A similar recipe to Scandinavian "herring salad"?

This recipe sounds a lot like the "herring salad" ("sildesalat") served in Scandinavia.

In Denmark: Sildesalat
In Finland: Rosolli
In Norway: Sildesalat
In Sweden: Sillsallad

These are also a mixture of diced herring (though usually pickled, rather than salted), mayonnaise and various colourful vegetables.

As far as I understand, the difference is that dressed herring is always a layer salad, while in the herring salad the components are just mixed. For a simple mixture of such components, the Russians have another salad, called Vinegret. -- Off-shell ( talk) 09:13, 31 December 2013 (UTC) reply
A note: vinegret usually goes without herrings. Scandinavian salad indeed is quite close to the Russian one described in the article, but not layered indeed 2003:E0:E72E:D300:2CA1:9223:ED67:C716 ( talk) 14:03, 4 December 2023 (UTC) reply

Reduction to a single-word name (Shuba) - 46.173.12.68 ( talk) 16:11, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

The reduction indicates that different types of pickled fish can be "dressed". Occasionally, the salad is decorated with halves of hard-boiled quail eggs.

This is from my personal experience, hence putting it in "talk" rather than adding as an edit.
