I'm removing the section about what he keeps on his night table. It's frankly embarrassing to see something that self-celebratory in Wikipedia, and neither Mr. Viola nor probably anyone intimately familiar with his bedroom should be editing this page. Msalt ( talk) 22:33, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
I've added a sourced line to the lede and removed the unsourced one. Given Bill Viola's place in the history of electronic media I realize my addition somewhat understates his position in the art world and is a step down from the sentence I removed . I hope to do some work on this article and hopefully can add material that will explain Viola's position without becoming grandiose in any way.( olive ( talk) 19:39, 25 February 2009 (UTC))
I believe that more clarification or supporting references are needed in this section. I feel that much confusion can be generated by your statement, "...This form of data structure pertains to pure or mostly randomness." You have not, in this subheading, explained what you mean by "randomness," let alone "pure randomness." You even continue on to end this section with the sentence, "All randomness." This extremely short sentence only adds to the confusion of what has failed to be mentioned beforehand. Please clarify these claims. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RazorXX8 ( talk • contribs) 06:33, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
This section, while being useful, as a whole it is almost entirely opinion, and unreferenced. While I think it important to have section which provides a critical context, I recommend the section as it is be removed and completely re-written, with ciritical discussion of his work only coming from referenced academic sources, such as the various histories of video art that include discussion of Viola's work - of which there are several, not to mention the plethora of academic papers. We shouldn't have unreferenced opinion here, no matter how insightful. Will anyone attempt this? I'll have a crack at it myself, if in a few weeks time if no-one else has, and if there are no objections. Levcampbell ( talk) 13:00, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

At least one major contributor to this article appears to have a close personal or professional connection to the topic, and thus to have a conflict of interest. Conflict-of-interest editors are strongly discouraged from editing the article directly, but are always welcome to propose changes on the talk page (i.e., here). You can attract the attention of other editors by putting {{ request edit}} (exactly so, with the curly parentheses) at the beginning of your request, or by clicking the link on the lowest yellow notice above. Requests that are not supported by independent reliable sources are unlikely to be accepted.
Please also note that our Terms of Use state that "you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation." An editor who contributes as part of his or her paid employment is required to disclose that fact.
Note: while this is phrased in general terms, I've placed it here for the particular attention of anyone representing or connected with Blain Southern, whose relentless self-promotion in this project really needs to stop (or be stopped). Justlettersandnumbers ( talk) 21:49, 6 December 2017 (UTC)
