Hi there Fetchcomms,
The article Alex Day suddenly has a 'proposal to delete' notice at the top. It was placed there by User: 1BettingDisk at 14:17 on 5 May 2010.
The interesting thing is that this user account was created only minutes before, at 13:24 on 5 May 2010. It would appear that the user account was created for the sole purpose of getting this one article deleted.
I am all the more suspicious because I received, on YouTube, a message from someone called HandyScholar, who was asking questions about how I managed to write such a "comprehensive" article. I looked here on Wikipedia and found an account for someone named User: HandyScholar. Interestingly, the only activity for this account was to go, 5 minutes after creating the user account, and vote to delete an article about Chartjackers - a group of which Alex Day was a member.
Now we see a similar pattern of behavior towards this article. I'm very suspicious of the motives.
I suspect this is a form of vandalism. I wonder if you, or I, could delete this proposal for deletion. And is there any way to protect the article from this sort of thing?
I was going to just delete the proposed deletion tag and explain why, but I thought it might be wiser to first consult someone who's been around these parts a little longer than I've been.
Thanks for your help.
Wmoran9550 ( talk) 16:05, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
Well, moments after I posted the above note, User: Jayron32 removed the proposal for deletion on his own initiative. I guess that takes care of that problem. But I would still like to see some follow-up on this. Maybe you could advise me on that.
For the reasons I noted above, I suspect that User: 1BettingDisk and User: HandyScholar may actually be the same person, and that he or she may have a personal grudge against Alex Day.
One additional fact tends toward that same conclusion. The "issues" raised in the proposal for deletion are addressed extensively on the article's discussion page. And yet, this User: 1BettingDisk did not see fit to make any comment or contribution to that discussion.
If this user is carrying out a personal vendetta of some sort, I wonder whether their account should be closed. Of course, they can always create a new account, or simply vandalize the article without signing in at all. But it seems to me that something should be done.
Thanks again.

Thank you.

I just undid most of a recent edit to the Alex Day by 92.0.127.9 This edit consisted mostly of the addition of derogatory "information" about Trock, supported by dead links or no references at all. I left in one assertion supported by a link to a magazine not online, as I am unable to verify that assertion myself. It may or may not be true. I can't tell. But I am wondering if this 92.0.127.9 is the same person as our User: 1BettingDisk and User: HandyScholar. Maybe we should just log this information and save it for possible later use. Please advise if you think I should do anything more, or undo anything I've done. Thanks.

Once again, thank you so much. Wmoran9550 ( talk) 17:49, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Fetchcomms - The current submission of "McClure Arctic Expedition" is primarily a chronological narrative of the facts documented of this voyage. The sections near the bottom (Aftermath and Controversy, Contrasts with Franklin), are merely highlighting documented facts or primary-source opinions in hope of flavoring the legacy of the expedition. Several of McClure's decisions were criticized afterwards, and his escape from over 4 years on the ice bears comparison to Franklin's unfortunate fate.
That said, I will be happy to make any revisions that you suggest in order to present an appropriately toned article.
Thank you for your consideration.
Greetings, I submitted a post on Phillip Mills a couple of weeks ago, which was rejected on the grounds it contained text from an existing website www.lesmills.com. Actually, I am a communications specialist with Les Mills International and that text was generated by our department. If there is any implied copywright on that text, it surely belongs to us. How can we progress this post? cheers g

