Hi,
I am EMsmile, and I am a part of a group of people wishing to improve SDG-related articles on Wikipedia. We are organising this online SDG edit-a-thon during Global Goals Week, 18-26 September 2020. Please take part in it! If you have any questions about this work, please feel free to ask your question on the event's talk page here. The event page itself is here.

Hello, please slow down and make sure your image captions make sense. The majority of captions you have recently added have titles like "Artificial intelligence (33661764490)". The full file name does not need to be the caption. A more appropriate caption would be simply "Artificial intelligence", or something more descriptive. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks, Jessicapierce ( talk) 23:46, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
Hello, I'm

A tag has been placed on Akarere ka Rubavu requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://irembo-star.e-monsite.com/pages/ikiyaga-cya-kivu.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Sangwa Job Training Center has been deleted
Hello, Cnyirahabihirwe123. Thank you for helping to build Wikipedia-- the world's largest
free content encyclopedia.
Sangwa Job Training Center has been deleted as meeting
WP:CSD#G11, as it was seen as unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. This article needs to be rewritten from scratch from
reliable, third party sources unconnected to the subject.
Information on content and common pitfalls to avoid can be located here and here, however be aware that this is not an exhaustive list. Pages can sometimes avoid these pitfalls and still be seen as an ad copy or unambiguously promotional, particularly if the editor appears to be a paid editor or has some other conflict of interest. Please review these policies, including the FAQ page on organizations to determine if this applies to you.
Common mistakes or beliefs about promotional editing center on the assumption that promotional editing only applies to promotion for commercial gain. Some tags or G11 nominations are met with confusion by creators, particularly if they spend much time reading or creating corporate documents, mission/vision statements, or similar copy for their organization. The frequent exposure to promotional tone may make it difficult to notice non-neutral phrases or styles, as the editor has grown accustomed to seeing it as everyday writing or speech. This can be difficult, but not impossible, to unlearn.
Another common assumption is that the prohibition against promotional editing applies only to businesses or organizations. Anything can be promoted, including a person, a non-commercial organization, a point of view, etc. and CV/resumé's are by their nature promotional.
Wikipedia is an encyclopedia-- subjects must meet notability guidelines with reliable sources that are unconnected with the subject and providing verifiable information. That generally means someone unconnected with the subject needs to have written a great deal about the subject. Please see this page on citing sources. This page has templates you can use in citing your sources. Place the template {{references}} at the bottom of the page, and references cited in the text will appear there. The WP:TEAHOUSE and the new user tutorial can assist with any questions and avoiding these pitfalls. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 10:57, 1 October 2020 (UTC)

I got my things and left Film has been deleted
Hello, Cnyirahabihirwe123. Thank you for helping to build Wikipedia, the world's largest free content enycloppedia.. I'm sorry, but I got my things and left Film has been deleted as meeting WP:CSD#G12. Wikipedia is the world's largest free content encyclopedia. As such, it cannot contain content copyrighted elsewhere. Such content must be removed immediately and completely rewritten and reformatted from scratch. Content published elsewhere copied into Wikipedia must state that it is public domain, licensed under the GFDL, or a creative commons license that allows commercial reuse. That's the simple version. WP:copyright is a vastly complex issue, but if you keep to what I've written you are unlikely to run afoul.
Wikipedia cannot accept material copied from elsewhere, unless it explicitly and verifiably has been released to the world under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license or into the public domain and is written in an acceptable tone—this includes material that you own the copyright to. You should attribute content to outside sources, using citations, but copying and pasting or closely paraphrasing sources is not acceptable.
Content copied and pasted from a subject's web page is generally unhelpful. It is generally written in a promotional tone and is not independent of the subject. All content must be cited from reliable sources that are unconnected with the subject and have a reputation for fact checking. Cheers, and happy editing.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Uburanga bw'umugore. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Feminine beauty ideal. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Feminine beauty ideal. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.
If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Pikavoom ( talk) 09:25, 3 October 2020 (UTC)

Cnyirahabihirwe123, you are not being asked to memorize all of Wikipedia's rules, just show a basic understanding of copyright and how it applies to Wikipedia editing. The policy page is located at

