I think that a minority of the fans of the TV programme Doctor Who have done serious damage to many actors' articles on Wikipedia. Is Michael Gough most famous for a role in four episodes of Doctor Who in 1966? Was this one of the pinnacles of his career and what people still remember him for? Outside of serious Doctor Who fans, I don't think so. However this is what you would think from the Deaths in 2011 page. Of course this is referenced by an obituary column from the BBC website, most likely written by a journalist who has researched Michael Gough from his Wikipedia article. I am a Doctor Who fan and have watched the programme for over thirty years. But I am getting mightily fed up with seeing actors' articles where their fleeting appearance in Doctor Who, sometimes even just in a comedy sketch or audio book, is treated in the article like one of their life's great achievements. rrsmac ( talk) 1.30am GMT 18 March 2011.

I realize that she has the title "Dame", and it's proper to put it in the main article, as it is relevant information, and anybody seeing it there has already found who they are looking for. Having it in the death index could be confusing to somebody searching for Ms. Taylor who isn't using a text-search function. It would be better, in my opinion, to leave it out of the index itself. Tom Barrister 23:03, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
I really do not get why the title Dame keeps getting removed and restored in the Elizabeth Taylor's entry. Of course the title is relevant and is included in the article. However, whenever a titled individual dies, their title has traditionally been included, i.e. Msgr, Bishop, Sir, Dame, Prince, Princess, Count, etc. If the rules have been changed so be it but that does not appear to be the case. When other Dames (DBEs) have passed on (i.e. Beryl Bainbridge, Patricia Bergquist, etc.) died their titles were included. Let's have some clarification from an admin.

Your argument includes clergy, who are commonly referred to by their titles. The others weren't high-profile actors/actresses who were more commonly known by their screen names. Nor are all titled celebrities listed by their titles. For example, check the Wikipedia articles for Laurence Oliver. Titling everybody makes about as much sense as prefixing everybody's name with "Mr." "Mrs.", "Ms.", etc. If the title must be included in the death index, it should be at the end of the name, as it is, for example, with Agatha Christie.Tom Barrister 10:36, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
I guess those who are the most persistent will get their way. I find it absurd that she's referred to in the death notice as "Dame". I can't find a single newspaper headline outside of the United Kingdom that reads "Dame Elizabeth Taylor" etc. She was known to 99% of the world outside of the United Kingdom as "Elizabeth Taylor" or possibly "Liz Taylor". However, since the power-that-is (ms125a@hotmail.com) seems to have made it a career to keep the "Dame" title in, that's fine with me. But it still isn't correct, in my opinion.
