Hi Casliber. You're an experienced Wikipedian and a frequent FAC contributor. Please review my contributions to Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Peterborough. I want to know if you think I'm being too harsh, particularly ref WP:CITE. I recognise that the article writer has a point when he refers me to CITE, but I worry because the sources are inaccessible, it's impossible for a reader to ascertain what material in the paragraph is sourced and what isn't, which becomes even more of a problem as the article endures future edits. Furthermore, surely FA is about the highest possible standards? Give it to me straight. Many thanks. -- Dweller 12:49, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. I think the odd prose is because some of the article was in its early days directly lifted from a defunct encyclopedia and some oddities have perpetuated. I'm speculating, but seems a good guess. Thanks for input. -- Dweller 08:27, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

I can't imagine what it must be like doing genealogy there. I believe some churches kept good records that survived the communists, but never tried researching myself. I'm making some headway on Vampire - I get so busy reading all the books I have borrowed on them (They're really interesting!) that I often don't have time to write it all down. A vicious cycle... Okay, now that all your FAs are out of the way, I thought now would be a great time to begin our collaboration. Since you're keen to write Werewolf, how about this... I keep on writing Vampire, you start doing up Werewolf and then when we're done, we work on both together. As you'd said, there's no other article on Wikipedia like Vampire etc, so we're pretty much free to create our own MOS and in regard to the article. Besides, I'm feeling insecure watching you go out making the best FAs I've ever seen whilst I'm still waddling around with Vampire. God Dammit! I'll bring you down to my level if I have to!! ;) Anyway, I'm keen to begin our collab - Also, I'm moving unsourced stuff which I don't have a cite for to the Vampire talk page - After you're done doing stuff on werewolf, you could possibly see if you have anything that covers those texts. Cheers Cas, Spawn Man 05:10, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

I have no freakin' idea where to start and your help would be greatly appreciated - as it is I'm struggling to get Vampire finished before I have to give the books back (Who knew books could only be granted for 3 weeks at some places!?), so I really can't afford to have this start. Since we're a team, would you be able to give me some hint as to what I'm supposed to do. If you do, I'll be forever in debt - I really can't be bothered making another FAC for Kertesz and frankly, I'll lose interest. Cheers Cas, Spawn Man 07:01, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Greetings Casliber, we had previously briefly discussed the issue of searching article history to discover when certain pieces of text were added. You had mentioned your efforts in bringing Lion to FA status.
I have since investigated the feasibility of such a search/analysis tool and developed a crude instrument. Pursuant to which, in regards to Lion, I predict the following:
1. "The male lion is highly distinctive"
Appears approx. 1130 revisions ago. Edited 05Jul07 by Casliber. Article ID is 142757044. Persists in the current revision.
2. "In the wild, lions live for around 10-14 years"
Appears approx. 4477 revisions ago. Edited 27May04 by 165.222.186.195. Article ID is 3806428. Disappears approx. 4454 revisions ago. Last seen or gone in revision 20Aug04 by Stereotek. Article ID 5700798.
3. "Lions live for approximately 10"
Appears approx. 267 revisions ago. Edited 11Sep07 by Casliber. Article ID is 157102622. Persists in the current revision.
You may note from 3. above, the tool has limitations, i.e. I could not find the "10-14 years" portion.
Your comments: - am I close to accurate on these predictions? I haven't checked them.
- is this the sort of useful tool you referred to?
- I have the Lion pages and would invite further queries, also any other challenge queries on different articles. Plain text only for now.
- the tool is wpW5 - wikipedia who-what-when-where-why - it is currently wpW5PxC, PxC being "proof-of-concept" or more realistically "pretty-xxx'in-crude". Your further input is appreciated. Franamax 10:08, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
When you're not busy in real life anymore, I've written articles on all four varieties. I daresay they are entirely satisfactory articles, but other than the taxonomy sections they lack the spark that makes for a good article. I suspect you'll be willing to take them under your wing and give them a bit of love. All in good time of course. Also I started a thread on the species talk page, which you might not have noticed (or you were too busy to address right away). Again, all in good time. I have plenty to go on with. Could you please swing by the recently updated King Vulture page and see if you can put in some information on where the scientific name came from, like you did to California Condor? This info would greatly help out the article and probably will be the trigger for me to nominate it at the good article page. Thanks. Hi Casliber. Yesterday I uncovered an intant prose-checking tool and I used it to test out the prose size of the Australian FAs and then counted up how many inline cites they had...Then I calculated the ref density (inline cites (including repeated usage) divided by the prose size) to get a quick measure of which Australian FAs needed a ref improve. The full stats are at User:Blnguyen/AusFA. I wonder if you could help with the wildlife stuff? I tried doing a bit on the Green Tree Frog but I don't think I was particularly efficient. File:Ac.bernardgrenfell.jpg was deleted with the note "copyright not expired." Given that copyright doesn't cover portraits prior to 1921, Grenfell's dates are 1869–1926, and the portrait is of a man not yet middle-aged, I seriously doubt the deletor knew the image to be out of copyright, but simply assumed guilty unless proven innocent.
I didn't upload this file, but did include it in a template that now has a yucky gap in it. How do we get such deletions reviewed? (Is there any accountability for such deletions?) Alastair Haines 15:48, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

