Hi, you just edited it.
The accompanying text includes no mention at all of where the template, with its spacing on either side, should not be used—the prime example is in year ranges such as "1990–92" ( WP:MOSDASH). This needs to be displayed prominently; I have had to get rid of this template in many articles in such instances, which are a breach of the styleguide. Are you able to add this point? Just like Elphinstone, Captain Leech was "hypothesizing" about the mysterious origins of the Barakis/Baraks/Urmurs/Burkis based on the narrative probably fed to him by the Barakis/Urmurs. After all, why would most of them trust this feringhee with their "origins," not being able to discern (at face value) what his true intentions might be? This was/is a region characterized by unending warfare and strife, inhabited by xenophobic/self segregating tribes. The "Yemen/Arab" narrative, it can be argued, was an attempt of a "foreign" people to successfully embed/survive, especially after Pir Roshan's (Bayazid Khan)enemies, and orthodox Pushtuns in the north, (Yusufzai, Khattak etc.) regarded him as a heretic due to his "progressive/heretical/revolutionary" ideas. It is rightfully said: "the victors write/disseminate the historical narrative." It can, therefore, be postulated that the Barakis (later "Burki" in the 20th century) were desperate to wipe out any public mention of Pir Roshan's ideas (although many of them privately espoused his views). Thus, their counter narrative to Khushal Khan Khattak's poetic attacks of "Pir Rokhan" (so much for Khattak showing gratitude towards the man -Pir Roshan—who invented Pushtu script which enabled Khattak's prolific writing in Pashto less than a century later!) by some shrewd Barakis/Urmurs (unidentified) to reinvent Bayazid Khan's lineage (and suggesting he was an embed, and not native to the tribe, even though the Baraki have been one of the most reluctant Pushtun tribes to marry outside, let alone a non-Pashtun) as being that of the Ansar! (as in an Ansari from Medina/Yathrib). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 2011khan ( talk • contribs) 09:10, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi, some recent changes you made appear to have broken this template, by emitting 5 mu's at the top of articles using the template. I saw it on at least two articles, but I assume it may be on many more, or all. As a stopgap measure, I have removed the mu section from the template, which seems to have fixed the problem with no drastic side effect. I leave it to you or others to find a more permanent fix. Also I have a request. Can you copy the infoboxes from Spanish wikipedia and add your lovely department infoboxes to Atlántida Department and the rest of the Honduran departments? Meanwhile I'll do the states of Sudan, Sudan is now Done. I've also kitted out the states with new decent maps like Cambodia see Blue Nile (state).. Dr. Blofeld White cat 10:24, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
You mean Spain? Category:Municipalities of Spain? Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:19, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
Well generally it must be said that Spanish municipalities probably need the most TLC on wikipedia for places. Most of them have been neglected like Arrankudiaga. At least the French communes have already had a few rounds of automated edits... German municipalities are also a nightmare in terms of actual content but at least they have infoboxes sorted... Meanwhile I'll sort out Kenyan provinces.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:37, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
Me neither. If the task is too tremendous I get sidetracked. I can ask some AWBers though to insert infoboxes into articles though. At a later date then maybe a bot can be used to copy the coordinates into the infobox and display the pin. That's a start at least. South Africa had empty infoboxes added the other day. I'll ask Rich Farm, see if he can add maps in the South African infoboxes. I believe Rich Farm was the one who copied many of the infoboxes from Dutch wikipedia for the Netherlands too.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:06, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
Oh, can you tweak the size of the pin to 6px like infobox settlement? 8 is too fat. Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:08, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
Nice one. Is there a way you can nestle the WHS infobox inside the protected area template for Ngorongoro Conservation Area? Ideally the lovely photo should go at the top. If you can do the one I can start merging the others. ALmost, the whs box though needs to by the same width as the box and neatly aligned.... Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:19, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
Aren't you going to nominate Template:Alias character for deletion now? Debresser ( talk) 06:46, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
Hi. Seems to me that this template is inappropriate and that we would be better off using Infobox character. I've not looked in detail, but it seems to support generic fields that could be used for the voiced-by param. Before you jump on this, visit User talk:Moonriddengirl/RfC#Concrete issues redux, which is a sort of workshop for a next RfC (or multiple RfCs) concerning the whole issue of colour, and wikiproject-authority. It's also a tad related to the Jack Lord edits I dropped you a note about the other day. This template was brought to my attention by MRG, but there are heaps more, as I expect you know. The url for BC Geographical Names I was using in cite bcgnis went dead. I found the new url and updated the template. I then decided to start a project checking all the feature names used by BCGNIS. At first I had to purge every page. I'm thinking the problem is that since substitution is used the links might remain until all the pages are rebuilt on the server. (No sure about this but it seems plausible.) I have waited a day and most of the links have begun to use the new url. There are still some that are problematic.
I am considering using AWB to replace BCGNIS with cite bcgnis while maintaining a list of all the pages on which it was used so that I can continue my project. I'd like your input on this as I'm a bit reticent after the dust-up over cite cgndb. – droll [chat] 21:26, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
