Hi, thanks for your message. I see you've removed the CSD tag. If you check the page logs, you'll see it has been deleted as A7 in the past. 21:48, 31 July 2012 (UTC)We're approaching the beginning of 2012's final round. Pool A sees
Cwmhiraeth (
submissions) as the leader, with 300 points being awarded for the featured article
Bivalvia, and Pool B sees
Grapple X (
submissions) in the lead, with 10 good articles, and over 35 articles eligible for good topic points. Pool A sees
Muboshgu (
submissions) in second place with a number of articles relating to baseball, while Pool B's
Ruby2010 (
submissions) follows Grapple X, with a variety of contributions including the high-scoring, high-importance featured article on the 2010 film
Pride & Prejudice. Ruby2010, like Grapple X, also claimed a number of good topic points; despite this, not a single point has been claimed for featured topics in the contest so far. The same is true for featured portals.
Currently, the eighth-place competitor (and so the lowest scorer who would reach the final round right now) has scored 332, more than double the 150 needed to reach the final round last year. In 2010, however, 430 was the lowest qualifying score. In this competition, we have generally seen scores closer to those in 2010 than those in 2011. Let's see what kind of benchmark we can set for future competitions! As ever, if you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Hi, I write to you based on my understanding of Wikipedia:Deletion review which I merely skimmed. 30 Jan 2012, you closed discussion Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Compaq Presario 5000 with the judgment "merge to Compaq Presario". 12 Feb 2012, Compaq Presario was itself erased --replaced by redirect to Compaq. 15:59, 31 August 2012 (UTC)![]() Armbrust ( block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser ( log)) Request reason: I think this block is disproportionate. The first two edits by the IP ( [14] & [15]) both changed statistical information so it contradicted the source. Further edits ( [16], [17], [18], [19], [20]) replaced a high quality RS with a user edited website. The IP also added the same user-edited source to another snooker article and was reverted by an editor independent to this dispute. The IP susbsequently tried to source the changes through an WP:SPS with [21]. After both of these sources were rightfully rejected on RS grounds (user edited databases and fansites are clearly not acceptable) the IP made a number of disruptive edits: [22], [23]. Whereas Armbrust has recently been justifiably blocked for engaging in an edit war, I do not think he is guilty of edit-warring in this case. I believe these reverts fall under WP:NOT3RR. Any reasonable interpretation of policy would agree these edits would have to be reverted on the grounds of being poorly sourced edits to a biography of a living person. I would have reverted all of these edits myself if I had been aware of them, so I think this block needs to be reviewed in regards to the nature of the reverts. Armbrust could have provided more helpful edit summaries because it looks like edit-warring at first glance, but on closer inspection I honestly think a 3RR exemption should apply in this case. In event that the block is upheld, I do think the duration is excessive given the fact this is an article about a living person and these edits would have had to come out on policy grounds. Betty Logan ( talk) 19:03, 31 August 2012 (UTC) Decline reason: Firstly, it is not usual to consider unblock requests coming from users other than the blocked user, and for that reason I am surprised that several administrators have commented in support of the block but not declined this request. Secondly, we have to consider "do not edit war even if you believe you are right." Thirdly, we have to consider the editor's extensive history of blocks for edit warring, in view of which a much longer block is justified than otherwise might be considered for the same immediate reason. Finally, reading the comments on this page, there is clearly a consensus in support of the block, with a couple of dissenting voices. In fact, in view of the history, an indefinite block might not have been surprising, even in a case where there might be some degree of justice in the edits. JamesBWatson ( talk) 20:52, 1 September 2012 (UTC) If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{ unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

The final is upon us! We are down to our final 8. A massive 573 was our lowest qualifying score; this is higher than the 150 points needed last year and the 430 needed in 2010. Even in 2009, when points were acquired for mainspace edit count in addition to audited content, 417 points secured a place. That leaves this year's WikiCup, by one measure at least, our most competitive ever. Our finalists, ordered by round 4 score, are:
However, we must also say goodbye to the eight who did not make the final, having fallen at the last hurdle:
GreatOrangePumpkin (

Hi Armbrust, I am just writing to say that I am happy for the Archange Nkumu image to be taken down and I do not really mind on that one. About my DYK nomination, I just wanted to ask you for some guidance as you say the hook isn't cited in the article, but it appears to me that it is, which makes me question my understanding of the word hook in that context anyway. Do you only go by the fact that it doesn't have a templated version?— Ryulong ( 琉竜) 13:38, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
We're over half way through the final, and so it is less than a month until we know for certain our 2012 WikiCup champion.
Grapple X (
submissions) currently leads, followed by
Sasata (
submissions),
Cwmhiraeth (
submissions) and
Casliber (
submissions). However, we have no one resembling a breakaway leader, and so the competition is a long way from over. Next month's newsletter will feature a list of our winners (who are not necessarily only the finalists) and keep your eyes open for an article on the WikiCup in a future edition of
The Signpost. The leaders are already on a par with last year's winners, but a long way from the huge scores seen in 2010. That said, a repeat of the competition from 2010 seems unlikely.
It is good to see that three-quarters of our finalists have already scored bonus points this round. This shows that, contrary to criticism that the WikiCup has received in the past, the competition does not merely incentivise the writing of trivial articles; instead, our top competitors are still spending their time contributing to high-importance articles, and bringing them to a high standard. This does a great service to the encyclopedia and its readers. Thank you, and good work!
The planning for next year's WikiCup is ongoing. Some straw polls have been opened concerning the scoring, and you can now sign up for next year's competition. As ever, if you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Hello, Armbrust. You were helpful before, so I am contacting you again about making changes. My account is now confirmed, and I have begun uploading pictures that I have found at many different places in the public domain. Unfortunately, I do not seem to be able to upload past two photos at the moment. Is there a time limit I must wait between each time I put on a picture? Thank you for your time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Today2 ( talk • contribs) 02:34, 16 July 2012

Saw your decline. I was not aware of the a7 restriction on educational orgs, thanks for informing me. However, after re-reading the article, I do not believe that is an education organization and therefore the original speedy was legitimate, however I will not contest too strongly. It is clearly talking about standards and training of employees of technical companies. In any case, I have PRODed it. Gaijin42 ( talk) 15:29, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for your message. I see you've removed the CSD tag. If you check the page logs, you'll see it has been deleted as A7 in the past. Though you're right in saying that A7 doesn't specifically apply to buildings, it does apply to companies and organizations. The article isn't specifically about the building itself; it's about the business (a hotel). I would ask that you replace the tag. If not, I'll go to AfD instead. Regards.
Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Is there an easy way to combine all the Olympic templates into one TfD discussion? I'm not an expert on how it works but it would certainly be easier as I assume every comment will apply to every template and there is no sense in duplicated comments across all TfD entries. -- Biker Biker ( talk) 15:13, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
( {revision history}) I infer the concluding editor Alan Liefting is the one who had proposed Compaq Presario 5000 for deletion; he was the first to comment in the deletion discussion.
The current situation is, for example,

Ealdgyth (

Calvin999 (

Toa Nidhiki05 (

Hi Armbrust, I am just writing to say that I am happy for the Archange Nkumu image to be taken down and I do not really mind on that one. About my DYK nomination, I just wanted to ask you for some guidance as you say the hook isn't cited in the article, but it appears to me that it is, which makes me question my understanding of the word hook in that context anyway. If you could explain in more detail I would be happy to alter the article. Thanks for your time Mikeo34 ( talk) 15:15, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

I don't completely understand the relevant policy or your note on the unprotect request for the Oktay Sinanoğlu page.
