Was he a prince of the Holy Roman Empire?

From reading the article, I see he was not a bishop but a bishop-elect and that he "was dismissed by the cathedral chapter in 1288". So what was he between 1267 and 1288. A Catholic bishop can not be dismissed by a cathedral chapter and a someone with imperial authority could not, likewise, be dismissed by a cathedral chapter. What I don't see is whether he was a secular Prince of the Holy Roman Empire or an independent leader. — BoBoMisiu ( talk) 15:37, 6 October 2014 (UTC) reply

John was not deposed by the cathedral chapter in 1288, but he was deposed by the Pope in 1290. Although never ordained as bishop, John was a prince of the Holy Roman Empire as he was de facto accepted by the German kings. -- Royalty & Nassau Expert ( talk) 19:40, 10 October 2019 (UTC) reply