hi, this editor named "Kintetsubuffalo" keeps vandalising/reverting inaccurate information on Lisa Fonssagrives page by adding "American" categories when Fonssagrives has been widely reported as Swedish. Various editors on Fonssagrives' page has tried to revert "Kintetsubuffalo" edits by reverting the categories back to the proper Swedish categories, but he keeps changing Fonssagrives as "American" when she is not. Also, I have left a question on his talk page as to why he keeps reverting the inaccurate American categories on Fonssagrives page but he deletes my question and provides no source on where he is getting information as to how Lisa Fonssagrives is "American". Therefore, i believe that user is vandalising Fonssagrives page and provides no source of information. Could you revert Kintetsubuffalo edit on Fonssagrives page and prevent him from vandalising? Inconsistencies with using geobox for rivers or infobox river, using infobox settlement vs geobox (used in hundreds of Czech articles). I have noticed that Template:Dateheader creates automatic anchors on pages that look like #Year Month Day. This is consistent with Template:Current events header. The problem is that all of the pages that use this template, such as September 2006 in Oceania, have a nice little calendar you can click on to link to these particular sections, which comes from a template such as Template:September 2006 events. These little calendar templates all seem to have their anchor links written as #Day Month Year, so none of the dates link to the appropriate section when you click on them.
I'm not quite sure what the best approach to take to fix this. It would be easy to adjust the Dateheader template so it expects a different order, but this might break any other links that don't come from these little calendars (I don't know how many of these there are, probably very few, I'll try and answer that question tomorrow), and it would be nice to keep Dateheader in alignment with Template:Current events header. The other option is to fix all of those little calendars, which seems like the better solution to me. I think AWB could help, or if something more complex is needed I could perhaps use User:BrokenAnchorBot (this would require a BRFA, but it's closely related to what BrokenAnchorBot does already). There aren't that many, so just fixing them by hand might be the best solution.
Do you have any thoughts on the best way to proceed? I'm no template guru, and I've been looking closely at scores of them tonight...my brain is rather fried right now. Thanks. Winston365 ( talk) 07:02, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
His forkster. I've psent most of the morning creating and uploading 78 new municipal locator maps of Puerto Rico. I'm exhausted now! I was wondering if you would kindly add them to the infoboxes and clean them. I've noticed the paramters are a mess for Puerto Rican municipalities, back to front, backwards, inconsistent parameter dividers etc, besides having the old horrid blank locators like File:Map of Puerto Rico highlighting Moca.svg. Can you clean them and add the new maps, I think they'll look best at 300px given the relative small size of the island to the overall map so you may need to make the photographs 300px to aline. You'll find all of the map are in plain english names without Spanish lettering. Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:39, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
Yeah they are typos, I was reading from a small map. I'll ask Julian Colton if he could do it. Dr. Blofeld White cat 09:24, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
He's absent right now, i've asked Calliopejen to do it. If she is busy I'll do it tomorrow. The commons have such fuddy duddy ways of runnings things. You can't even db-author an image after uploading it there. When you do so you end up being drilled "unlicensed" image warnings. Many thanks for sorting those infoboxes, they look much betteer now, a few thousand sources in total for the set wouldn't go amiss. Most of them should probably be swiped and started from scratch... So I have a number of requests for sorting this out in the next few weeks whenever you have a mo. First of all a bot needs to copy the coordinates from the top and insert them into the infoboxes to feature the maps. Second or first, whatever you find easiest, I need you to draw me up using "what links here" maybe for each department from French wikipedia or using some sort of reader to organize this list of communes by the region and department given in the article to give me an organized list of communes by department. Once that is done I can add them to the nav boxes like Template:Communes of the Agnéby Region and get an AWBer to split the category by region/department and sort them. Once that is done I'll see a bot to display the relative region/department in the infobox. You follow? If possible we can split the workload between you, me and Ser Amantio if he could help out with applying the navboxes/categories at a later date. Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:54, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I need those communes broken down into a list by department of Cote d'Ivoire, organized by region. In every article on French wiki they either have the name of department and region in the infobox or in the beginning of the text. I just need you to be able to read of the text and create a parser list. Then I can begin organizing the nav boxes and at a later date can be sorted by automation. Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:50, 21 July 2010 (UTC) You'll find that most of the article on fr: don't have infoboxes but are all consistently formatted like http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blapleu. I think you could probably read the department and region off of that by article. Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:54, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Hello Plastikspork. Some IP vandalism has recently occurred on the Real World/Road Rules Challenge page. Certain headers/sections keep getting removed, then restored, then removed again, and anonymous users keep inserting random & nonsense subtitles (in the Seasons table) for the upcoming 20th season of The Challenge (i.e. "Battle of the Sexes III", "The Gauntlet IV", "The Battlefield" and "Cut Throat"). We don't know for sure yet what the format of the next challenge will be, so I thought that it's better to just keep it (Season 20) as "TBD", and surrounded by hidden text commands, though it's likely that some idiot will mess that up. In order to curb the vandalism and nonsense edits, I think it would be good idea to semi-protect this page for the next three months. DPH1110 ( talk)

