Presidents who became prisoners was proposed for deletion. This page is an archive of the discussion about the proposed deletion. This page is no longer live. Further comments should be made on the article's talk page rather than here so that this page is preserved as an historic record. The result of the debate was MOVE AND KEEP
So what? I.e., would anyone look this up as a group, as opposed to wanting to know in some individual case? — Bill 22:07, 25 Oct 2004 (UTC)
This page is now preserved as an archive of the debate and, like other '/delete' pages is no longer 'live'. Subsequent comments on the issue, the deletion or on the decision-making process should be placed on the relevant 'live' pages. Please do not edit this page.
Mussolini was Head of Government, but King Emmanuel remained as Head of State. So I removed Mussolini

Should we add a list of heads of state who were imprisoned earlier? Examples of my proposal includes Nelson Mandela and Chen Shui-bian as they were imprisoned before becoming heads of state.-- Jusjih 16:45, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
I think it might be better to change the title to List of heads of regimes who were later imprisoned to make it more broad based. It would then be possible to include names of Presidents, Monarchs and Prime Ministers or other equivalent designations, for all time, and not merely the 20th century. User:LordGulliverofGalben
As this list was out of definite order in any way, I just alphabetized it with consideration of different orders of surnames first and given names first. However, feel free to change as needed even though I have tried to check everything.-- Jusjih 17:52, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
Since this is only a list, maybe it doesn't need documentation here, but if a name belongs on this list, the corresponding Wikipedia article needs to state that the person was imprisoned (and that fact, of course, needs references). For example, the Gorbachev and Khrushchev articles don't say that they were imprisoned after their rule, and I don't think they really were. Mdmcginn 17:00, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

thank you, but just because some were not convited or later acquitted, it does not necessarily mean they were not imprisoned...so re-add anyone who you deleted in this manner, other wise I have to undo your precious edits...( KIENGIR ( talk) 17:51, 21 June 2020 (UTC))
I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of List of heads of government who were later imprisoned's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

As the page lists both heads of state and heads of government, we should rename the page to "List of heads of state & government who were later imprisoned", or if we add leaders who were imprisoned before taking office, just "List of heads of state & government who were imprisoned". Quite the rogues gallery but there are a few problems. Nicola Sturgeon was arrested but not charged. If she is to be included, Donald Trump should be also. Burke and O'Connor were first ministers in state governments. If heads of sub-governments are to be included, the list is going to be several times longer. E.g. Rob Blagojevich, former governor of Illinois. WmDKing ( talk) 08:47, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
