A sentence reads "There were 3000 traffic accidents and 1000 serious crimes such as rape, homicide, child sexual abuse and robbery caused by US servicemen and suffered by Okinawan civilians each year until 1972." I suspect that this is wrong. It gives an uncheckable (print) reference as a source. I suspect that this is a cumulative figure from 1972. Today there are about 30,000 servicemen on the island. 3,000 traffic accidents a year would mean 1 out of every ten servicemen had a reportable accident each year, a preposterously high figure. The felony figure would give the island one of the highest crime rates in the world, and the subject of many headlines, not just in local Communist-sympathetic newspapers. We need a verification of this reference. The way that it is stated makes the source itself a bit suspect and possibly, not WP:RELY. Student7 ( talk) 00:10, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
It seems to be all over the place in this article. I'm not sure which one is to be followed. Suggestions? 86.121.18.17 ( talk) 15:40, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