Hi Plastik,
Wikipedia:Malaysian roads and expressways infobox template ( | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
I don't think there's anything wrong with Wikipedia:Malaysian roads and expressways infobox template as such; in some contexts these templates can be useful, e.g. on route diagrams. I'm not saying the implementation as it currently stands is perhaps the best it could be, but I've no objection to there being a bit of colour in an infobox. But in general for accessibility reasons of course, colour/graphics should not be the only way of putting in informaton – this template seems to be OK there though.
But definitely it is named wrongly: it really needs to be in the template namespace, not Wikipiedia namespace, and probably split into two (the doc for the infobox template itself, and that for the list of templates). As discussed for E-toll
, a template listing templates is in any case probably redundant, that's what categories are for. In my view there is a weaker standard for finding templates than for articles generally, because I think we can assume a better familiarity about Wikipedia namespaces etc. by editors than general readers. (That being said, it is often quite a sod to try to guess the template.)
However, if it's just used in the Infobox template, yes, the "subtemplates" which are not subtemplates should probably be moved, such as McDonalds
. I expect with that particular case the intent was to add the golden arches logo; it may be that this can't me done for copyright reasons. (Depends on fair use etc I suppose; McDonald's don't usually seem to mind having their logo splashed everywhere, but Wikipedians probably do.)
I think the consensus on the talk about E-toll
was that it was unnecessary because we shouldn't have graphics in running text, and that E-toll
contraverted usability guidelines.
Your argument about it being easier just to type the link out, and you are not the only one to make this, I have some misgivings with it as a general argument. I have made a few template such as
, for example, which I imagine some people would think excessively long-winded (to write
for example, instead of just a little image and
Austrian Empire). Others have argued that indirecting templates like this serve no useful purpose above redirects (which is not quite true if they include images.) However, the reason for its existence is that in going through the infoboxes of all the battles in the
Hungarian Revolution of 1848 I saw that there was a great deal of inconsistency, and so by indirecting to a template they could be assured of consistency; it also means that if, by consensus, we were to change the display "Austrian Empire" to "Habsburg Empire" for example, it need only be changed in one place: a redirect does not accomplish that because it doesn't change the actual displayed text in the article. However, I do know that other editors feel that this level of indirection obscures things rather, and that templates should not be substitutes for redirects. (At one time there were eighteen redirects with minor variants to
Alfred I, Prince of Windisch-Grätz, and other similar inconsistencies, so I maintain I did right by bundling them all together in one template; even if they are later SUBSTed, it's a stepping-stone to assuring consistency).
A long reply to your short note! Thanks for all your hard work. Si Trew ( talk) 06:17, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

