Please do not transclude templates (like {{ hangon}} or {{ editprotected}}) onto pages like these as it sorts the page into categories (in this case Category:Wikipedia protected edit requests and Category:Contested candidates for speedy deletion) which wastes the time of admins and other editors patrolling those categories trying to deal with genuine requests. Hi - just want to let you know that I didn't protect the talk page. Instead, I hardblocked the user in question as a spam-promotional account, meaning that the IP address he used is autoblocked and he can't create a new account without appealing. I won't be able to respond to the block appeal since I blocked him, but I doubt another admin will unblock since he's already made his intentions known. He wasn't vandalizing, but he was clearly here to push an agenda. I think he thought he could insert his desired content if he talked somebody else into doing it. If another account starts doing the same thing, let me know. Thanks. :-) Krakatoa Katie 00:42, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged revisions, underwent a two-month trial which ended on 15 August 2010. Its continued use is still being discussed by the community, you are free to participate in such discussions. Many articles still have pending changes protection applied, however, and the ability to review pending changes continues to be of use.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under level 1 pending changes and edits made by non-reviewers to level 2 pending changes protected articles (usually high traffic articles). Pending changes was applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't grant you status nor change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.
If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 21:37, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

I am questioning why my edit deleting the reference to other elections was undone? The reference is irrelevant--the article is about Tom Allen, not about the 2008 national elections--he was taking on a popular incumbent, so it was always an uphill battle. The point of saying he lost while others elsewhere won "overwhelmingly" is what? Seems like a sly dig at him. As I said initially, it's POV and needs to be gone. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.241.219.250 ( talk) 01:50, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

I just wrote an update and you just choose to erase that information. Why? I am not paid to edit, I do this on my spear time to update the article. I am sorry, but I have closed your Request for adminship prematurely. Simply put, you only have 1509 edits on Wikipedia; while your edit count isn't the only determining factor, and numerous people have their own personal standards by which they judge RfA candidates, this particular RfA was all but assured of not passing.
I am sorry about this, and I hope you don't take it personally. If you continue to contribute to the project in a positive fashion, I am confident that you would be able to submit a successful RfA in the future. You may wish to consider applying for an evaluation by other Wikipedia editors for feedback on how to obtain the necessary experience. Once you are ready to request adminship again, there is a great admin coaching program available, as well as a guide to requests for adminship.
If you have any other questions about becoming an administrator, please don't hesitate to ask me. Good luck! →♠ Gƒoley↔ Four♣← 01:04, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

This is a leading candidate for the most unhelpful response you could possibly have given that user. As an IP editor he/she obviously can't edit the article because it's semi-protected, but used the wrong template ({{edit protected}} instead of {{edit semi-protected}}) to request an edit. Would it not have been better to just answer the edit request, rather than just stating that the wrong template was used and moving on? – Steel 01:55, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

Hello,
I wrote an article on "Subbedhunter420"... It was deleted for advertising and promotional reasons but the page was NEVER INTENDED to be used in that way... How may I write the article without it getting a red flag up for violating the fore mentioned rules? It is an autobiography of a friend of ours whom has legitimate sources and accomplishments in a field of science and culture. The downplaying of the Sephardi and the inability to be balanced on the issue of Zionism and Israel disgusts me. AshkeNAZI are NOT HEBREW PEOPLE and ISRAEL is no friend of the legitimate descendents of Abraham. You know it. I know it. Yahweh knows it. Allow people to provide proof that Zionism is a cancer to this planet, if you are to challenge them to do so. Not allowing the link because you are not a provider of links is a poor excuse to a highly biased and corrupt website. People are unable to provide proof to your challenges, not because it doesn't exist, but because you, in your little position of power, refuse to allow it, under the guise of technicalities and policy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.16.153.85 ( talk) 05:24, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

