The following is a closed discussion of a
requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a
move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: no consensus to move, and after three relists, it doesn't seem as though consensus is going to get any clearer. (
non-admin closure)

Linga (disambiguation) → Linga – Move over the redirect which currently targets
Lingam. I'm not convinced that the alternative form for "
Lingam" is the primary topic for "Linga" which has a number of other uses.

Support this is indeed something I've wandered myself given the existence of the Scottish islands a species (which was primary on Commons until I moved it). Crouch, Swale (

Weak support per the evidence presented below by JHunterJ. Crouch, Swale (

Oppose. "Not convinced" and "I've wondered myself" aren't criteria, and the other supports are
WP:PERNOM,
WP:EVERYONEELSE,
WP:VAGUEWAVE.
massviews indicate the current arrangement is correct. Note that if the page is moved, there are 256 incoming wikilinks that the closing admin is expected to fix. --

JHunterJ: Massviews does not show that the current arrangement is correct. It shows that of all the entries on the list,
Lingam is the most popular page. It does not show that
Lingam is the most popular (or significant) use of "Linga".

We may disagree on how much it illustrates, but the proposal and supports here have not illustrated even that much, however much it is. --

Lingam gets 38,922 views but the others get 5,239[

[3]]. Also note that not everyone who lands incorrectly necessarily goes to the DAB, some go back to the search box or Google etc. Google, Images and Books do mainly return results for object but seem to often use a prefix or suffix, I still weakly agree that for "Linga" there's no clear primary topic but there might still be by PT#2. Linga (disambiguation) gets 1/10th as many views as
Linga, but in my experience such a ratio does not demonstrate a clear primary topic, and more often that not it's actually indicative of the absence of one (if that sounds surprising, see
Wikipedia:Pageviews and primary topics and its talk page). Also clarifying that the closer is
not expected to fix dablinks (though of course they're welcome to help). –

Oppose per JHunterJ, Lingam is a clear primary topic in terms of mass views. Lingam also has long-term significance. --

Remember we're discussing the primary topic for "Linga" not "Lingam". "Linga" in terms of the islands means "Heather island". Crouch, Swale (

But linga is a very common name for the symbol, probably almost as common as lingam. –
Uanfala (talk) 22:17, 2 September 2020 (UTC)reply
Oppose. Just perusing the usage within
Lingam indicates how much Linga is used to refer to that topic. So the current PRIMARYREDIRECT makes sense. Also per
JHunterJ and
Ab207 and nothing persuasive in Support. —
