[1] says the rank of 10th dan was awarded unofficially to Michio Hikitsuchi.
Does anyone know the details? -- zeno 10:13, 26 July 2005 (UTC)

The article doesn't make it clear to me whether Hikitsuchi sensei is a part of the Aikikai or not. / Habj 05:07, 27 December 2005 (UTC) Hikitsuchi Sensei is a member of Aikikai (before your death). After your death, the main teacher of Kumano Juku Dojo is Motomichi Anno, 8th Dan.
Perhaps at some level of "officialness" Hikitsuchi Sensei and his dojo belong(ed) to the Aikikai, however it is my experience (an unpleasant experience to say the least) that they have a very adversarial attitude toward Hombu and those who are associated with the greater organization. During my visit there Sensei was ever gracious, but I was treated by almost everyone else in the dojo (including some high-ranking foreigners) with a level of naked contempt that would probably shock most people reading this - even to my face. To say that they treated me like an enemy is not an exaggeration. This in spite of the fact that I had come based on an introduction from an old friend of Sensei's (it's possible that Sensei neglected to mention this to anyone). I fear that many non-Japanese who are followers of Hikitsuchi and members of that organization have no idea that outsiders are treated this way. To be fair, that was close on 10 years ago. I certainly hope things have changed at Kumano Juku since then. Djiann 23:46, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
