Sinon (Sword Art Online)

Moved to mainspace by ZappaOMati ( talk) and Satellizer ( talk). Nominated by NFLisAwesome ( talk) at 18:14, 21 April 2016 (UTC).

  • Awesome, as partial co-writer I would love to see more fictional character articles at DYK! I'm not too sold on the current hook though, it's a tad uninteresting and I guess I'm a bit wary of rephrasing one reviewer's opinion of Sinon as fact. Personally I think something like "...that Sword Art Online character Sinon started playing a gun-based video game to cure her fear of guns?" or "...that Sword Art Online character Sinon's glasses were created as authors felt there aren't enough characters in the series with glasses?" would be better. Am open to discussion though Satellizer el Bridget  (Talk) 13:37, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
  • @ Satellizer: I was considering the glasses one for a while, but I couldn't find a way to phrase it correctly without going over the 200-character limit. After doing some formatting of your proposed hooks, it looks like they're under 200, so...
  • ALT1 (148 characters): ...that Sword Art Online character Sinon started playing a gun-based video game to cure her fear of guns?
  • ALT2 (183 characters): ... that Sword Art Online character Sinon's glasses were created as authors felt there were not enough characters in the series with glasses? Zappa 24 Mati 15:46, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
Personally I like ALT1 the best as I find it to be the most interesting part of her character, but maybe that's just me. I'm fine either way Satellizer el Bridget  (Talk) 07:15, 2 May 2016 (UTC)
  • This article is new enough and long enough. I also like ALT1 best and have struck the other hooks as less interesting. The hook fact is cited inline. The article is neutral but the sources in general are not available to me so I cannot check for copyright issues. I have changed the credits because NFLisAwesome created the article rather than merely nominating it for DYK. Cwmhiraeth ( talk) 05:18, 11 May 2016 (UTC)
  • Rule C6: "If the subject is a work of fiction or a fictional character, the hook must involve the real world in some way." Yoninah ( talk) 22:40, 11 May 2016 (UTC)
  • ALT3 ... that Sinon ranked as both fourth and ninth in a fan contest of 41 options for the next Sword Art Online figurine?
How about ALT3? It involves the real world, and is mentioned and sourced in the last sentence of the Popularity section. — Maile ( talk) 23:24, 11 May 2016 (UTC)
@ Maile66: I'm a little iffy on that one, to be honest, since it's not too surprising for an arc's deuteragonist to be ranked so high. Scrolling through, I thought this article talking about how she ranked higher in a Monthly Newtype poll than the Aincrad arc's heroine Asuna could make for an interesting hook. It also says that Asuna had been dominating the poll in the past, so I just need to find a source for how long in particular (and maybe a couple others) and I can probably write an ALT4 based on that. Zappa 24 Mati 00:00, 12 May 2016 (UTC)
As it stands, I personally prefer ALT2 to 3 as I find it to be more interesting. Like ZappOMati said, one of the series' most popular characters ranking high isn't that surprising. Satellizer el Bridget  (Talk) 23:59, 12 May 2016 (UTC)
ALT2 technically could apply to the real world, so I have unstruck it for now until we get a better hook. Zappa 24 Mati 02:44, 15 May 2016 (UTC)
I'm ok with ALT2. Let's get this going to the main page. The offline hook ref is AGF and cited inline. Rest of review per Cwmhiraeth. ALT2 good to go. Yoninah ( talk) 20:05, 19 May 2016 (UTC)