Dear
Diannaa,
Here are my responses:
Cnyirahabihirwe123 ( block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser ( log))
Request reason:
1) What is copyright? It is an exclusive right that an author has on a work that has been created being a book, music, poem etc for a limited period of time in a way that none can modify or delete parts of it without the permission of the author. 2) How is Wikipedia licenced: Wikipedia content is licensed under a Creative Commons license (CC-BY-SA)-Attribution-Share Alike which allows the user to adapt and remix the content but share it under the same CC license. 3) Why is copyrighted content not allowed on Wikipedia : Because Wikipedia is licensed under CC-BY-SA and the copyrighted materials carry strict restrictions that do not allow anyone to use them, so using a copyrighted material is considered as an infringement which can also make Wikipedia to be sued in the courts due to their usage. 4) Under what circumstances can we use copyrighted content? - Copyrighted can be used under the fair use context. - It can also be used if the material is under a compatible licence. This is explained here: /info/en/?search=Wikipedia:FAQ/Copyright#Can_I_add_something_to_Wikipedia_that_I_got_from_somewhere_else? Compatible licences include: • CC BY, all versions and ports, up to and including 4.0 • CC BY-SA 1.0, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0 • CC0 The licence type is usually indicated on the bottom of a website (under “About”) or at the start or at the end of a publication. Sometimes it is not clear. Then I have to ask the authors. 5) How do you intend to avoid violating the copyright policy in the future? -I will paraphrase sentence that I wish to include from elsewhere because it is better to express information or ideas from other sources in my own words in a similar number of words as the source text. As I know that paraphrasing, is not simply replacing words with synonyms or rearranging the structure of sentences. Hence, It involves rephrasing a text substantially while retaining the original meaning. - I will paraphrase and provide sources by acknowledging the original source with proper referencing. - I will collect information from different resources, - I won’t copy whole sentences or even paragraphs across from another publication or website - I won't include anything in Wikipedia that hasn't been already written elsewhere. This means I won't add original research (as per: /info/en/?search=Wikipedia:No_original_research) and also I won't add my own opinions or my own personal knowledge". - I won’t add content to Wikipedia which I think that doing so may be a copyright violation. - I Won’t include anything in Wikipedia that hasn't been already written elsewhere. Unless it's something completely plain and obvious. - I won’t add my own personal opinions, knowledge etc. - unless this information has been published somewhere already and then I can cite it. Blog posts count as a reference, so do newspaper articles, or opinion pieces. See here what constitutes a “reliable source”: /info/en/?search=Wikipedia:Reliable_sources - I will initially focus my efforts more on improving existing pages rather than creating new ones. If creating new ones, I will set them up in my sandbox first and then ask my mentor (User:EMSmile) to give me feedback. I plan to create a new article on "Sustainable Development Goals and Rwanda". My mentor will guide me. Cnyirahabihirwe123 ( talk) 09:25, 17 October 2020 (UTC)

Hello Cnyirahabihirwe123. Your definition of copyright is incorrect and incomplete. — Diannaa ( talk) 11:25, 17 October 2020 (UTC)
{{ Hello Diannaa, Here is the response of the first question:
Copyright definition:
- Copyright is a type of intellectual property that gives its owner the exclusive right to make copies of a creative work, usually for a limited time. The creative work may be in a literary, artistic, educational, or musical form.
- Copyright is intended to protect the original expression of an idea in the form of a creative work, but not the idea itself.
- Copyright is subject to limitations based on public interest considerations, such as the fair use doctrine in the United States.
- It does not protect an original idea but rather it protects it in form of a creative work that has been created.
- It is also limited when it comes to subjects that are related to the public interests or in the public domain and in some cases copyrighted materials can be used in case of a fair use. Cnyirahabihirwe123 ( talk) 18:47, 17 October 2020 (UTC)}}
"ohh noo, you are right, I did it again! I Can not believe it. I just realized that I should have provided the sources of the two websites where I got the information from. I will not have done it if it was a Wikipedia article contrary to a response of a question on my talk page. Here, I try to explain it again in my own words: Copyright is an intellectual property (IP) right. This meant to protect the idea's expression of the person. The knowledge or facts of the text of someone are not protected, those things and that content can be restated or written again as it is done by Wikipedians. But content from sites cannot usually be copied and pasted into Wikipedia unless in the rare situation that they are licenced by freely. Cnyirahabihirwe123 ( talk) 12:27, 18 October 2020 (UTC)

Hello, I wanted to give you more context as to why I removed your recent addition to Huye District. There is some useful content there, and thank you for including sources. However, your addition contained a huge number of errors. I understand that English is not your native language (and I commend you for editing the English-language Wikipedia). However, you're asking other editors to do far too much cleanup for you. Is it possible to have your mentor, or another editor, check your work before submitting it?
Briefly, here are some of the major issues I noticed in this submission
I mention these things not to discourage you, but just to emphasize that your contributions need assistance. Please ask your mentor for help, please slow down, and please learn more about Wikipedia before adding anything further. You are welcome here, but you need to be willing to work within the guidelines. Thank you Jessicapierce ( talk) 15:00, 18 October 2020 (UTC)