The 2011 WikiCup is now over, and our new champion is
Hurricanehink (
submissions), who joins the exclusive club of the previous winners:
Dreamafter (2007),
jj137 (2008),
Durova (2009) and
Sturmvogel_66 (2010). The final standings were as follows:
Prizes for first, second, third and fourth will be awarded, as will prizes for all those who reached the final eight. Every participant who scored in the competition will receive a ribbon of participation. In addition to the prizes based on placement, the following special prizes will be awarded based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, the prize is awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round.
No prize was awarded for featured pictures, sounds or portals, as none were claimed throughout the competition. The awards will be handed out over the next few days. Congratulations to all our participants, and especially our winners; we've all had fun, and Wikipedia has benefitted massively from our content work.
Preparation for next year's WikiCup is ongoing. Interested parties are invited to sign up and participate in our straw polls. It's been a pleasure to work with you all this year, and, whoever's taking part in and running the competition in 2012, we hope to see you all in January! Guild of Copy Editors November 2011 backlog elimination drive report
![]() Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors November 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We would like to thank all who participated in this drive. Here is the end-of-drive report.
There were 48 editors who signed-up for this drive, of which 35 participated. Thank you to everyone who helped reduce the size of the backlog!
During the drive, we reduced the backlog by 232 articles, or by about 6%. This is a two percent increase from our September drive, when we copy edited 4% of the backlog. We were successful in our primary goal of clearing the oldest three months—March, April, and May 2010—from the queue. Thanks to all who helped copy edit these difficult articles. Thus far we have reduced the copy edit backlog by 5086 articles, or by about 61%. End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here.
The term of our second tranche of coordinators has run out, and we will be accepting nominations from December 5, 00:01 UTC to December 15, 23:59 UTC. If you or any other member of the Guild of Copy Editors wishes to be a coordinator, add your name to this page along with a statement describing why you believe you should be a coordinator for the Guild. You must be able to commit to a six month term. Thanks! Once again, thank you for participating in the Guild's November 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Our next drive will be in January, and we hope to see you there! Your drive coordinators – Diannaa, Chaosdruid, The Utahraptor, Slon02 and SMasters |