It may be better to start off with Lambey; Allo practically begs for two or three copyeditors giving it a stern look, because of its size, whereas Lambey could get away with a spitpolish at this point. One thing I would like is for more comments on the scale images I suggested at the review page, the one with four allosaurs and the one with two lambeosaurs. I'll check Commons at some point and see if any has any museum pictures of Lambey to add to the second half, which is kind of bare, but otherwise Lambey would be quicker to work with. Personally, I'd like Acro to go first, since it's the cleanest and most complete of those in line, but I would really like Sheep to get the notch. J. Spencer 13:55, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi Cas,
The work most often quoted with respect to Lilith is truly ancient. It is indeed written in Sumerian which was already a dead language by 2000 BC. Archaeologist have actually found several copies of the old Sumerian story at separate locations. The texts of these copies are very similar.
The authoritative work on the Sumerian primary sources is done by Oxford University and published on their site, with the catchy name — ETCSL (Electronic Text Corpus of Sumerian Literature).
ETCSL provide a list of the original cuneiform sources, and of modern scholarly transliterations (equiv of Chinese pinyin) and translations. They also provide their own transliteration and translation online.
They name the story Gilgameš, Enkidu and the nether world. It is quite clear that the word lil-la-ke appears in the text, several times. However, Oxford do not translate this as Lilith, but as ghost. I believe there is scholarly literature regarding this matter. It is notable that lil-la-ke is preceded by the word ki-sikil = maiden (somewhere between teeny bopper and young woman). Sumerian is not cognate with Semitic languages, so connecting lil-la with LYL, is not etymologically responsible.
To keep the fun in the vampire article, and yet interact with the ancient sources reliably, we will need to be creative. In other words, without labouring the point, the etymology connecting the Lilith of some speculative Jewish midrashim with Babylonian mythology via Sumerian is folk etymology, though very wide-spread. I don't have the heart to burst the bubble.
I'll keep working on this. Akkadian language traces are the next step. Still no luck on Akhkharu. :( Alastair Haines 13:16, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Thats my first star, thank you very much! I wish there was something worthy of vampirism in Aztec lore! Theres plent of Aztec monsters/gods that demand blood though, and blood literally made the world go around in terms of cosmology. Unfortunaley, I haven't seen any Mesoamerican/Aztec references actually that suck or drink blood. On another note, I contribute to the Hindu Kali's page and there are references to her sucking demon blood and getting drunk on blood of the slaying on the battlefield. Kali's myths appear in the medieval era of India as well, and maybe we could start on a medieval period section on the Vampire page. The medieval period seem to hve spurred many vampire myths after all. :)