was edited on 20 July 2010. The edit added some functionality that I can't find any documentation for and introduced the use of the templates Latitude and Longitude after those templates were marked as being being considered for deletion. The editor has no edits before 20 July 2010, day the edit was made. All the contributions of this user are to template space and all concern Location map and its various incarnations. I cannot help but suspect sock puppetry. I realize this is a strong accusation but I think it is the only concussion reasonable. The two templates in question are now transcluded by more pages than Location map~ transcludes. I'll try to figure that out before I turn in for the night.
I'm starting this process here because I know that you have considerable experience with templates and because you are an admin. If I should introduce this discussion in a different forum please leave a note here or on my talk page. – droll [chat] 05:42, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

infobox settlement
as a backend. Creating such subtemplates is not necessarily a bad thing, since it could assist with uniformity and standardization while reducing duplication. I'm still not convinced it's necessary. I suppose I could comment at the TFD in question since I can't really close it now that I have voiced an opinion or lack there of.

Hi there, I just noticed that this template has been deleted without even notifying me as creator that it was up for discussion. This was not an exact duplication of Template:WPOCopyright despite their visual similarity. This would have been evident if anyone had bothered top check all the links. Note also that it was not unused. It was transcluded here. They contained different links for Online research in the Guides section. Template:WPC copyright guide linked to a different Guide which was written for the needs of Wikipedia:WikiProject Composers. What's done is done, and I've got round the problem by linking the two different Guides in Template:WPOCopyright, although cumbersome. But I would greatly appreciate it if you would please not delete or propose for deletion Template:WPC online research. This one likewise is especially adapted for WikiProject Composers despite its visual simlarity to Template:WPO online research. Thanks, Voceditenore ( talk) 14:43, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

What's the plan for Infobox Skyscraper? Would it be best to tackle the hotels first maybe? Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:42, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
Yeha its a daunting task I agree. Mmm, First of all perhaps you could copy the desired grey headers from infobox skyscraper into the building infobox. Would it be possible to have a different colour design for hotels. I mean I support merging the infobox hotel but I am particularly fond of the gold on maroon which looks very hotelish if you know what I mean. Also doesn't infobox building not have a standard pushpin map thing doesn't it read map-type or something. That would all need to be changed if this is the case so every infobox building as pushpin_map= rather than map_type. It will require some thought and discussion I think and then some consisderable edits to make the transition as you are undoubtedly acutely aware of, but the infobox building can at least be updated with the grey parameters from infobox skyscraper in the meantime. I believe infobox religous place has a different colour shceme for each building type. Perhapos we could introduce a similar system to prevent it from becoming bland for each building type, like yellow for lighthouses. Whatever you type into the infobox for building type it will display the colour code. What do you think? Template:Infobox lighthouse should probably also be merged. It doeshowever have a lot of parameters which would need to be added to infobox building but simple enough. In terms of long term maintenance I think it would be better to redirect both hotel and lighthouse infoboxes into infobox building but code it so the color system for hotels remains. What do you think? Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:48, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
infobox lighthouse
, but I could be wrong. I don't plan to touch hotel at the moment, but I agree it would seem sensible to merge that one in due course.

