Good to see some sources at last. That first Google Search result ref, however, won't open for me. I think it would probably be best if they could all be converted to full primary refs? (Assuming the first is kosher too.) But something more like a fully-accessible on-line WP:RS would be more a lot more convincing? I wonder how they all line up. Thanks. It is being reported that Whitman has died. There is some skepticism since there was a hoax a little while back, but there is a news report here. To further complicate matters there is also a en.mediamass.net/people/slim-whitman/highest-paid.html hoax story today about his earnings. More reliable sources should be found. Re this edit, now made by the anon IP three times, I think the original version is better. Any other views? Thanks. Martinevans123 ( talk) 15:50, 6 October 2017 (UTC)

Of more note might be the claim that Whitman "headlined Elvis Presley's first public performance on July 30, 1954 at the Overton Park (now Levitt) Shell: [1]? If they did tour it would seem likel;y that Elvis opened for Whitman, and not the other way round? But if anything is to be included in the article, then it can't just be in the lead section.
