This article was the subject of an
educational assignment in 2014 Q1. Further details were available on the "Education Program:University of Michigan/SI 110: Introduction to Information (Winter 2014)" page, which is now unavailable on the wiki.
I have been editing Wikipedia articles off and on for about ten years, and I am shocked to discover that there has been practically no substantive updates to this page (a seemingly important one for a digital encyclopedia) for nearly that entire time. Almost no edits at all except robot changes. The main sources of industry statistics cited are from 2013. Social media (as a conduit for creating and propagating digital content) is not mentioned at all.
Many other Wikipedia pages on digital communication, digital commerce, internet industry, technological developments in artificial intelligence, etc, are also five or more years beyond their last meaningful updates.
There must be thousands if not millions of Wiki editors with greater expertise on these subjects than I. Where have they been? Where are the priorities of the top managers?
