve Wikipedia's coverage of LA design and architecture, and have an awesome free day at the museum -- parking will be validated for edit-a-thon participants! If you'd like to use particular books from GRI's great collection, be sure to email before 2/13 (instructions at event page). And be sure to check out our main meetup page, because we already have three SoCal events scheduled for early March! I hope to see you there!

Why would you use such a title that is associated with PUA culture that is clearly misogynistic for a talk about women editors? Is this an attempt to be an attention-grabber?

So cool to hear such nice things from you, Yoninah and Mindy Dirt! It gets clearer and clearer to me that one person can make a difference on Wikipedia; who knew? Please stay in touch!! -- Rosiestep ( talk) 16:30, 1 March 2015 (UTC)
I never knew that Yoninah!♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:58, 1 March 2015 (UTC)
Hi Rosie. User:Ramblersen tells me he is upset that his new article Julie Fagerholt has been deleted at very short notice. He usually produces very good work and I am sure he would not have started this article if it had not been worthwhile. It seems very strange to me that an article about a women should be deleted on the very first day of Women's History Month. Can you look into it?-- Ipigott ( talk) 07:15, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
Hi! Rosiestep
The paper that you and Victuallers have chosen for the presentation at Wikimania 2015 conference is on a very good topic and well written. As desired, I am giving below its equivalent wordings in some of the Indian languages (there are 25 Indian language wikipedias). I have asked some more users from other Indian languages to suggest equivalent wordings. Will let you know more as I get them.-- Nvvchar. 07:46, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

For this month's issue...
Making sense of a lot of data.
Work on our prototype will begin imminently. In the meantime, we have to understand what exactly we're working with. To this end, we generated a list of 71 WikiProjects, based on those brought up on our Stories page and those who had signed up for pilot testing.
As a couple of asides...
That's all for now. Thank you for subscribing! If you have any questions or comments, please share them with us.

There is a link to a SQWIKI that gives more data, but I have been unable to source. Would it be worth it to include that data and mark it as citation needed? On 30 March 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Patrick Fairweather, which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Patrick Fairweather was the first director of the Butrint Foundation, which aims to preserve and conserve Albania's Butrint archaeological site? The DYK project ( nominate) 12:02, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
