Goals
To improve the quality of existing articles related to Canada, and to encourage more editors to improve general article quality and sourcing. Destubbing/cleaning up/sourcing stale older articles, particularly on places and landmarks, is especially welcome.
To encourage the creation of quality missing content, and build a highly comprehensive coverage of Canada on English Wikipedia. In doing so, to develop a detailed missing article directory for Canada, by province and topic, to promote long-term growth and overall scope.
To generate a momentum for Canada and to stage contests/editathons which fuel growth and attract people to develop articles more evenly by area. Many provincial WikiProjects are currently barely active but might have a few dedicated editors who plow on and do most of the work anyway. If you feel like one of those people, this challenge could be a way to attract new editors to work on articles for your province, to increase interest, and to get projects more active again.
In the long term, to continue to build bridges with more institutions within Canada and to get them to see the potential of Wikipedia. To continue to get libraries, universities, and cultural institutions involved in hosting editathons and in forming partnerships with Wikipedia in contests to promote growth and interest in each province.
If anybody would be interested in a smaller 1000 Challenge for a province like British Columbia or Ontario or even one for a sport like ice hockey feeding into this, propose it on the talk page, but it'll need support to do it!
Contests
Contests can be a great way to get editors to work on stale older content, particularly stubs or important neglected core articles, and significantly boost the challenge. It can be a way to fuel the challenge and realistically reach the target in a shorter duration than normal.
Whenever I have the chance, I'll add infoboxes and check sources!

Helga Stephenson – expansion, referencing improvement and destubbing
Bearcat (

Anne Delong (
talk) 01:02, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
The Hilarious House of Frightenstein – I'm having a surprisingly hard time finding as much improved sourcing as one would expect for a TV show that was this well known, but I've added some improved references nonetheless; also made some structural improvements and pruned back on some unsourceable insider trivia like Julius Sumner Miller's ride from the airport to Hamilton (which who really cares)
Bearcat (

talk) 23:08, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
Eagle & Hawk – referencing and tone and structure repair on an article so egregious that it was nominated for AFD as lacking notability despite the band having won a
Juno Award. Admittedly still needs some further improvement – I expect midsize Prairie market newspapers like the Brandon Sun and the Thompson Citizen and the Prince Albert Daily Herald, which aren't in ProQuest, would help out – but I've done what I can with what I got.
Bearcat (
talk) 01:48, 20 February 2017 (UTC)

talk) 22:03, 13 July 2017 (UTC)
Marjo – reference repair and expansion
Bearcat (
talk) 23:38, 13 July 2017 (UTC)
La Voix (season 4) – cleaned up a nest of sloppy links created by participants who somehow found ways to redlinkNirvana and
Adele and "
Stay With Me (Sam Smith song)" by using implausible non-English disambiguators instead of, I dunno, checking where our article was located first?
Bearcat (
talk) 03:54, 14 July 2017 (UTC)
Two's a Crowd (TV series) – correction of a profoundly dumb misfire where the article only addressed the shortlived English version while briefly acknowledging but otherwise ignoring its much longer-running history as the French-language Jamais deux sans toi. Thing being, it wasn't a refilmed adaptation of J2S3 that would have warranted a separate article – it was a dub.
Bearcat (
talk) 05:28, 18 July 2017 (UTC)
Serge Thériault – added references and unboggled what read like a really bad machine translation from the French ("Theriault played several roles in several Quebec television series and movies since it debut in the acting industry in 1973." It?)

Provincial Research Organization - recovered dead encyclopedia links, reorganized to remove external links from the body of the article.—
Anne Delong (
talk) 14:12, 25 September 2017 (UTC)

Bearcat (
talk) 13:58, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
Weaves (band) - long-overdue split of
Weaves (EP) so that the band had a separate article from the recording; this was necessary a year ago when they released their first full-length album, so the EP was no longer the sum total of their recorded output, and with a second full-length album due within days it really had to happen now.
Bearcat (
talk) 19:10, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

Anne Delong (
talk) 01:02, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
The Hilarious House of Frightenstein – I'm having a surprisingly hard time finding as much improved sourcing as one would expect for a TV show that was this well known, but I've added some improved references nonetheless; also made some structural improvements and pruned back on some unsourceable insider trivia like Julius Sumner Miller's ride from the airport to Hamilton (which who really cares)
Bearcat (
talk) 20:09, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

Eagle & Hawk – referencing and tone and structure repair on an article so egregious that it was nominated for AFD as lacking notability despite the band having won a
Juno Award. Admittedly still needs some further improvement – I expect midsize Prairie market newspapers like the Brandon Sun and the Thompson Citizen and the Prince Albert Daily Herald, which aren't in ProQuest, would help out – but I've done what I can with what I got.
Bearcat (
talk) 01:48, 20 February 2017 (UTC)

Weaves (band) - long-overdue split of
Weaves (EP) so that the band had a separate article from the recording; this was necessary a year ago when they released their first full-length album, so the EP was no longer the sum total of their recorded output, and with a second full-length album due within days it really had to happen now.
