Should a reference to the Woody Allen sexual assault allegation be included in the lead section? A discussion on inclusion in the lead was commenced a year ago without result, and I think community input is desirable. Please note that the current version of the article does not contain a reference to the abuse allegation anywhere in the lead section. There was an RfC in 2018 on inclusion in the lead paragraph not the lead section, with a consensus finding it should not be included in the first paragraph. …Critics have called his work from the 1980s his most developed period. His films include Zelig (1983), Broadway Danny Rose (1984), The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985), Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), Radio Days (1987), Another Woman (1988), and Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989). Many of his 21st-century films, including Match Point (2005), Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008), and Midnight in Paris (2011), are set in Europe. Blue Jasmine (2013) and Cafe Society (2016) are set in New York City and San Francisco.
In 1979, Allen began a professional and personal relationship with actress Mia Farrow and over a decade-long period collaborated in 13 films, beginning with A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy (1982) and continuing with Zelig (1983), Broadway Danny Rose (1984), The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985), Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989) and Alice (1990). There is a cited reference in the lede that Woody Allen started his career with Your Show of Shows, but that is contradicted later in the "Career" section, that he first wrote for Sid Caesar after that. Allen's IMDB page gives his first work for Sid Caesar in 1958 -- 4 years after Your Show of Shows and even after Caesar's Hour. Allen's personal site also lists the 1958 work as his earliest. Cross-checking, Larry Gelbart (also listed on this article as working with Allen on Your Show of Shows) doesn't mention collaborating this early. Allen may have submitted jokes to various shows (including Your Show of Shows) before becoming more successful but I question the accuracy of the Time article and think the lede should be revised without this reference. @ Homeostasis07: I find this edit of yours to negatively effect the quality of the article because it removes context. It was a petition in support of Polanski being arrested. This edit introduced lengthy material about Moses Farrow's allegations against Mia Farrow. For a very long time, we simply mentioned and linked to sources on those allegations, which strikes me as more appropriate as they are not allegations about Woody Allen. I certainly see the relevance to a mention - they are part of the difficult history here. But the length of this section now takes up nearly 10% of the entire article.
There is an additional issue that this is largely sourced to a blog, rather than a WP:RS - reliable sources appear to mainly have simply noted the allegations and not treated them as fact but as allegations. As such it seems excessive for us to quote them at length. This page is about Woody Allen, not about Mia Farrow.-- Jimbo Wales ( talk) 10:53, 3 February 2022 (UTC)
Why would Moses Farrow's long and detailed indictment of Mia Farrow as an unfit mother be a problem because it's a post on his blog? Moses Farrow is a professional family therapist. He knew her intimately, as her adopted son, for many years. He describes her as violent, vindictive, irrational and obsessively controlling. This immediately throws into question not just her suitability as a mother, but as a believable witness in the allegations against Woody Allen. Moses Farrow's blog post, "A Son Speaks Out," is essential in assessing her reliability. Quotes from this post should have been included at length in the article. The fact that this information was reduced to four lines suggests that the editors did not want light shed on Mia Farrow's character and behavior from a reliable source. And that is not what editors are supposed to do. Younggoldchip ( talk) 16:46, 21 June 2022 (UTC)
The first line in the "Early Life" section states that Allen was born in Brooklyn at a hospital in the Bronx. In the last paragraph of the lead section it is stated that: "In 1992, Farrow publicly accused Allen of sexually abusing their adopted daughter, the seven-year-old Dylan Farrow."
Considering that there are three people named Farrow mentioned in the paragraph and that there have been attempts to discredit Dylan Farrow by saying she was coached by her mother Mia Farrow, I think this ambiguity should be cleared up.
Someone with permission to edit should change the bold farrow to "Dylan Farrow" or "Farrow" or another phrase that will clear up confusion about who accused Allen. Callum Cuda ( talk) 02:20, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
The article should mention that the 2021 documentary Allen v Farrow was stage-managed by Ronan Farrow, who had business dealings with HBO. Although the series had four parts, and ample time in which to give factual information from both sides, it does not. A picture of toddler Dylan sitting on Allen's knee is presented as sinister, while the doc passes over certain more troubling facts about Mia's mothering style. For example, she slept nude in Ronan's bed until he was eleven. Three of her adopted children had very disturbing premature deaths. Her son Moses, supported by other adopted siblings, has said and written that Farrow was abusive. This documentary was indeed a hatchet job. An honest exploration of real facts was the last thing on the directors' minds. Dick and Ziering have said it was standard journalistic practice to contact Allen and Soon-yi Pevin for their input only two weeks before the film was to air. It was not. It was staggeringly unacceptable and unprofessional. As far as the directors were concerned, the film was complete. They did not want its borderline defamatory content disturbed by input from Allen and Previn. Younggoldchip ( talk) 16:14, 27 May 2023 (UTC)
The most detailed account of Mia Farrow's abuse of her children comes from Moses Farrow's post "A Son Speaks Out." He clearly explained his reasons for believing that the premature deaths of three of his siblings were suicide. He believed that her parenting style was often emotionally brutal and drove some of her children to despair. In Woody Allen's autobiography, Apropos of Nothing, he also presents specific examples of her dubious parenting, such as her sleeping nude with Ronan until he was eleven. Try to imagine how this fact would have been greeted, by the public and by judges, if Allen had been the unclothed parent in this situation and Dylan had been the child. Allegedly she also pressured young Ronan into having agonizing leg-lengthening operations because she wanted him to be a politician, and believed that successful politians were tall.Farrow has not denied this peculiar behavior. In his memoir, Allen gives many other examples of her poor judgment and occasionally violent irrationality. She did not sue him for defamation or libel for these claims. Younggoldchip ( talk) 14:05, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
Someone vandalized the page replaced "Woody Allen" with "Heywood Allen" and for some reason no one noticed it, so I did this put again "Woody Allen" and i also need to know who did this. LeronJomes ( talk) 00:29, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
There seems to be consensus that the allegation that Allen abused Dylan Farrow should remain in the lead. That seems reasonable to me but surely, if the allegation is to be aired so prominently in the article then equal prominence should be given to the fact that the independent investigation into the allegation found it to be false. Yes the investigation is mentioned later - much later (and in passing) - but not in the lead. Many (most?) readers only bother with the lead, and may conclude "there's no smoke without fire". It seems only fair that they should immediately be informed that the only substantial investigation of the allegation concluded that, in this case, there very definitely was smoke without fire. I can't see any possible objection to including a line to that effect and, if there are no objections, propose to do so. Brooklyn Eagle ( talk) 04:36, 17 September 2023 (UTC)

I understand that in his 2020 autobiography, Allen recounts that he was actually born November 30 but his parents pushed the registration. But that's more of a funny anecdote than anything else. December 1 is still the date written on his documents and probably the date he has celebrated his birthday all his life. I'd say the article should use December 1 as the official birth date and November 30 in the note, to acknowledge the information. Kumagoro-42 ( talk) 23:37, 9 November 2023 (UTC)