I have removed some copyright material copied from elsewhere online from your sandbox. Please have a look at what I removed. Here's how to find out whether or not a webpage is copyright: Scroll to the bottom and look for a copyright notice. For example, https://sdgs.un.org/goals has a link at the bottom that says "Copyright". Clicking on that link brings up this webpage, which says that the material cannot be copied without permission. The page also has a link labelled "Terms of Use" and that page tells us in different words that it's not okay to copy anything from their website.— Diannaa ( talk) 12:26, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.
All United Nations Member States in 2015, approved the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the World, now and into the future. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are at its centre, which are priorities to call for action by all countries in the world: developed and developing. They realize that ending poverty and other deprivations must be in harmony with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and stimulate economic growth at the same time as addressing climate change and working on the protection of oceans and forests around the world.
Hi Diannaa: She might as well give up now! It is not so easy as you make it sound. If I was her, I would by now be shit scared to do anything on Wikipedia at all. :-( Anyhow, if she wants to write about the SDGs, how about she utilises websites that are using an open access licence? Like this one: https://sdg-tracker.org/about . If I read it right, it's completely open access. Or this website, which is also under an open access licence: https://www.globalgoals.org/ . If she copied sentences from there (even without paraphrasing but with attribution), she would be completely on the safe side, right? EMsmile ( talk) 14:57, 23 October 2020 (UTC)

Hello Cnyirahabihirwe123,
Thanks for adding links and pics to Climate change in Turkey. There are probably enough pics now. If you have time maybe you could add more text also. There may be useful info at https://www.iklimhaber.org/kategori/climate-news/ or https://ipc.sabanciuniv.edu/en/climate-change-60749600 or https://unfccc.int/documents/199646 which you could cite. Don't forget to write (summarize) in your own words not cut and paste, but don't worry if English is not your native language as I will copyedit the article later anyway.

With #WPWP #WPWPRW, you have been adding photographs of/from French villages to our articles: I appreciate that, but in all the examples I looked at you simply used the file name for the caption, and that cannot be. Captions need to be relevant, and of course they need to be in English. I understand what's happening here; this is a contest, and you want to win, and adding images is good, but adding such captions is not. As you should know by now, you can't just copy stuff. If you rewrite the captions you are welcome to restore them. Drmies ( talk) 13:09, 25 August 2023 (UTC)

Dear Wikimedians for Sustainable Development,
As we bid farewell to 2023, we reflect on a year that has been an uneven year for our user group. While the journey has been marked by some truly inspiring events, most of our efforts have been largely uncoordinated and the user group hasn't been the support it could have been. Yet, there's a glimmer of hope and a world of potential for 2024.
Highlights of 2023:
Acknowledging Challenges:
While we celebrate these achievements, we acknowledge that 2023 presented its fair share of challenges. A lack of global coordination reminded us that the road to sustainable development is not always linear. However, it is precisely these challenges that fuel our determination to work together more cohesively in the coming year and proof that the user group is needed.
Hopeful Anticipation for 2024:
As we turn the page to 2024, let's carry forward the lessons learned and the successes celebrated. We are optimistic that, with renewed energy and a collective commitment, we will overcome obstacles and create an even more impactful and connected Wikimedians for Sustainable Development community.
Here's to a year of collaboration, growth, and making a lasting impact on the world through our shared passion for sustainability. Together, we can turn challenges into opportunities and pave the way for a brighter future.
Wishing you all a joyous holiday season and a Happy New Year!
Warm regards, User:Ainali, User:Daniel Mietchen
PS. We have started writing our yearly report, please add your activities to it.

Dear
Diannaa,
Here are my responses:

- It is also limited when it comes to subjects that are related to the public interests or in the public domain and in some cases copyrighted materials can be used in case of a fair use. Cnyirahabihirwe123 ( talk) 18:47, 17 October 2020 (UTC)}}

Regards

Hello, Cnyirahabihirwe123
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged ISABELLE UZAMUKUNDA for deletion, because it seems to be inappropriate for a variety of reasons. For more details please see the notice on the article.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

A tag has been placed on Wiki Vibrance international Youth Day in Rwanda 2022, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. 2A01:4C8:64:7ECA:792E:436A:4DF0:3781 ( talk) 13:49, 16 December 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for your work here. However, could you move this to projectspace or userspace instead of creating it in mainspace, which is inappropriate as this topic is completely non-notable and advert-like? Thanks. VickKiang (talk) 08:12, 18 December 2022 (UTC)