There are a few who disapprove of them like Rettatast and pretend there are guidelines WP:FLAG (when in reality they are used in thousands of articles all over wikipedia, in sport, geogrpahy whatever) but I actually think the infoboxes look barer without them, they seem to look more wholesome and complete with flags than without I think. I removed the substitution from BCGNIS (that you added). It seemed to me that there was no way to track which articles transcluded the template since, when a page was rebuilt, BCGNIS was no longer transcluded and the the page was dropped from the category. I also did a serious job on the documentation.
I feel strongly that substituting PAGENAME is a bad idea. At one time I went through hundreds of articles that used this option and found more than a few problems. I will patrol what transcludes the template in the article space and do the substitution using AWB. – droll [chat] 07:11, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi, in recent times, I've noticed re-additions of seemingly useless and counter-productive data in record tables. I'm not sure if all of them can be attributed to you, but I found a recent example in this edit. Obviously, the ref filling helps a lot, but the data below in the record table seems to me to be completely useless as the record table works without it, is easier to understand and without the added data, loads quicker due to the article being smaller in terms of kbs.
Could you perhaps explain to me why these changes are being made, so I can understand a little better? Thanks. Paralympiakos ( talk) 16:44, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Hello, I have a question and am not even sure where best to ask. I thought I'd just ask you since you seem actively interested in the basic topics (coord templates, etc). At least perhaps you could point me to a better place or person to ask. It occurred to me that it would be very useful for WikiProjects such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Rivers to be able to automatically map articles (those with coordinates anyway) by various things like assessment class, "importance", and other parameters. The River template, for example, can contain things like mapneeded=yes, needs-infobox=no, etc. Do you know if it is possible to make maps showing pages by parameter/WikiProject like this? It would be a useful tool for other projects too. If nothing else it would be interesting to see the results--just how US-centric is WIkipedia, etc. I was going to ask at the Help Desk, but figured it might be more productive to ask someone specific who might know or know who to ask, and I thought of you. Thanks! Pfly ( talk) 22:26, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi. If I run Auto Ed across Flash Gordon (serial), oldid it breaks the formatting. In the Synopsis section, there are secondary lines indented with: #: and they get a spaced added, which makes the ':' into part of the prose. I can understand why WP goes on section numbers (in case there are duplicate section titles) so I suppose we have to live with it.
I am sure my comments were most interesting anyway. Si Trew ( talk) 05:22, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

I absolutely agree that unsourced BLP violations are without a doubt something we should avoid like the plague. I did put a comment in the acceptance that I had double checked the figures on the Wilhelmina New York portfolio [5] and [6]. As such, I didn't see it as a violation, just not having an appropriate source, which I have been looking for. If you'd still say that that was a violation, then I apologise, and will be more strict in future. -- WORM MЯOW 06:37, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

We now have a full set of locator maps of Wales and Scotland. See the bottom of Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Scotland. Given that you said parsing the UK place infobox would be difficult I've made a suggestion for both Scotland and Wales to have a seperate infobox to make programming it easier. Other than that I propose a converison to infobox settlement for Scotland and Wales. Dr. Blofeld 13:16, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
Looks incredibly complex. I thought you said is was complicated stuff Mr. Plastikspork? The programming looks relatively straightforward compared to others I've seen. Beyond my templating skills though!! Dr. Blofeld
Aw lighten up. I wasn't certain if you were genuinely bafflied by it or were genuinely too busy to attend to it thats all. I didn't think there was any coding that ever tested you!! Well, I think it is his programming anyway so has a bit of an advantage... Sorry if it seemed like I was "rubbing your face in it" so to speak. Good to see that you've been active. I had to clean up one article because of your modification to the park parameter as the page name was no longer available if the park name was not specified. I fixed it so that the park parameter is now required. I checked all articles that transclude the template. I also edited the documentation. I agree that the default values are generally adequate but I think there is too much the top and bottom padding of rows. I might reintroduce that change. – droll [chat] 20:18, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

