I am writing regarding the January 13 removal of the article related to the Gordon J. Laing Award. This article listed all the winners of an award that has been given to members of the University of Chicago faculty since 1963 for a publication published by the University of Chicago Press. The reason give for the removal is that this "Appears to be a non-notable award. No significant coverage outside the University of Chicago and the University of Chicago Press."
I am writing to request that this article be re-instated and to make a case for this award being notable enough to be of interest to Wikipedia users.
The University of Chicago Press is one of the world's most prestigious publishers. Since its founding in 1892, the Press has published many of the most important academic works and authors and its reputation for excellence is known throughout the world. The editorial decision-making process at the Press is extremely rigorous and results in the publication of only the best books in each subject. We apply these editorial standards to the books written by the faculty at the University of Chicago in the same way we do for books written by the faculty of other universities. In other words, being published by the University of Chicago Press is often one of the most notable events in a scholar's career. The Gordon J. Laing Award is given to the faculty author whose publication has brought the most distinction to the Press. The award is bestowed by the Board of University Publications, one of the governing boards of the University of Chicago. All titles published in rolling two-year periods are considered for the award. The Board members read the books, the reviews, and any other material in order to make their decision. The winner receives a cash award from the Press and is the guest of honor at a reception hosted by the President of the University. This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the prize.
While all of this sounds very "internal", I can say that the recipients consider this award to be a high honor as it comes from such a prestigious press and the competition in any one year is significant. If you search for the Gordon J. Laing Award in Wikipedia, many of the recipients list the award in their biographical sketches as one of the notable achievements in their careers. As of now, mention of the award in these articles results in a red highlight and an indication that this is not a notable award. This has been brought to my attention by several people outside of the university.
I would appreciate a reconsideration of this deletion. Since I am the Director of the Press, I understand if you think me and this description to be biased, but I have had the pleasure of contacting each year's winner and I know how honored they are to receive this award from this Press and University. If you would like to hear from some of the notable scholars who have received this award, I would be happy to arrange this.
Thank you for your consideration. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gkiely ( talk • contribs) 20:08, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

I am a new user here so forgive any lack of knowledge. A page on a Romanian Bukovinian artist, Dumitru Rusu. I love this artist's work, primarily as my ancestors came form this area and he does such a good job of depicting the area. From one of his two websites:
"Born on November 6, 1938, in the picturesque region of Romania called Bukovina, Dumitru Rusu’s childhood was imbued with artistic influences from the centuries old painted churches and monasteries for which Bukovina is known. After graduating from the High School of Art in Iassy, followed by the Institute of Art in Cluj, he returns to the land of his childhood. Through his work he tries to capture the beauty and spiritual wealth of his region (people, historical monuments, folk architecture and customs). Beginning with 1966, he has been ever present in exhibits in Romania and abroad. Around 16 exhibits in Suceava, Bukovina with graphics, oil paintings, orthodox icons on wood and glass, and metal embossing. His work is in private and state collections in Romania as well as in private collections in the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Holland, Canada, etc. An art critic recently said of him “Dumitru Rusu is an artist who paints with his soul, leaving us at the same time paintings attesting to the marvelous beauty of the lands of Northern Moldavia - Bukovina” Coming into contact with the art of Dumitru Rusu is indeed a celebration, a unique moment for lovers of true art."
Why would you delete this article? It seems benign, the artist's works are offered by galleries and hung at Romanian state art museums, and his work is simply wonderful. Granted, not much on the Internet but that is not the standard, is it?

