Battle of Long Tan 18 August 1966 and Victory over Japan Day ( WW II)
“ | By virtue of the authority invested in me as the President of the United States and as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the United States, I have today awarded the Presidential Unit Citation (Army) for extraordinary heroism to D Company, Sixth Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment, The Australian Army.
D Company distinguished itself by extraordinary heroism while engaged in military operations against an opposing armed force in Vietnam on 18 August 1966. While searching for Viet Cong in a rubber plantation northeast of Ba Ria, Phuoc Tuy, Province, Republic of Vietnam, D Company met and immediately engaged in heavy contact. As the battle developed, it became apparent that the men of D Company were facing a numerically superior force. The platoons of D Company were surrounded and attacked on all sides by an estimated reinforced enemy battalion using automatic weapons, small arms and mortars. Fighting courageously against a well armed and determined foe, the men on D Company maintained their formations in a common perimeter defence and inflicted heavy casualties on the Viet Cong. The enemy maintained a continuous, intense volume of fire and attacked repeatedly from all directions. Each successive assault was repulsed by the courageous Australians. Heavy rainfall and low ceiling prevented any friendly close air support during the battle. After three hours of savage attacks, having failed to penetrate the Australian lines, the enemy withdrew from the battlefield carrying many dead and wounded, and leaving 245 Viet Cong dead forward of the defence positions of D Company. The conspicuous courage, intrepidity and indomitable courage of D Company were to the highest tradition of military valour and reflect great credit upon D Company and the Australian Army. Lyndon B. I'm just letting you know that I declined your deletion request for Lata Sharma, a page that you tagged for speedy deletion, because the criterion you used or the reason you gave does not cover this kind of page. Please take a moment to look at the suggested tasks for patrollers and review the criteria for speedy deletion. Particularly, the section covering non-criteria. Such pages are best tagged with proposed deletion, proposed deletion for biographies of living persons, or sent to the appropriate deletion discussion. I started editing WP from this IP on 11 September 2009, now after 11,912 edits over 25 months (and 32 talk page stalkers), it will cease to be 'mine' as the Unwired wireless Internet system will be no more as of midnight 28 February 2013. Optus bought Unwired in 2012 and I imagine the IP will also be theirs now.
It's interesting that, considering the alleged shortage of IP addresses that this IP remained 'mine' for so long, it only seemed to change, 220.101.30.184 ( talk · contribs), when I edited from another location (same modem & computer), or changed computer (same modem & location, hence my current IP), although I have feeling it may have also changed when IPV6 came in. (OMG look at it 2002:DC65:1D67:0:0:0:DC65:1D67 (22 characters), it was 220.101.29.103 a moment ago!?? & back again!)
If any other WP editors use this IP, good luck to you, just don't try to claim the edits I did, and respect the (apparently) good reputation I gained.
I have had an account for almost 15 months now, and recommend that IP editors create one, for crediting of edits if nothing else. Happy Editing! - 220.101.29.103 ( talk) 11:38, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

There is a backstage pass coming up to be followed by an editathon in the State Library of New South Wales on 23 November. This is the first time that an Australian cultural institution has opened its doors to us in this way and will be a special opportunity because the Library is providing: one of its best rooms; its expert curators (along with their expertise and their white gloves); a newly launched website (containing new resources); and of course, items from its collection (including rare and usually unavailable material) which we can look at, learn from, and use, to improve WP articles. For example, on the chosen topic (Australia and WWI), the Library holds many diaries and manuscripts from the period.
As you can see from the Library's project page, they have connected this editathon with their own work. They have already set out a wide range of resources to make things easier for us. Please sign up on the editathon project page if you can participate either online or in person with other Wikipedians. Hope to see you there! Lankiveil ( speak to me) 06:33, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
