I added the reference to DEC's April 1st technical note from 1989 - the first instance that I'm aware of that documents this effect. — Preceding

There exist two images for this topic, the first was undeleted at DRV (the 2011 deletion rationale found to no longer apply) and the second was found and uploaded today:
