Possible image layout solutions for the 2003–2006 generation
Originally, there was a problem fitting both front and rear images of Touran, whereby it would affect article layout. If anyone would like to use larger images of Touran, even without the {{multiple image}} template, then there are some of these possibilities:
The front image could be placed into the "Model year 2003 to 2006" section and the rear image could be placed into the Safety section, which also applies to the 2003–2006 model years;
Another option is to still use the {{multiple image}} template, but then position the photos horizontally and align the template to center, and specify greater image widths/sizes.
These three images are currently used in the infoboxes in the article:
File:2018 Volkswagen Touran 1.6.jpg is the current image in the main infobox. It is of a reasonable quality but has a few issues: It depicts a grey car against a largely grey background, which particularly in thumbnail form makes the car somewhat harder to discern and may particularly pose an issue for
readers who have some level of visual impairment. The similarity of the grill of the car parked behind to the Touran's grille also creates a somewhat distracting effect, and the reflections of clouds on the windscreen make it look like the windscreen has some sort of inwards curve that isn't really there.
File:VW Touran TDI front-1.JPG is used in the first-generation infobox and has some more serious issues. It depicts a dark grey car against a mostly dark grey background, which makes it even harder to discern the car's shape than in the above image and should probably be changed if a better image is available per both
MOS:ACCESS and
WP:CARPIX. The reflections in the windows and the paintwork are relatively complex and also create a distracting effect. On a technical level the photograph is otherwise very competent, fully in focus and everything else it needs to be.
File:Volkswagen Touran diesel registered July 2017 1968cc.jpg is used in the second-generation infobox. It lacks the issues with the car's colour blending with the background, but the photograph is not taken from quite as optimal an angle (again referring to
WP:CARPIX) and the background itself is relatively complex, with people, trees, and another car all also in the shot. The lighting is more distracting here, with a lot of sunlight glare on the headlamps, and the focus is noticeably somewhat soft, even in thumbnail form. The number plate has not been censored in this image.
All three of these images are good enough to be usable should another higher quality image not be available, but I believe it is worth surveying other images of the Touran available on Commons.
File:VW Touran Facelift II 1.4 TSI Comfortline Silverleaf.JPG depicts the facelifted version of the first-generation model, and has only one real flaw: Namely that the car's paint is similar in colour to much of the background. The focus on the rear of the car is a bit soft when viewed at high-resolution, but it's nowhere near enough to be an issue and the image is primarily meant to show what the front of the car looks like.
File:VW CrossTouran 1.4 TSI Reflexsilber.JPG depicts a first-generation model that for some reason has been fitted with black plastic wheelarches. Assuming this isn't an aftermarket modification, the issues with this image are similar to the previous one, although possibly slightly worse given the lighting is less even and the colour is even closer to the background.
File:Volkswagen Touran facelift II (side).JPG is more of a side-profile than a front-three-quarter view, and the white paint colour kind of blends in with the building in the background. I'm also not sure if the wheels are factory-originals or some sort of aftermarket parts.
File:VW CrossTouran.JPG again depicts a first-generation Touran with possible aftermarket modifications, particularly the wheels. The background is also rather cluttered but the car's paintwork does not blend into it and the lighting is not distracting. Arguably this is more of a front view than a front-three-quarter view, so that may also render it less optimal.
File:Volkswagen Golf Touran GLi.jpg depicts a first-generation Touran from a slightly low angle, and has a mildly distracting background, but it contrasts well against the car's paint colour. The reflection of another car on the side is potentially distracting, though not as much as in some other images. The wind deflectors on the doors may be aftermarket modifications.
File:VW Touran Highline Black Style.jpg is a very high-quality candidate, with the glaring exception of the big Volkswagen sign being reflected in the windscreen and bonnet, which could be interpreted as advertising if used in a Wikipedia article. The background could be less messy but contrasts very well with the car, which other than the aforementioned reflection has been shot in neutral lighting and is in reasonably sharp focus. Without the big VW logo reflected in the windscreen I probably wouldn't even consider the other candidates and would just immediately
WP:BOLDly change the infobox to use this image, but given that issue exists I would prefer other editors give feedback on the available images.
