Modern historians like Mohibbul Hasan (Kashmir Under the Sultans) and Ghulām Muhyiʼd Dīn Sūfī (Kashir Being a History of Kashmir) have introduced Zayn al-Abidin as Zayn al-Abidin the Great. Beside modern historians, Zayn al-Abidin's personal chronicler Jonaraja has called him "the Great" as well in his book Rajatarangini.
