I previously thought not and reverted one addition. But given that it is world-wide news, and is now on the Main page of en.wiki, I think it is also a very notable event.

I just removed it from the "Events" section before reading this. The item for inclusion is a death, not an event. We have a section for deaths, which is where it belongs. It doesn't matter how newsworthy it is.
