Football World Cup 1998 → 1998 FIFA World Cup – following the consensus of naming the World Cup articles as FIFA World Cup in Wikipedia, and consistency of naming the major international football tournaments.
Discuss here: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Competitions#Requested move of Football World Cup articles. -- Pkchan 10:35, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
Do we need the line or two about Michael Owen in the intro? After all, there were many great goals in '98 (a Dutch one springs to mind), and entire teams worth of players made their world cup debut. Fine player he is, Owen has hardly had the world cup impact of a Maradona or Garrincha. A.J.W
I think the comment about Owen should be there. That goal was the best goal of the tournament. It grabbed the attention of every football team in that tournament. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.4.227.114 ( talk) 12:07, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
Forgive me for being a bit confused here -- why are there no match reports for the Round of 16? TheProject 03:53, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
FIFA Fair Play Trophy lists England and France as winners of this award. "The FIFA Fair Play Trophy is given to the team with the best record of fair play during the World Cup final tournament. Only teams that qualified for the second round are considered."
Looks like all the match reports at Yahoo are gone. Currently searching for an adequate replacement - BBC seems patchy.-- 82.15.46.131 19:09, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

On 4th June 2015 Chuck Blazer while co-operating with the FBI and the Swiss authorities admitted that he and the other members of FIFA's executive committee were bribed in order to promote the South African, 1998 and 2010 World Cups. Hi everyone.
As we approach yet another WC tournament, I believe that now is an appropriate time to revisit some key issues (at least IMHO).
I know that this is not the first conversation about this, but I'm trying to resurrect the List of 1998 and 2002 Fifa World Cup controversies articles.
Those of you who followed the process will remember the 2002 article was the subject of two deletion debates, and then closed down and SALTed. Since I believe that controversial incidents are a window into the development and evolution of the game. I hope as many of you as possible will join me in this effort.
Regards.

Fomalhaut76, South Africa, Jamaica and Japan did not even make it to the round of 16, far less the finals, which is between two teams, so the four you seem to believe were in the finals for the first time clearly could not have been. Croatia was knocked out in the semi-finals. My version my be wrong, but yours is comprehensively wrong in all details. Perhaps you care enough to fix it, or you could just delete the erroneous statement. Cheers, · · ·
