I notice that this category you created is unpopulated (empty). In other words, no Wikipedia pages belong to it. If it remains unpopulated for four days, it may be deleted, without discussion, in accordance with Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#C1. I'm notifying you in case you wish to (re-)populate it by adding [[Category:Economy of Izmir]] to articles/categories that belong in it.
I blanked the category page. This will not, in itself, cause the category to be deleted. It serves to document (in the page history) that the category was empty at the time of blanking and also to alert other watchers that the category is in jeopardy. You are welcome to revert the blanking if you wish. However, doing so will not prevent deletion if the category remains empty.
If you created the category in error, or it is no longer needed, you can speed up the deletion process by tagging it with {{ db-author}}.

Hi. You seem to have introduced significant content pasted from this source to the article École Normale de Musique de Paris in April 2005. [ Archives confirm that this material was published there before it was published here. The article will need to be revised or deleted unless we are able to verify permission from the copyright holder in accordance with policy at Wikipedia:C#Using copyrighted work from others or unless it can otherwise be demonstrated that for some reason this text is free for use. This was obviously quite some time ago, so I don't doubt that you are aware at this point that contributors may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences or phrases, unless those external sites are public domain or licensed compatibly with GFDL, or unless the use of non-free material from those sites conforms to our non-free content guidelines. The article is listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2009 March 5 and will be revisited on or about March 12th. I have watchlisted your talk page as well as the article in question in case you would like to discuss the matter. Thanks. -- Moonriddengirl (talk) 00:30, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for beginning the process of cleaning École Normale de Musique de Paris. There are a few passages in your temporary version that remain too close to the original source. For example, the source says, "Its concert hall, the Salle Cortot, is an "Art Deco" masterpiece designed by the architect Auguste Perret...." Your revised article says, "Its concert hall, an " Art Deco" masterpiece designed by the architect Auguste Perret...." The creative use of language there is owned by the copyright holder. We can't reproduce it without his or her permission unless we do it in accordance with our non-free content guidelines for text: with quotation marks and attribution. So we could say:
According to the school's official site, the concert hall which was designed for the school by architect Auguste Perret is "an Art Deco masterpiece."(citation)
Alternatively, we could say:
Renowned architect Auguste Perret designed the concert hall for the school in the Art Deco style.
But we can't use their language or their point of view without specifically noting that we have done so.
Also in need of further revision is the passage that reads "institution’s world wide reputation for the high quality of its music education". The source says "the institution has enjoyed a world-wide reputation for the quality of its music instruction". Your revision of this text to add "high" and change "instruction" to "education" is insufficient to eradicate copyright concerns. (In addition, the text is not neutral and, since it is drawn from the school's own website, not reliable. They are grading their own performance, which is not permitted under our policies.)
When creating a usable paraphrase of an external source, it's a good idea to read it over completely, put it aside, and then write a summary in your own language. Comparison of the two may sometimes show that you have inadvertently followed too closely, but it's less likely to be a problem than if you're trying to revise sentence by sentence. Sometimes sentences are especially hard to revise; I usually try to imagine how such a sentence could be turned around. But not exactly as you did here:
Among many other celebrities graduated from the institution are well-known concertists and composers as Dinu Lipatti, Samson François and Igor Markevitch.
The source says
It also trained a number of well known concertists and composers. Dinu Lipatti, Samson François, Igor Markevitch...among many other celebrities studied in the Belle Epoque architectural environment of this Parisian temple of classical music.
(I've bolded the duplicated runs of text to make the problem more apparent.) A usable paraphrase of that might be:
Prominent graduates from the school have included Dinu Lipatti, Samson François and Igor Markevitch.
The names are not copyrightable, the fact that they graduated from the school is not copyrightable, but the language used to describe them is.
I imagine that most Wikipedians who have contributed extensive text have on one or two occasions inadvertently followed too closely to an original source. Although Wikipedia does not encourage " fair use" claims for text, since our purpose is to allow the material to be modified and freely reprinted, even commercially, such accidents, if minimal, are not likely to be a problem. If close paraphrasing is noted in a phrase or sentence, it can simply be revised or removed. A real problem arises when there is a pattern within articles or across articles. For example, the article I noted above, Raymond Charles Père, is not a straightforward copyright infringement as with the school article, where the entire thing is copied from another source, but it is still a copyright concern under US law. I have a more expanded explanation of why on my user page at User:Moonriddengirl#Basic copyright policy overview, where there are also some links to US law and to documents explaining in more detail. We also have a user essay which addresses it at Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing, and the matter is briefly discussed in our FAQ at Wikipedia:FAQ/Copyright#Can I add something to Wikipedia that I got from somewhere else?.
Given the state of Raymond Charles Père, I believe that we may need to evaluate some of your other contributions, to be sure that these do not inadvertently infringe on copyrighted sources by close paraphrasing. -- Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:34, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi Cee Gee!. I don't want to touch Category:Cities in Turkey but I was wondering what you would think of new additional categories linking cities, towns and villages together by province e.g
Category:Cities, towns and villages in Afyonkarahisar Province. This follows the convention with other sub categories on wikipedia on settlements. At present there is a great deal of inconsistency and many towns aren't categorised in a settlement category etc or are combined with districts etc. What would you say to a reorder of the towns and villages by province. This of course won't affect the main cities category although they can also have the provincial category added to them. What do you think? Something needs to be done towards splitting, I will be willing to create these categories and working towards ordering by province. I won't touch Category:Cities in Turkey but I can add additional provincial categories to them to organise newly by province. What do you think?
Dr. Blofeld
White cat 13:23, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
So for example Akkoy would be recategorised as Category:Cities, towns and villages in İzmir Province, linking all settlements within a given area. The main problem is that hundreds of existing articles which are merged on towns and districts have no settlement category like Çeltikçi so people broswing through the main towns category won't find them. If organised by province then they will all be categorised. Dr. Blofeld White cat 13:26, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
Hi yes settlements seems to make sense in practice but I believe the reason why all of the categories are listed as Cities, towns and villages is to stop people create separate categories for villages etc. This way it asserts that this category should include them all. You;d think Settlements would be used all across wikipedia but the convention seems to be cities and towns so I guess we run with that for now. I just didn't want to start adding any categories and then face opposition from the active members of Wp:Turkey. It should be OK at the end and will tie a lot more together. I won't recategorize Cities in Turkey though I'll just add an extra provincial cat for those. Been a while since I went to Turkey myself. It really is scorching hot in the summer! Regards. Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:17, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Will you support my arguement for the deletion of the Category:Anti-Armenianism that I put forward on May 1, 2009?
It is very subjective and even racist as it puts every person who questions the Armenian genocide, such as prominent academicians, who are not racist or personally against Armenian people or Armenia as an entity, along with assasins and militants.

