The Tholsel

I have written a page on the The Tholsel, Dublin which contained the Tholsel court and performed various other legal and quasi judicial functions at times in medieval Dublin and during the middle ages and I thought you might want to take a look or add something. The page is only of moderate quality at the moment if even. No worries if you don't want to or can't. Financefactz ( talk) 20:03, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

Hello

Hi Chrisdoyleorwell! As you've noticed, I was doing a bit of copy-editing on John Osborne (barrister), and I'm happy to collaborate with you on this article. If any of my edits change the meaning of anything, feel free to discuss them with me. I believe there were a couple of ambiguous sentences where that might have happened along the way. Happy editing! RandomGnome ( talk) 19:38, 7 February 2021 (UTC)

Thanks Happy to collaborate Chrisdoyleorwell ( talk) 19:48, 7 February 2021 (UTC)

That's great. Incidentally, 'unacceptable' was absolutely the word I was looking for but failed to find, so kudos for that. I wasn't particularly happy with 'disagreeable', and 'obnoxious' seemed a little too biased/emotional. Cheers. RandomGnome ( talk) 20:21, 7 February 2021 (UTC)

Sir Henry Tichborne

Sir Henry Tichborne is largely based on the 1884-1900 DNB. This is a problem, because the DNB article (as a product of high Victorian England) glorifies his role in the English conquest and colonization of Ireland. I have "no dog in this fight" -- I am neither Irish nor English, neither Catholic nor Protestant -- but it seems to me that the article could be reframed considerably to conform to WP:NPOV by using more modern and more Irish sources; I have made a few small edits in that direction. The same is no doubt true of many other articles about Ireland, but I'm afraid I'm not really the one to do that.... -- Macrakis ( talk) 15:49, 10 March 2021 (UTC)

As I have said I am happy to add further and possibly more balanced sources Chrisdoyleorwell ( talk) 15:54, 10 March 2021 (UTC)

You might take a look, for example, at the article about him in the current Oxford Dictionary of National Biography (2004). -- Macrakis ( talk) 15:56, 10 March 2021 (UTC)

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. Thanks! Dear Chrisdoyleorwell. I am worried I might have been too bold by implementing the change of citation style without having your approval. You are clearly the foremost contributor to the article. Nicholas Cusack moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Nicholas Cusack, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. ( ?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed ( verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Notice

The article Helen Butler, Countess of Ossory has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The subject of this biographical article may not be notable. The lead says that she was a daughter of a viscount, married an earl, and lived in a castle. None of these facts establish notability. The article is sourced to Lodge (1789) but the mention is trivial.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Johannes Schade ( talk) 07:18, 26 August 2022 (UTC)

Johannes Schade, as you say, facts such as living in castles are beside the point of WP:N, although only a handful of facts do establish notability on their own. As Chrisdoyleorwell may know, to bring the page back he would need to find “significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject”. Marrying an earl and living in a castle do not do the trick, but they do give a lady a better chance that such coverage exists! Moonraker ( talk) 22:09, 10 September 2022 (UTC)

Sir William Moore Johnson

I see that you initiated the Moore Johnson article - you therefore may (or may not!) be interested in the fact that on the island of Hydra in Greece I have several photographic portraits of Sir William Moore Johnson and of his his wife and various original documents such as the original huge document , illustrated and with Queen Victoria's seal, appointing him as Attorney general of Ireland in the "forty-fifth year" of her reign in 12th November 1881 and illustrated coloured scroll of the Grant of Arms and baronetcy in 1909 by Edward VII with seal and in original leather embossed box...as well as some small amount of Moore Johnson;s correspondence. The Moore Johnson's had no issue and left everything to their favourite niece who was my grandmother Arabella (Lady) Seeds - she left all her papers to my father Robert and so they came to be in my possession here...I brought many boxes of papers and photographs when i moved here from London in 1988. The boxes came by sea and then on mules... Corinna seeds ( talk) 20:30, 14 January 2023 (UTC)

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Glencree, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Hello, I know you are doing this in good faith but I don't think it is encyclopedic. It appears that you are here for months, so maybe take a review of WP:MOS in case you are not aware of this. Sheep ( talkhe/him) 14:53, 21 February 2023 (UTC)

Invitation

Hello Chrisdoyleorwell!

  • The New Pages Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles needing review. We could use a few extra hands to help.
  • We think that someone with your activity and experience is very likely to meet the guidelines for granting.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time, but it requires a strong understanding of Wikipedia’s CSD policy and notability guidelines.
  • Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision, and feel free to post on the project talk page with questions.
  • If patrolling new pages is something you'd be willing to help out with, please consider applying here.

Thank you for your consideration. We hope to see you around!

Thanks! An article you recently created, Nicholas Cusack, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. ( ?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed ( verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia).

(Commenting on this page to preserve sequence). Would you consider making one or more of the photographic portraits available so that it/they could be added to his article? Alekksandr ( talk) 20:44, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Sheep ( talkhe/him) 14:51, 21 February 2023 (UTC)

Hello, I know you are doing this in good faith but I don't think it is encyclopedic. It appears that you are here for months, so maybe take a review of WP:MOS in case you are not aware of this. Sheep ( talkhe/him) 14:53, 21 February 2023 (UTC)