Hi Explicit,
This is Sue, from CUCAS (China’s University and College Admission System). I am writing on “Deletion of page CUCAS” on Wikipedia in September 2011. According to the related information, we guess you maybe have some misunderstanding on us. CUCAS is an official organization providing application services across a range of subject areas and modes of study for China's universities and colleges. We aim to help international students make informed choices about higher education in China, guiding them through the application process. CUCAS is an online platform authorized by China’s universities to directly receive international applications to study in China. We have established cooperative relationship with more than 200 universities and colleges, although they may not mention our corporative relationship on their website or supply link to our site, we have obtained certificates of authentication from them. In addition, although some universities has established their own application system, offering application forms and publicizing some related information, lots of international students are still not satisfied with them, because mostly the information on university’s webpage is not updated in time and students could not get more help from them. We can help them in a better way by offering special fast application channel, latest application as well as extra services including following up application results, booking accommodation and airport pick-up service. The fact proved that we have exerted a deep influence on international students who want to study in China, both the students and universities are satisfied with our service and help. We need to publicize our organization and let more students know about our service in order to further and better help the students who want to study in China. So it is very important for us to making use of the platform of WIKIPEDIA and list CUCAS (China’s University and College Admission System) on it. Based on the above-mentioned explanation and our actual demand, we earnestly need to know what kind of information and content can be accepted in order to keep our CUCAS (China’s University and College Admission System) article on WIKIPEDIA. I am looking forward to your early reply ASAP. Sincerely yours, Sue — Preceding unsigned comment added by 123.114.50.52 ( talk) 08:49, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
Hello sir,
I have written an article regarding a company (Clariter S.A).
The article was submitted to wikipedia and was rejected due to supposed violation of copyrights and commercial content, and I was asked to fix it and resubmit.
Since my computer has crashed, I did not get the chance to work on the correction the admin has asked me to do.
Today, as I entered my sandbox in order to work on the changes i discovered it was deleted.
I have no other record of my work and thus cannot make the appropriate changes to the article and resubmit it.
It is noted that the the Admin that deleted my Sandbox content was you, and I want to ask you for the reason and whether you could restore my content so I could conduct the required changes in order for the article to be qualified.
Thank you for your time.

Hi,
I just saw the page of "Injustice (film)" deleted by you. I am not sure what the page was, previously, so I thought if you could provide me with a copy of it. I wanted to create a page regarding a documentary which has been aired in the past few years and has been subject to some reliable publicity. I have seen the reason for deletion that it lacks notability, so I just wanted to take your permission before moving forward. I have found some credible sources which I think may establish notability but I will leave you and other fellow Wikipedians to be the judge of that. Looking forward to your response.

at the options under the WAIT thing above, went to my Choice #1, (deleted a media file) looked around and came back here. This is about the deletion of File:Matt Gordon, Flying Tiger c. 1943.jpg, which I believe, had on the page the fact, or at least opinion that as the picture was probably taken in China in about 1942 and the Chinese copyright reach expires after 50 years, it should be okay. Terrible deletions, not entirely with consensus in mind. If 2:1 is consensus, one of the images should not have been deleted by you. 'Cause it was a 3:2 "consensus" to delete. Not a consensus at all - should have been kept as "no consensus" to delete. Great job. Doc talk 02:45, 10 February 2013 (UTC)
The argument on that one image from the one editor who isn't fiercely camped on one side or the other should have made most admins pause on consensus to delete. But you deleted it because of my frustration at the bullshit politics at NFCC? I didn't upload either image. I pity those that do upload non-free images. If you think violating 10c was a more persuasive argument to delete than the massive pixelization, that's cool. I just may make an example of FA images over this. We'll see. Cheers... Hello, you deleted the article Azerbaijani Students and Alumni International Forum due to Promotional article on a non-notable entity. The article is not promotional, there are lots of articles with similar content and objectives and they still exist without any problem. First of all, I don't agree that it was promotional article. Second it is not right to call this organization "non-notable" entity. The article was well-referenced and Google search shows that it is indeed notable entity with notable activities. May be it was not an ideal article, it might need some improvements, but it doesn't give right to delete it. Therefore please return the article to Wikipedia. Thanks in advance. Hello Explicit,
My name is Gretchen German, and you recently deleted my Wikipedia page. I'm an actress, who hasn't done much work over the last 10 years, but at one time had a decent career. You list the reason for the deletion as "German's career appears to consist of solely of extra/walk-on roles". While my mediocre career certainly doesn't merit an extensive article, I have never done an extra/walk-on role in my life. Here is my IMDB page - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0314525/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1
If you feel the need to remove my Wiki page, please be respectful enough to get the reasoning right.