Looking for some clarification, but is there any reason in particular to not use a template in another template, such as here? Not that I expect the software to change from using noindex, but if it does at some point in the future, wouldn't it be helpful if it references a template instead of being hardcoded? Hi Plastikspork,
I would like to ask you to deliver Yopie this warning message as an uninvolved administrator:
Extended content
|
---|
The Arbitration Committee has permitted administrators to impose, at their own discretion, sanctions on any editor working on pages broadly related to Eastern Europe if the editor repeatedly or seriously fails to adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, any expected standards of behavior, or any normal editorial process. If you engage in further inappropriate behavior in this area, you may be placed under sanctions including blocks, a revert limitation or an article ban. The committee's full decision can be read at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Digwuren#Final decision. |
The user has been caused me a lot of chagrin by wikihounding and trolling, for which I promised him to be reported at ArbCom and that I am ready to redeem. Of course I am able to prove my assertions by diffs if needed. However, the process requisites a prior warning by an uninvolved administrator and that is why I need your succour. Look, there is a user whose English is very very "puny". While I readily admit that my English is yet far from perfect, it is juttingly obvious that Yopie is unable to fill even a sketch type of vandalism or 3RR report in correct English. I am not telling that his English is absolutely undecipherable but he is unable to make substantial edits to the English Wikipedia. So that it is safe to say that here on English Wikipedia, the only thing that he can be adept at is nothing more than POV-reverting. But that should not be a problem yet in itself, however, he also has a strong penchant for wikihounding and making personal attacks aimed at Hungarian users. And because I am also Hungarian, it is a problem for me, unfortunately. I am often obliged to deplete my supply of 3RR when editing Wikipedia at articles in which he has never ever been interested beforehand because of his perennial wikihounding. And when I am trying to exhort him to stop wikihoundig, the user keeps denying that his acts were wikihounding. By the way, his opinion about Hungarians is outcryingly obnixious and the way in which he conducts towards Hungarians is ghastly spiteful and it glaringly displays both when interacting with Hungarian users and when trying to edit Hungarian related articles or their talk pages with his tarnish English. The user often sends me "vandalism warnings" on my talk page and his presumptuousness is culminated in sending me a warning about non English communication on my talk page.A user whose English is jumbled grammatically, warned me about non English communication. Also, the user twice denounced me on Wikiquette alert because I called his deportment sickly and that I told him that "rv wikistalking. It looks that Yopie needs to be humiliated by a community ban from editing wikipedia for indefinite time" in an edit summary while I was beseted with wikihounding and false vandalism messages by him.Interesting to note that he made a personal attack on me even in his Wikiquette alert-report. The user has more than a year of history of wikihounding by now. Right now I have no time to dredge up the diffs from his editing history, but if you so wish, I will do it tomorrow afternoon.-- Nmate ( talk) 19:23, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

Hello Plastikspork. On The Challenge: Cutthroat page, I was unfortunate to notice that SOMEBODY recently dropped a spoiler in the article, as well as in the Revision History section (it was reverted shortly after). I WILL NOT say here what that spoiler is, and I thought I'd forewarn you that if you DO NOT want to know what that spoiler is, then you may want to shield your eyes (from the right half side of your computer screen) from the Revision history of The Challenge: Cutthroat section for the date of September 18, 2010. Because of this, I recommend semi-protecting the Cutthroat page for a period of three months (which, assuming the season has 10 episodes and a reunion special, will cover the duration of the season) before someone else decides to spoil things again for everyone. I know that it will happen, just like the previous Challenge season (Fresh Meat II). Thank you. DPH1110 ( talk) 05:15, 19 September 2010 (UTC)DPH1110

this list? There are 4000 entries on the list, but only 407 have more than 10 transclusions, 26 over 100. The first one (
WPBannerMeta/collapsed) is similar to Do not delete
in that there are very few true uses (i.e. null edits will be needed). Also,
Pending deletion has no true transclusions at all and can be skipped.
Note: Many of these are userboxes and other things that are not mainly used in the articlespace.