Not to be disrespectful, but please do not interfere with the images being uploaded by this new editor. I know that you think that you are being helpful by your deletions, but you are not. The images in the Cone snail articles which you deleted were just recently uploaded (less than a day or two ago) by a brand new editor who is being watched and mentored. Your "help" will end up discouraging him at absolutely the wrong time - when he needs to be encouraged and feel good about his work. The new editor in question has over 2300 images he can help WikiProject Gastropods with, a huge and valuable assistance. What needed to be done was for the images to be given proper captions. The different images are meant to reflect the variability of the species - something unique to living creatures rather than manufactured items. Mollusks are not like postage stamps, so having multiple images which show the variation in shape and color is extremely important. I have replaced the images in question and given the images captions to reflect that the image is to show variation in the species. The new editor is just learning, and deleting his work may have a strong negative influence rather than a positive one. Let us police our own. Thank you. At the time of writing, we have 112 contestants; comparable to last year, but slightly fewer than 2010.
Signups will remain open for another week, after which time they will be closed for this year. Our currrent far-away leader is
The 64 highest scoring participants will advance to round 2 in a month's time. There, they will be split into eight random groups of eight. The score needed to reach the next round is not at all clear; last year, 8 points guaranteed a place. The year before, 20. A few participants and their work warrant a mention for achieving "firsts" in this competition.
We are yet to see any featured lists, featured topics or good topics, but this is unsurprising; firstly, the nomination processes with each of these can take some time, and, secondly, it can take a considerable amount of time to work content to this level. In a similar vein, we have seen only one featured article. The requirement that content must have been worked on this year to be eligible means that we did not expect to see these at the start of the competition. No points have been claimed for featured portals or pictures, but these are not content types which are often claimed; the former has never made a big impact on the WikiCup, while the latter has not done so since 2009's competition. A quick rules clarification before the regular notices: If you are concerned that another user is claiming points inappropriately, please contact a judge to take a look at the article. Competitors policing one another can create a bad atmosphere, and may lead to inconsistencies and mistakes. Rest assured that we, the judges, are making an effort to check submissions, but it is possible that we will miss something. On a loosely related note: If you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! The remaining contestants have been split into 8 pools of 8, named A through H. Round two will finish in two months time on 28 April, when the two highest scorers in each pool, as well as the next 16 highest scorers, will progress to round 3. The pools were entirely random, so while some pools may end up being more competitive than others, this is by chance rather than design. The judges would like to point out two quick rules reminders. First, any content promoted during the interim period (that is, on or after 27 February) is eligible for points in round 2. Second, any content worked on significantly this year is eligible for points if promoted in this round. On a related note, if you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which would otherwise be caused by the Cup. Over the last few months we've been developing the new Article Feedback Tool, which features a free text box. it is imperative that we work out in advance what proportion of feedback is useful or not so we can adjust the design accordingly and not overwhelm you with nonsense. This is being done through the
Feedback Evaluation System (FES), a tool that lets editors run through a stream of comments, selecting their value and viability, so we know what type of design should be promoted or avoided. We're about to start a new round of evaluations, beginning with an
office hours session tomorrow at 18:00 UTC. If you'd like to help preemptively kill poor feedback, come along to #wikimedia-office and we'll show you how to use the tool. All other elements are either undergoing research, or about to have development started. I appreciate this sounds like we've not got through much work, and truthfully we're a bit disappointed with it as well; we thought we'd be going at a faster pace :(. Unfortunately there seems to be some 24-72 hour bug sweeping the San Francisco office at the moment, and at one time or another we've had several devs out of it. It's kind of messed with workflow. Stuff to look at We've got a pair of new mockups to comment on that deal with the filtering mechanism; this is a slightly updated mockup of the list view, and this is what the filtering tab is going to look like. Round 2 of this year's WikiCup is over, and so we are down to our final 32, in what could be called our quarter-finals. The two highest scorers from each pool, as well as the next 16 highest scorers overall, have entered round 3, while 30 participants have been eliminated. Pool B's
65 points was the lowest qualifying score for round 3; significantly higher than the 11 required to enter round 2, and also higher than the 41 required to reach round 3 last year. However, in 2010, 100 points were needed to secure a place in round 3. 16 will progress to round 4. In round 3, 150 points was the 16th highest score, though, statistically, people tend to up their game a little in later rounds. Last year, 76 points secured a place, while in 2010, a massive 250 points were needed. Guessing how many points will be required is not easy. We still have not seen any featured portals or topics this year, but, on the subject of less common content types, a small correction needs to be made to the previous newsletter:

Hey Breawycker/Archive (all) :). A quick update on how things are going with the New Page Triage/New Pages Feed project. As the enwiki page notes, the project is divided into two chunks: the "list view" (essentially an updated version of Special:NewPages) and the "article view", a view you'll be presented with when you open up individual articles that contains a toolbar with lots of options to interact with the page - patrolling it, adding maintenance tags, nominating it for deletion, so on. On the list view front, we're pretty much done! We tried deploying it to enwiki, in line with our Engagement Strategy on Wednesday, but ran into bugs and had to reschedule - the same happened on Thursday :(. We've queued a new deployment for Monday PST, and hopefully that one will go better. If it does, the software will be ready to play around with and test by the following week! :). On the article view front, the developers are doing some fantastic work designing the toolbar, which we're calling the "curation bar"; you can see a mockup here. A stripped-down version of this should be ready to deploy fairly soon after the list view is; I'm afraid I don't have precise dates yet. When I have more info, or can unleash everyone to test the list view, I'll let you know :). As always, any questions to the talkpage for the project or mine. Thanks!