Hi Fetchcomms - I noticed that you reviewed my proposed NARI article and I was wondering if you could give me additional insight as to why it was declined. I'm very new to this, and I hope it's not the end of the road for my article. I truly believe NARI deserves a presence in Wikipedia but I want to make sure it is done right. I greatly appreciate any help/advice/guidance you could give to me to make this happen. <phone redacted> Thank you!
Thank you for your message. I am obviously new to the photo uploading requirements for Wikipedia. I contacted Mr. Thompson's office subsequent to your message. His office gave to me permission to use the photo in question stating that Mr. Thompson was the owner of the picture and the copyright holder. Apparently, they use the picture for the majority of his press. How should I describe the picture to satisfy Wikipedia's requirements? Please advise.
Thank you.
Hi Fetchcomms. I declined the speedy deletion tag you placed on File:Shivaji-riding.jpg. Please remember that the {{ db-f7}} tag should only be used when a file bears an inappropriate license tag or inappropriate fair-use rationale claim (e.g. A photograph of a school mascot out in a field claimed to be a non-free logo). For files that violate WP:NFCC, please consider using the {{ subst:dnfcc}} tag instead. Thanks, FASTILYsock (TALK) 03:26, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

The article List of Gynecologic Oncology Group publications has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{
dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your
edit summary or on
the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{
dated prod}}
will stop the
proposed deletion process, but other
deletion processes exist. The
speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and
articles for deletion allows discussion to reach
consensus for deletion. —

How references workSimple referencesThese require two parts;
Chzz is 98 years old.<ref> "The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009. </ref> He likes tea. <ref> [http://www.nicecupofteaandasitdown.com Tea website] </ref>
== References == {{reflist}} (an existing article is likely to already have one of these sections) To see the result of that, please look at user:chzz/demo/simpleref. Edit it, and check the code; perhaps make a test page of your own, such as user:Fetchcomms/reftest and try it out. Named referencesChzz was born in 1837, <ref name="MyBook"> "The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009. </ref> in Footown.<ref name="MyBook"/> Note that the second usage has a / (and no closing ref tag). This needs a reference section as above; please see user:chzz/demo/namedref to see the result. Citation templatesYou can put anything you like between <ref> and </ref>, but using citation templates makes for a neat, consistent look; Chzz has 37 Olympic medals. <ref> {{Citation | last = Smith | first = John | title = Olympic medal winners of the 20th century | publication-date = 2001 | publisher = [[Cambridge University Press]] | page = 125 | isbn = 0-521-37169-4 }} </ref> Please see user:chzz/demo/citeref to see the result. For more help and tips on that subject, see user:chzz/help/refs. |

The author of Mutual Recognition of States ( | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) probably needs someone to teach them how to make tables. The whole article, consisting of pretty much a single table, is approx. 220 kb, which can take some time to load. I myself am not versed in the table making ways, so I was hoping you, (who I found randomly through Recent Changes of the Wikipedia namespace) could help them out. The author is User:Orthorhombic. Just to let you know, the Wikipedia volunteers never responded to my email providing the permission I was granted to use the images you flagged. I left all of the verbiage on my talk page so you can refresh. It will be gone from there in the next day or so to clean it up, and the images in question are gradually being eaten by the delete bot. I found a way to re-write the article without them, but thought I'd at least mention it was a total time sink. Going to send out another round of requests to get better images put in place, and will make sure it meets the policy that's been set to avoid wasting my time and that of the volunteers who actually keep on top of things. Why are non-approved justifications still in the drop down on the upload form? Semi-rhetorical, but seemed like it was worth asking. Thanks. Wallanon ( talk) 03:16, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for reviewing my article submission. The current determination as a result of the review has been to put this article on Hold. The stated reason is that there should be a band page prior to the transferral of the album article to "live" status. I have been working on a band page, however, that article has been more time consuming, and I completed the album page first. I anticipate completion of the band article this weekend (see my user talk page 3 Chicanery band page(draft) for status), and submission of that article for review to Articles for Creation early next week. With knowledge that a band article is in the making for submission within the next week, can we release this article to go "live" now? If not, I will likely have to perform a file retrieval of the album cover image since the orphaned file period may expire. Again, thank you for a speedy review, especially since there was a backlog of article candidates requiring review. I have left a message on the submitted article page, and I have gone to live chat, also, however, noone was available. Doc2234 ( talk) 14:10, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

