Do you think merging Carol Bowman in the book's article would be a better idea? I can't say I really evaluated the author's notability, but the AFD results for the book article were not that convincing. —

Agree there is so little independent sourcing about the author and the book, that only one article is needed. A quick search shows Publishers Weekly, Robert Todd Carroll, and
this, and perhaps one other I missed. FWIW, I noticed they all focused on the book, rather than the author. -

I tend to agree with the dog. A BLP article with a section on the book is more useful/readable than a book article with a BLP section shoehorned into it. -