Use Ajdovščina as a guideline. Some of the data was overboard. It would be best following that example than having a seperate infobox....Besides some of the parameters could easily be added to infobox settlement average age, households etc you;d think would be compulsory anyway...
AAArggggh I've encountered a big problem with Category:Populated places in Côte d'Ivoire. They were all sub stubbed even without proper department/region details and see Category:Côte d'Ivoire subdivision templates. The templates are far from complete most are empty like Template:Communes of the Marahoué Region as I found it too difficult to do it manually.

I'll try to figure that out before I turn in for the night.

infobox settlement
as a backend.

Well I'm not too bothered either way, I just thought of it when discussing the color coding thing. I quite liked the yellow infoboxes I saw on Italian wiki. Another thing see Trelew. A lot of the Argentine town articles have these infoboxes. I'm not sure how they work, I gather they work in the same way as geo boxes in that each article will have to be attended to individually? Any reason why you've stopped using flag| ? There are a few who disapprove of them like Rettatast and pretend there are guidelines WP:FLAG (when in reality they are used in thousands of articles all over wikipedia, in sport, geogrpahy whatever) but I actually think the infoboxes look barer without them, they seem to look more wholesome and complete with flags than without I think. The argument against them is that they are decoration I guess. Dr. Blofeld White cat 09:45, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Auto-ed is great, and I've never seen it make a change that wasn't an improvement. Why doesn't it run as a site-wide bot, cleaning up every article, say, weekly? If that is too broad, it could just run through the Wikicheck errors that indicate Auto-Ed. It seems like an obvious solution to a lot of little problems, I'm not sure why it hasn't happened already.

Do you know of any project or other organized effort to improve wiki markup on wikipedia. I seems to me that lack of consistency in template parameter names, even within the same template, is bothering. Why is tag notation used when template notation might be more understandable to new editors. Why is ifempty allowed to stand when if empty is more comprehensible. I keep running across stuff like this. Any thought's. Do you think it would be taken seriously if I started a project named Wikipedia:WikiProject Markup improvement (i.e. would you be interested in such a project if you had the time). – droll [chat] 02:50, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

WE have this though - the simple template used with just pushpin coords is giving the result "Location of XXX in the Ukraine" when it should be "Location of XXX in Ukraine".

Hi. If I run Auto Ed across Flash Gordon (serial), oldid it breaks the formatting. In the Synopsis section, there are secondary lines indented with: #: and they get a spaced added, which makes the ':' into part of the prose. I've seen other sorts of formatting that it's not handling properly, too, such as the same with '*'. The mix of these can actually get quite complex. Any chance this is an easy enough fix, at least the common forms? Cheers, Jack Merridew 21:16, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
Hi. I'd be interested in comments concerning how a template arg might be parsed into two chunks; typically some data and then a ref are being passed as a piece and it's resulting in poor rendering due to a unit being glued onto the end.

Hi,
Aside from a few minor parameter naming differences, and one other issue, Infobox person, with no extra parameters of its own and is thus redundant. Would you like to make the latter call the former; redirect and add the different spellings to Infobox person
; or shall I raise the matter at TfD?
The one oddity is the way the actor iBox handles URLs. I presume there's a way round this? Perhaps a bot-job to clean up the various parameter names in use, and facilitate use of Url would be best? Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 20:38, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for removing that edit conflict at WP:TFD. I,m not sure why I didn't notice myself, I guess I just checked the edit had been accepted and looked OK without checking what was above it. Yeah, with the section number editing, I've seen the same problem at T:TDYK – it's probably more common there as that page gets edited more. Hi Plastikspork,
I would like to ask you to deliver Yopie this warning message as an uninvolved administrator:

Hi, I'm just wondering what the purpose of Category:Biography using undocumented parameters is and whether or not it is still required. Regards. PC78 ( talk) 11:14, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
Hi. As you recently commented in the straw poll regarding the ongoing usage and trial of Pending changes, this is to notify you that there is an interim straw poll with regard to keeping the tool switched on or switching it off while improvements are worked on and due for release on November 9, 2010. This new poll is only in regard to this issue and sets no precedent for any future usage. Your input on this issue is greatly appreciated. Off2riorob ( talk) 23:44, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
When you are done doing
Do not delete, can you run the bot through all of the entries on