I have the layout all mapped out. each item is placed where I would like it to be. All items have their "width values" in the items description as you can see on This Page, you will need to open you browser to full view then the layout will be shown as I planned. All the items ( inserts ) I would like on my page and they correspond to the layout on the other page are here Inserts. the "height" of each should be relative to the item type and it's position on the page. The Image of Myself, I would like it set at 300px a the rest of the page built off and around that size, matching somewhat in size and position to that. Nothing should overlap outside the background field, ( be it green or blue ). The Nave-plate might be best outside the frame and obviously at the top. And I'm leaning towards navplate #2 with frame/background #2. Mlpearc pull my chain Trib's 01:34, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

I'm not sure what the proper procedure is for this. When the Alex Day article was first published, User:Cptmurdok came along and tagged it for three problems: notability, recentism, and external reference deviations. I fixed the external reference problem right away, and I think the recentism problem has been dealt with by now. The case against notability was never very strong, and I think a fair reading of the article, with its 64 footnotes, shows the notability of the subject. Moreover, I've dealt extensively with the notability issue on the article's discussion page, Talk:Alex_Day, where I went so far as to construct a Notability Matrix, showing that the subject satisfies half a dozen different Wikipedia notability criteria. No one has added anything to the discussion to rebut that analysis. In short, I think it's time to remove those tags. But I don't know who has the authority to do that. I contacted User:Cptmurdok about this a couple weeks ago, and I haven't gotten any reply from him at all. You strike me as a fair and competent editor. I wonder if you could take a look at the article and the discussion, and if you agree that the issues have been dealt with, could you remove the tags? Thanks.

Sasata (
submissions), who has 570 points. He leads pool C. Pools A, B and D are led by
Hunter Kahn (
submissions),
Sturmvogel_66 (
submissions) and
White Shadows (
submissions) respectively. Anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at
Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the

Two of last year's final 8,
Theleftorium (
submissions) and
Scorpion0422 (
submissions), have dropped out of the competition, saying they would rather their place went to someone who will have more time on their hands than them next round. On a related note, a special thank you goes to
White Shadows (
submissions) for his help behind the scenes once again. There is currently a problem with the poster, perhaps caused by the new skin- take a look at
this discussion and see if you can help. The competition has continued to tick over well with minimal need for judge intervention, so thank you to everyone making that possible. Good luck to all! You're right, Hummie Mann nomination was premature as CSD but the original page was nothing more than a first stab at the article with links and little else. There was no evidence it was going to be properly expanded.

Hi Fetchcomms, You are obviously a brilliant and highly skilled editor, active with over 20 thousand contribs. Would you consider letting me nominate you for adminship?
To GB fan, Fetchcomms, Chzz and Captain-n00dle
I'd like some feedback on a thought I have to address most of the remaining items in Category:Requests to move a userspace draft. I could be bold and just do it, but I'd like some reaction from some of the more experienced contributors to Requests for feedback.
As background, I stumbled across the Category about three weeks ago. It contained 242 requests, some going back to November. (This discovery is what prompted me to work on a proposal for a Feedback Patrol.) I've been working on cleaning out the backlog, and have it under 75 at the moment. The good news is that over 170 have been addressed, either by moving when appropriate, or a message to the editor when substantial work is needed prior to a move. The bad news is that I worked on the list with a triage mentality, moving the ones that were in good shape, sending a notice to the ones that were in very bad shape, and passing on ones where I wasn't quite sure how to respond, so the ones left are a little trickier than the ones I've processed.
In many cases, the ones left have some promise, but need some attention regarding notability and other issues. However, in many cases, the request is quite dated. If the editors last edit is a few months old, I don't see it as a good use of resources to spend time assessing notability if the editor is no longer interested in contributing. (Obviously, if you read the draft and want to work on it personally, you can and should, but in many cases, if the original editor isn't going to help, there's not much point in working on it.)
My suggestion is to pick a cutoff date, say one month, and if there have been no edits within the last month, send a note to the editor and ask if they are still interested. (Anything more recent should be addressed on an individual basis.)
Sample message:
You asked that userspace draft be moved into article space. We apologize for the extreme delay in responding to this request. We believe there are some issues that need to be addressed before moving this draft, however, we would like to make sure you are still interested in working on this before we review it in detail. In the mean time, we will remove the {{move draft}} request. Please respond if you want the review completed, either by replacing the {{move draft}} template, by posting a note at my talk page, or by posting a request at Requests for feedback.

