Is there a particular reason this city is the main article? It doesn't seem to me that when I search for Newport I should be taken to any other page first but this article page. Awotter 01:09, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
To clarify things, I added to the article the fact that the main article refers to the city in the area of Gwent in Wales. This avoids confusion with Newport, Pembrokeshire, Wales, and compensates for the fact that Newport is its own "county" by using the preserved county. I'm used to thinking of the place as "Newport (Gwent)", which is the name its rail station is given so as to avoid confusion with Newport, Essex. AndyKali ( talk) 07:02, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

I came here after seeing a TV reference to Newport in the Isle of Wight (England). This is not just a (former) Parliamentary constituency, as implied in the article at present, but the main town in the Isle. There are evidently also other places called Newport apart from the best known ones in South Wales and Rhode Island. For the purposes of disambiguation, I suggest it would be useful for the opening section to list as many as possible of the places called Newport, with links to relevant articles where they exist. 109.150.72.36 ( talk) 23:33, 27 September 2016 (UTC)
Does anyone know why Newport, Mississippi has a "see Mississippi Highway 3"? The Newport I am familiar with sits at an intersection of Mississippi Highway 14 and Mississippi Highway 429, east of I-55 and Highway 3 is on the west side. -- Otr500 ( talk) 20:47, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