Can you please restore Steve Rogers (basketball)? On December 10, 2012, you deleted it because of an expired PROD, citing "concern was: Notability. No sign of his ever playing a pro game."). Whoever was the one that placed the PROD was out of line for doing so (actually, can you please tell me who it was so that I can drop a note on their page about PRODding basketball players in the future?): firstly, Steve Rogers passes WP:NBASKETBALL for having been drafted within the first two rounds of an NBA Draft; secondly, he was a two-time SWAC Player of the Year (being a Division I conference player of the year is the highest individual conference honor a player can get and qualifies as notable per WP:NCOLLATH); thirdly, the rationale for the PROD was faulty to begin with – hundreds of players who are notable have never once played a professional game, it's not the only criterion used for determining notability. At the absolute very minimum, this article should have been taken to a full AfD. The College Basketball, NBA, and/or Basketball WikiProjects should have been notified of this as well. I think it's pretty clear that this article should exist. If for some reason you don't want to do it on mainspace, please put it in User:Jrcla2/Steve Rogers (basketball) so that I can work on it before re-creating it. Thank you. Toby Irvine seems to have been recreated, despite the PROD/etc [1]. Regard merits or not, would be able to do a histmerge so that at least the metadata is all in one place. — Sladen ( talk) 11:24, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

Hello! The image File:United 777 Dubai Intl Terminal 1.jpg you deleted on 24 Jan 2013 had an OTRS email received on 16 Jan 2013 whose ticket number is 2013011610015081.

Hi sir, Something worth mentioning, I am an employee of the above mentioned company, responsible for the website and therefore there is no copyright violation since the creation of the Wikipedia article is in my area of responsibility as well as approved by the company. Could the copyrights issue be settled in that way? What if I provide a certificate by the company stating that I have the right to publish it's information over wikipedia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Barphilosof ( talk • contribs) 09:09, 6 February 2013 (UTC)

We are unsure as to why the page was taken down and would appreciate it if you could re-publish the content that was previously on the page. Please contact me with any questions and when this has been completed. rebecca.collier@nasm.org

Hi,
I just saw the page of "Injustice (film)" deleted by you.

Oh well. Einar aka Carptrash ( talk) 02:06, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

On 17 January you deleted the page called 'Guo Jun.' The reason given was 'Unsourced BLP.' I was asked by Venerable Guo Jun to update his wiki page last year. While I didn't create the original page, I did make major changes based on his online biography [1]. It was an oversight due to ignorance. I would be most grateful if you would restore the page so that I may add the reference..

Best, 195.212.29.185 ( talk) 12:38, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
Thank you,

I was just wondering why the image of Sen. Justin Alfond was deleted. It was his official state government photo which I thought was noted in the file's page(might be wrong, though). A lot of people worked pretty hard on that page, as she's a rather popular author in the middle-aged and older SF reading set. This page discussed the characteristics of the subjects of the books and stories. Please restore and send it to my Talk page so we can find the references, and/or fold it in expanded form into the existing Zenna Henderson page. She seems notable enough, if you bother to read that page. Regards and thanks in advance, Thardman22 ( talk) 23:44, 20 February 2013 (UTC)
A file you deleted following Wikipedia:Possibly_unfree_files/2012_December_29#File:MartiequNYC14.jpg has been put at DRV here by an IP who looks not to have informed you. I have commented there. Although I think your close was procedurally correct I also think the nomination was wrong, though not opposed at the time. I'm wondering now whether I should have endorsed your close but said the image should be undeleted rather than saying "overturn". Anyway, I expect you understand my dilemma. Best wishes. Thank you.