I see you have created this category, and sub Category:Port cities of the Sea of Marmara, and sub Category:Sea of Marmara port cities and towns in Turkey. I'm a bit confused by 3 categories for 3 almost identical things - would it be a big problem if they were all collapsed into a single category? Mhockey ( talk) 20:23, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
I have collapsed Category:Sea of Marmara port cities and towns in Turkey into Category:Port cities of the Sea of Marmara, but left the rest - there seems to be a wider issue of Category:Ports and harbours and Category:Port cities which have got confused and need sorting out. Hello! In common English usage, the name precedes the designation. The only exceptions I know of are US Navy bases, where the formal form is in the opposite order. But even there, the former form is still very common, e.g. Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, and other branches use it as well, e.g. the USAF bases. IMO, for the Turkish Navy, where we are dealing with a translation, the formalities of USN nomenclature are irrelevant. As such, we should use the most widespread form, i.e. name and then designation. BTW, very nice articles. Cheers, Constantine ✍ 22:13, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Unfortunately I know no Turkish (or Greek) whatever; I surfed to the unsourced article on Ara Güler from the uninteresting article on the Turkophile Nikos Economopoulos; either page would benefit from the attention of somebody who's interested and reads Turkish. -- Hoary ( talk) 00:25, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
Well, um, here as almost always I see no need for a biographical infobox; but that niggle aside, very good work -- thank you!
I guess that in your early days here, you, like me, didn't worry much about specifying sources. (I tended to think that anyone interested would know.) The need to surce everything really is a bore.
Somebody, perhaps you, has written in the article: his most renowned photographs remain those melancholic black and white pictures taken mostly with a Leica camera in Istanbul mainly in the 1950s and 1960s, golden age of photojournalism. Less as an editor here and more as somebody who enjoys looking at photographs and is willing to order stuff through abebooks.com etc, I wonder if you have a particular recommendation among Ara Güler's books. -- Hoary ( talk) 00:23, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
Thank you. My problem is that bookstores where I live stock few if any photobooks by people who neither are published in Japan nor happen to be favored by one or other of the handful of big companies that seem to gradually monopolizing the international market. (Thus for example even though Chris Steele-Perkins is a member of Magnum, his most recent books are published by Northumbria (University) Press and don't appear here.) Turkish books? The ever-polite shop assistants would refrain from laughing at the request, but they'd have a laugh over it when the customer was out of earshot. So I have to order via the internet and it's a matter of guesswork. (More often than not, I guess well.) I see in the OPAC of the best library hereabouts that the library has something it calls Ara Guler'e sayg== Hommage an Ara Guler=tribute to Ara Guler 1. Aufl (libraries here have no patience with diacritics) so I'll take a look at that. -- Hoary ( talk) 01:41, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your work there! I tried copying some of the Turkish names from other articles on Wikipedia, but my eyes (uneducated in Turkish alphabet) didn't even detect that it wasn't an "i" in Sarısözen. :) -- Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:52, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
I have registered that several dates when the Speakers left office does not correspond with the dates mentioned on Rulers.org. Several acting speakers have also been omitted. I guess that your source is the website of the National Assembly of Turkey. Which source is correct? I would like to know!

Regards.
Thank you

Hi

Hello. This edit of yours to Ara Güler was (and remains) very impressive, but how did (do) you know all this stuff?
