Inside a train car on the Chūō local line I saw an interesting sign, but didn't have time to fully translate it. It basically said that the current car (a 209 series, I'm pretty sure) was eco-friendly, and used just 47% of the power required by the 103 series cars it had replaced. The sign made it seem like it was a recent innovation, but, this article aays that the 209s have been around for awhile. It also seems odd that they would be promoting an energy savings which was 13 years old; but stranger things have happened... Does anyone know anything about this? If I get a chance to ride that line again, I'll see if I can snap a picture to supplement by bad memory.

Were any 209 trains removed from service since the introduction of E233 trains? I know they still exist on the Chuo-Sobu Line, I'm not sure about any other lines. SlitherioFan2016 ( talk • contribs) 06:46, 12 December 2016 (UTC)

From 19 April 2019, 209-500 series sets were permanently retired from the Chuo-Sobu Line. I have updated the article, however am yet to find a source. -- SlitherioFan2016 ( talk • contribs) 23:14, 9 June 2019 (UTC)
