Hey! I've done a major redesign of The Wikipedia Library portal. As one of our original volunteers, I'd love you to check it out, pick a role, create a profile to share your story and skills, sign up for the newsletter, and see how you can get involved. I'd also be interested in having a skype chat with you in the next few weeks to see how we can best put your energy to use (or email if that's better for you). Hope you're doing well, Ocaasi t | c 13:23, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
I'm going to send you an email after i post this.
You can look at my edit history, of course; while there are ebbs and flows, I have sent a reasonable number of wikilove and welcome messages, i think. But when someone starts to creep up to the line of "just posting resumes from people at the same institution" whether they are explicitly PR or not, that gets my dander up, especially in medicine where I have worked in some capacity, and intend to end up. There is plenty of literature out there, with which I am reasonably familiar, about the corrosive influence of conflicts-of-interest on the practice of medicine; i think the same can be said of WP, that CoIs are a corrosive influence. I have already seen plenty of egregious and obvious marketing behavior in this domain, and the more of those types of edit there are, the more aggressive we need to be in nipping it in the bud, just from a time-efficiency and limited-number-of-editors standpoint.
I also have made some guesses and independently researched this particular situation, and feel confident in saying that my initial hunch was probably correct, but i will say no more about it, for obvious reasons. you can either trust me on this or not, as you will. -- [ UseTheCommandLine ~/ talk ]# ▄ 04:15, 29 August 2013 (UTC)

Dear Jim, Thank you very much for your comments. This was my first attempt at Wikipedia. it appears that it will be more difficult than I thought. I suspect that other Internet sites, such as Google scholar, Figshare, Mendeley will be a complicated. I believe a biography of Andre Gratia already exists. However, a parallel description of his life and Fleming's life, and why one did not and the other did receive the Nobel prize, does not exist. Thinking... This is so complicated. Thank you. Hi Cullen,
I am about to talk about a sensitive issue and am not much experienced so will make a few mistakes please pardon them. Do you know about the download speeds in Cuba, I mean I saw an user who wants to listen to music but can't so I will get the music for the editor, mail it to you and then you can mail them to her. Going through the users talk page I noticed there are some restrictions therefore not mentioning the name of the editor. This editors morale is a bit low and I want to contribute at least a bit from my part. I am not asking the editor directly as it might make the editor uncomfortable while answering it. Sorry its been a while - I finally have what I think is sufficient sources/back up for you to create the Wiki pages for Electrocoin and Bar - X.
I cannot find the last correspondence in which I think you provided an email to send across the PDF'S of the articles, so if you can do this again that would be much appreciated. I may set up a drop box or something similar so I can upload as many documents as possible, so please let me know what is best.
I'm not use to the Wiki system, so if we can be in contact via email or even telephone this would be a lot easier - so If you can provide either or both, again it would be appreciated. As agreed I will make donations towards Wiki and your charity of choice, so if you let me know how many hours you have worked on the two wiki pages, I will gladly provide the equivalent of $8-10 per hour. Just let me know if you are ok with this or if you prefer an alternative.
Kind regards
New Update - I have created a Drop Box account with all the documents - Please let me know how we can move forward.
Many Thanks

That's a valid point. It's a small enough experiment and a small enough field that it's hard to find totally independent papers--usually if someone's interested in doing a paper involving our machine, they get involved with us first, and then they're not really independent anymore. I'll hunt around and see if there's some really independent work that I just haven't been exposed to. I know we've done work to inform projects on bigger experiments, but I suspect most of that has happened through the senior faculty showing our results to people they know who make decisions on bigger machines--and I get the feeling that's how a lot of work gets done in plasma physics.

Hey Cullen328. I'm dropping you a note to let you know (or remind you) about Flow, the structured discussion system for Wikipedia that we're building. You may have heard about some of the longer-term vision for Flow in the past, but in the last two months we've been moving quickly to narrow down the short-term scope of the project, and we're keen to get feedback.
First: we've written up an explanation of the " minimum viable product" – the set of features that will be in the first, on-wiki deployment. Because discussions on Wikipedia are complex and varied, we're approaching Flow development as an incremental process of uncovering user needs for different types of discussion. The first release will be limited to a few WikiProject talkpages only, with the goal of testing out our first stab at peer-to-peer discussion functionality and improving it based on feedback from the WikiProject members who use it. If you've got any thoughts on the MVP, or on the philosophy we're trying to follow with this software, let us know on the Flow talkpage. If you know of a WikiProject that might be interested in testing this out, let Maryana know on her talkpage :)
Second: we're having a set of discussions around some experimental features we'll be trying in the first release. These include indenting and nesting of comments and comment editing. If you've got any practical thoughts on these, we'd appreciate hearing them. For background and feedback on the design, there are the ongoing set of design iteration notes, a Design FAQ, and a page for design feedback.
The software prototype is still in early development, and changing daily in small ways, with major goals updating every 2 weeks. If you've got comments about other bits of the software, we'll be holding an
IRC office hours session in #wikimedia-office at
18:00 UTC on 17 November to talk about Flow as a whole, and fielding questions on the talkpage before and after then.
Third: this is a pre-newsletter announcement of a new WP:Flow/Newsletter signup page! If you'd like further updates, details, and requests for input, please add your name there.
Thanks, Quiddity (WMF) ( talk) 19:49, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
Jim, I'm sure you can tell I'm new to Wikipedia. Thanks for the feedback on the Fidelity & Guaranty Life page. We want solid factual, information about our company to appear if people search for us, but not to market our product. Do you have any good examples of companies you can point me to that have approached this goal the right way?
One specific question: Our attorneys (and regulators) always want us to be very, very specific about the legal entity writing insurance. For instance, standard required disclosure on all materials from our company that reach the public require language like this: "Fidelity & Guaranty Life is the marketing name for Fidelity & Guaranty Life Insurance Company issuing insurance in the United States outside of New York and, in New York only, Fidelity & Guaranty Life Insurance Company of New York. Each Fidelity & Guaranty Life company is solely responsible for its contractual commitments." We hate it, but get required to put it somewhere. Does this type of verbiage trip the "marketing language" wire within Wikipedia guidelines?
Thanks in advance, Paul Pauldtyler ( talk) 15:52, 24 September 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, Jim. Learning. I put in COI declaration. I'm really only trying to get facts and numbers up to date. Insurance stats are complicated. Unless you suggest otherwise, I'll take another pass with your comments in mind later this week. Paul Pauldtyler ( talk) 20:38, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