All I did was add my own Photo of his VC & the location of the Albert Ball memorial homes. If you believe this warrants a warning or is an act of vandalism I don't believe you are operating in the spirit of Wikipedia.
Please revert back to the previous edit, you are for more experienced that I but surely my edits add to the page If you can fit it into the article I will remove the warning from your page.

Suffice to say, I'm not the vandal for the trumpet article. I also noticed that while the IP address is the same, I've seen this IP on a different computer at a different library branch. Breawycker why did you revert the Yamaha DX1 [2] article? Did you discuss this first or just did because of what? Do you own a DX-1? Do you have any information on a DX-1? It helps.
I just wrote an update and you just choose to erase that information. Why? I am not paid to edit, I do this on my spear time to update the article. The sources of imformation came from me as I contributed a great deal of time to provide sources and information and when someone erases it like that, I question why. So made you choose to do this? Agreed, a very bad title, but I don't think it qualifies for a speedy delete under C1 as that applies to " unpopulated categories". Perhaps " A7. Patent nonsense."? ;-) - 220.101 talk \Contribs 16:01, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi - I am very inexperienced at Wikipedia. I was experimenting with how to upload a photo and insert it into an entry. I did not intend to publish it. When I did so, I received a message from you that you were tagging for deletion the entire entry of Douglas Rediker and not just the experimental photo. Please confirm that this is not the case. I am fine with deleting the experimental photo, as I did not intend to have it published in the first place. Thanks. nydclon

Thanks for uploading File:Can of Sac Sac Orange Juice.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed.

The 2011 WikiCup is now over, and our new champion is

submissions), who joins the exclusive club of the previous winners:

I appreciate this isn't quite what you signed up for, but I figured as people who are already pretty good at evaluating whether material is useful or not useful through Special:NewPages, you might be interested :).
Big update on what the developers have been working on, and what is coming up: coding
All thoughts, comments and suggestions welcome on the NPT talkpage :). I'd also like to thank the people who came to our last two office hours sessions; the logs will be shortly available here. I've also just heard that the first functional prototype for enwiki will be deployed mid-April! Really, really stoked to see this happening :). We're finding out if we can stick something up a bit sooner on prototype.wiki or something. I appreciate there may be questions or suggestions where I've said "I'll find out and get back to you" and then, uh. not ;p. I sincerely apologise for that: things have been a bit hectic at this end over the last few weeks. But if you've got anything I've missed, drop me a line and I'll deal with it! I'm really new, so could you perhaps tell me if things like a picture, or any more references are needed to verify the information? Also, I wasn't sure how to a bibliography; should I source from specific types of websites? With all due respect, Orpherebus. ( talk) 02:38, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
Hello, Breawyker! Just saw your notes on my Talk page this morning about adding the C-SPAN templates. Please accept the barnstar-inspired award below as recognition for your contribution. Meanwhile, if you're in the U.S. then you are eligible for a C-SPAN baseball cap; if you're interested, I'd be happy to arrange it. You can email me using my address listed in the sidebar. Cheers, WWB Too ( talk) 12:24, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
Hi. When you recently edited WWU Women's Rowing, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Varsity ( check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

An article on the WikiCup in the Wikimedia Blog, "
Improving Wikipedia with friendly competition", was posted at the end of April. This may be of interest to those who are signed up to this newsletter, as well as serving as another way to draw attention to our project. Also, we would again like to thank

Thanks! -- Breawycker ( talk to me!) 20:44, 20 May 2012 (UTC) Hey all :). A notification that the prototype for the New Pages Feed is now live on enwiki! We had to briefly take it down after an unfortunate bug started showing up, but it's now live and we will continue developing it on-site. The page can be found at Special:NewPagesFeed. Please, please, please test it and tell us what you think! Note that as a prototype it will inevitably have bugs - if you find one not already mentioned at the talkpage, bring it up and I'm happy to carry it through to the devs. The same is true of any additions you can think of to the software, or any questions you might have - let me know and I'll respond.