Thanks very much to all who helped with the
Guild of Copy Editors
Backlog Elimination Drive. We were very close to meeting our target of 7,500 articles remaining in the backlog. Our most shining success is the incredible reduction in the backlog of Special Requests. That part of the project saw a drop from 62 articles in the queue, some dating back to February of 2009, down to a stunning THREE, all of which were being edited at the close of the drive. The Special Requests page will now be a great resource for people looking to tidy up their article in advance of a GA or FA nomination, instead of a place where articles go to die.
Moving forward ![]() The drive has not only forced a great leap forward in reducing the backlog. It has helped promote the Guild, and led to a greater awareness of the level of vigilance required to keep the backlog manageable. Ideas such as charts, graphs, and barnstars helped motivate editors, and meeting other users helped quell any feelings gnomish editors may have had in the past that they were toiling all alone. Keep up the good work people!! Stats

Thanks.

The article List of Gynecologic Oncology Group publications has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{
dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your
edit summary or on
the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{
dated prod}}
will stop the
proposed deletion process, but other
deletion processes exist. The
speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and
articles for deletion allows discussion to reach
consensus for deletion. —

How references workSimple referencesThese require two parts;

I was looking at how you got that cool editnotice that showed up on all your subpages (it didn't work on mine) and realized that you created a group notice. Since you're an accountcreator, you can modify these notices and I was wondering if you could create Template:Editnotices/Group/User:Mono for me with the following content:

Hope I ain't wasting my time. Anyway a corrupt mod got my old accounts banned over nothing and now he won't stop leaving sockpuppets tags on everything he thinks is me. Please stop feeding them. The mod I refer to is called Michael. I cannot pronounce the second half of his name. 202.93.213.34 ( talk) 01:50, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks.

I was a little worried about doing it myself, because it might look like I was "asserting ownership" or whatever the Wiki sin is called. But I think what I'll do then is just add a note to the discussion page about why I'm removing the tags, and say pretty much what I said in the above note to you. Thanks for your help. Hello,
I belive you reviewed my article OnlySeethat was in the Articles For Creation page yesterday, and placed its inspection on hold. I thank you for doing this and not just immediatly dismissing it. I am contacting you here on your Talk Page since I am relatively new to Wikipedia and am unsure of any other way to respond to your comments. Now, I have made some tweaks to the article and removed what I belive was the unreputable link that you had mentioned. I did leave the one other reference, for, since it is a page hosted by the National Library of Australia, I belived it was a reputable and trust-worthy source. Now, if there is ANYTHING else that I can reasonably do to make the article more "post-worthy," please let me know as soon as possible. Thank you so much for your time, patience, and help.

I see you removed that I had applied for FA for this article. About a month ago I did submit the article for FA consideration, but did something wrong (surprise!!) and SandyGeorgia intervened. After looking at the article she removed it from the FA submission page and suggested I ask AWickert for help. A couple of days ago, I finally did ask him to review one section of the article, which he did. Now I'm in the process of absorbing AND implementing his suggestions. It will be a while before I resubmit a new-and-improved article. With your question mark I assumed you weren't sure what was happening. Bettymnz4 ( talk) 22:53, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

We are half way through round 3, with a little under a month to go. The current overall leader is
Sasata (

Hunter Kahn (
submissions),
Sturmvogel_66 (
submissions) and
White Shadows (
submissions) respectively. Anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at
Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the
WikiCup talk page.

Stats

The progress on MacBook Air has ground to a halt; your referencing changes would be done except that I cannot find your revision. If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{

to the top of
the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on
the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. —