I was about to give you a barnstar for your always thoughtful answers at the Teahouse including this one but Luke said everything I wanted to say so how about a double rainbow instead? -- NeilN talk to me 03:33, 18 September 2013 (UTC)
Thank you very much, NeilN. I try. By the way, two of my Facebook friends have posted photos of double rainbows in recent days, so, we've got some synchronicity going on. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 03:39, 18 September 2013 (UTC)
Hi Cullen, I was just about to return to editing the Platypus page that had been saved under your subdomain to be refurbished, only to find that it is no longer there. Do you know what happened to it and why? -- thanks. Eulerianpath ( talk) 21:45, 16 September 2013 (UTC)
Have you been receiving my emails lately? Miss Bono [hello, hello!] 15:05, 18 September 2013 (UTC)
Majorfun ( talk) 16:02, 19 September 2013 (UTC) Apparently, I was over-eager in adding and correcting the text on my Wikipedia entry about, well, me - Bernie DeKoven -
I've attempted to fix all the errors noted by Thibbs, but the flag still waves. And, frankly, it's a bit embarrassing. I learned my lesson. I've mea culpa-ed with abject humility and stuff.
I was hoping that you could take a quick look at my page and, if things seem OK to you, remove the flag (it makes me embarrassed just to refer anyone to it), or tell me what else I need to do to make it flag-removal-worthy.
Hello Jim!
Thanks for that Cullen, missed it. Just a new article, impending rating on project scale, 2 DYK's. Boat loads of pressure. Just reminder your talk page needs archiving, tedious task to scroll down. Sohambanerjee1998 07:44, 22 September 2013 (UTC)

For your helpfulness and gobs of clue at the Teahouse, where lately you're almost a one man show, not to mention your all around awesomeness.-- Fuhghettaboutit ( talk) 12:46, 23 September 2013 (UTC) |
I totally agree with Fugh... you rock :D! Miss Bono [hello, hello!] 12:53, 23 September 2013 (UTC)
First, I have finished the translation of Chapter 30, I will post it you know where, for you to make the corrections, if you don't mind :D. Second, I am full of ladyfingers, hehehe I bought 10 and ate them... :P. Third, I need (if possible) a peer review for Zooropa (song) it needs copyedit and some more info about composition for FA :D
Thanks for your comments! I appreciate you rearranging the article. Also thanks for the to the referencing page, I find it hard to locate good information on the nitty gritty of making an article....I think its just me, but I keep ending up at "your first article" which gives such a basic review its not very helpful after you have read it once or twice. Again..Thanks! GMarin 12:29, 25 September 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lrh246 ( talk • contribs)

Have fun on your trip! I hope you enjoy the sights more than you take time out for Wikipedia. Binksternet ( talk) 14:27, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
It would be very helpful to hear from you about now -- we so very close to putting this to rest. EEng ( talk) 20:08, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

Thank you so much for your suggestion. I will pursue it. Lightbreather ( talk) 04:30, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

Yay! You're back. We missed you. I've never felt jet-lagged before - must be because I've never taken a plane to fly to the other side of the world.
Jim, I pulled a series of links from articles that best explain recent company events. I think the formatting is current. I posted them to the talk page of Fidelity & Guaranty Life. Can you tell me if these are acceptable? Thanks, Paul. Pauldtyler ( talk) 13:56, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
Jim, I went ahead and tried to find and insert references for a large percentage of the statements on the page. When you have a moment, can you take a look and let me know if this reflects your suggestions? Thanks in advance, Paul Pauldtyler ( talk) 02:52, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited A Thousand Times Good Night, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Kabu ( check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hello Jim, I am very sorry to write back so late, as you left a note on my page back in March. Since then, I haven't learnt much more about how to edit Wikipedia (lack of time, mostly), but if you are still interested in participating, let me know. We have a list of names that still must be added to the site and accompanying autobiographical articles by these women that could help create stubs, at the very least. I am not quite sure how to share these over Wikipedia, but I have asked a friend to help me figure it out. Let me know! Rascouet ( talk) 15:53, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