Hmmm, looks like a good starting point. I wonder how blue's going... I've been editing the Vampire in Popular fiction section; however I have a few concerns. You've added a part to the opening of the article about The Vampyre and Lord Byron. This seems waay too specific for the opening and should be more general. Besides, it's almost and exact replica of the text found in the fiction section (Minus the rewriting I've done). It should be removed/rewritten, which I can do with your permission. Also, this section of text in the fiction section is a bit weird and doesn't make sense (Not to me anyway...): "Poldori had earlier composed an enigmatic fragmentary story concerning the mysterious fate of an aristocrat named Augustus Darvell whilst journeying in the Orient - as his contribution to the famous ghost story competition at the Villa Diodati by Lake Geneva in 1816, between him, Percy Bysshe Shelley, Mary Shelley and Polidori. The story was highly successful and the most influential vampire work of the early 19th century." now, I assume you are talking about the Vampyre, but it sounds like you're talking about a previous work before The Vampyre - Poldori had earlier composed an enigmatic fragmentary story.... Could you clarify this? Anyway, will continue through, but we should really get expanding those section in World Beliefs, as it's starting to look like a list of things that seem similar to vampires, but aren't really... It needs to be turned into prose. Cheers, Spawn Man 01:40, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

I'm probably going to run this one thru FAC some stage soonish (I had intended to work it up and do it at the same time as B ericifolia but didn't 'feel right' at the time. Have left it for a bit and it looks in not bad nic at all really..(obviously not ready quite yet but not hugely far off neither....)....cheers, Casliber ( talk · contribs) 07:05, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Grrr, he's just opposed again and he's so vague it's not really giving me any idea on how to bliming start. Do you know what the heck he means by an art critism section? I have no freakin' idea where to start and your help would be greatly appreciated - as it is I'm struggling to get Vampire finished before I have to give the books back (Who knew books could only be granted for 3 weeks at some places!?), so I really can't afford to have this start. Since we're a team, would you be able to give me some hint as to what I'm supposed to do. If you do, I'll be forever in debt - I really can't be bothered making another FAC for Kertesz and frankly, I'll lose interest. Cheers Cas, Spawn Man 07:01, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
You are opposing promotion to FA on the basis of ONE sentence in an 82kb article, although you previously said you would see what others think! How would you re-word it..? Chrisieboy 09:30, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. (Oh, the names are Sarcoramphus papa and the older Gyparchus papa. Thanks again) Rufous-crowned Sparrow 02:04, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
Oh, and could you by any chance do the same taxonomy info thing on the other New World Vulture pages? Jude and I are going pretty hard at them right now, with him doing Greater Yellow-headed Vulture and Lesser Yellow-headed Vulture and myself King Vulture and going to start on Andean Condor tonight. Thanks. Rufous-crowned Sparrow 23:27, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Dont worry about it. It's only because the article I referenced is "orphaned" that I even bothered adding it to an article that's already so long. I've already taken it upon myself to add it to "Cultural Depictions of Lions," though, as you suggested. Phoenix Flower 03:52, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
If it were the Russosphere, rather than the Anglosphere, we'd all have known about this 50 year anniversary in advance. It took me opening the International Herald Tribune this morning to find out. I'll just get stuck into the sport ones since I know where to find refs and books for those ones. Regards, Blnguyen ( bananabucket) 03:11, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Hello Casliber,
Thank you so much for coming out in support of my RfA; it closed successfully a few hours ago, and I am grateful for your participation in support of my nomination.
Honestly, your comments took me quite by surprise — I was under the impression that nobody would take the time to look back at my old self-nomination. Although I was disappointed by the outcome of the episode, I was encouraged that you took the time to examine the bigger picture.
Now that is all said and done, I just wanted to know that I intend to be of service to the community. As such, if you have any need for administrative assistance, please feel free to contact me; I shall do my best to be of assistance to you. Cheers, -- Aarktica 01:31, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

I was stoked when I saw that Kertesz had been featured! I'm nearly catching up to you muahahahaa...
