One of the entries for yesterday (13th of October) states the following: "Rare anti-government protests occur in Beijing <...>". Rare in this context may mean "infrequently occurring" or "sparse and/or small", and it's unclear which one that is here. Unfortunately, I am unable to check the cited source due to being in a country that blocks BBC news, so could someone reword that entry to be less ambiguous?

@ Benjamin.haley: The coverage of news on Wikipedia is an eclectic cross between elections, sports, awards, corruption, disasters, mass murder, and more mass murder (war). This is a problem for a couple of reasons. One, the good things in the world aren't being covered here in the ratio that they exist in contrast with the bad. Two, the biggest crises aren't being covered adequately, so even the bad news is tilted towards a certain level of bad news: mostly local disasters and killings. But, the world is in the middle of ongoing existential crises that affect everyone, and that are not being monitored here effectively. Aside from the ongoing nuclear arms risk, there's: world overpopulation and its continued increase, ongoing world overconsumption and the resultant human impacts upon the environment (natural habitat fragmentation and destruction, biodiversity decrease, mass extinction, etc.), ongoing climate change (rising ocean acidity, temperatures, and sea level, etc.). And ongoing rapid development of general purpose AI and a possible resultant trajectory toward general AI. Where is the ongoing coverage of those? — The Transhumanist 01:06, 21 July 2023 (UTC)

It places the blame on Canada instead of India, as if assassination is okay, but accusing them is not. I would think the assassination is the cause of the crisis. Tanath ( talk) 19:06, 23 September 2023 (UTC)
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has today informed parliament that the Canadian national security apparatus has reason to believe that "agents of the Indian government" perpetrated the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/trudeau-indian-government-nijjar-1.6970498. Of course, we can expect the story to evolve over time but this seems to be a quite notable development worth mentioning here in the Current Events page. I don't know if this should go under the "International relations" heading or the "Law and crime" heading and I do not seem to have permission to edit the page so I'll leave it up to the discretion of somebody with that power to first determine if this is significant enough to warrant mention and, should they deem it significant enough to mention, which heading it would go under. Live blog usage has been normalized for a long time on the Current Events Portal. This includes especially live blogs to CNN, BBC, and yes, Al Jazeera as well. This has frequently included stories that do not get their own dedicated article page. The usage being a live blog and/or without a dedicated article page of its own has been disproportionately used to remove Al Jazeera headlines. Even though Al Jazeera English and the related English-language AlJazeera.com have plenty of editors' voices to express the reasons why it is continuing to be used the way it has been here at WP:RSN, and recent edits continue to use BBC live blog that amusingly "according to the Al Jazeera news network." itself directly is relying on Al Jazeera's reporting, helping to show the enduring secondary source reputability being established. Please, please do not remove headlines purely for the reason that they are headlines sourced from Al Jazeera's live blog, because Al Jazeera English and AlJazeera.com are reliable sources, internationally award-winning for reporting on the exact contentious subject of the Arab-Israeli conflict in disputed Palestine. Sumstream ( talk) 03:26, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
There should maybe be a consideration if there's enough consensus to just start avoiding the use of "War crimes in the 2023 Israel–Hamas war" header because of how it incentivizes gaming whether or not play-by-play back and forth events if each one is evaluated as being considered a war crime or not by Wikipedia's editors, which seems problematic and against the spirit of the discretionary sanctions on the Israeli-Palestinian and Arab-Israeli conflicts. I've already seen what seems to me to be worrying trends toward arms races of pushing stories in and out of the "War Crimes" grouping to control which events are being called war crimes in this hotly contested and developing scenario... I do think war crimes are being committed but a lot is going on and I don't think we can all keep up with it to the level of very careful accuracy that it should be at this time... but that's just my one opinion so far, not trying to be disruptive or anything. I removed this entry earlier on the basis of WP:SENSATIONAL earlier. The entry was restored without discussion by the OP. Should this be included?
This appears to be a standard speech where an elected official makes typical claims about the current geopolitical climate and criticizes their political opponents. This situation is exacerbated in this case as the official is essentially making remarks with the aim of discrediting a recently elected official.
The OP made the following justifcation when reverting:
It appears that there is a clear misunderstanding of notability in this case. Routine activities, such as statements made by a head of state, are typically not included as they do not meet the criteria for notability. 33ABGirl ( talk) 14:59, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
isnt it an issue to citate stories which are behind paywalls? the BBC for instance is used a lot, however clicking on some of their links from the uk without a tv licence can end us up in court. Ive seen other stories also with sources only viewable if you signup or subscribe / pay to access. Surely we can use sources that are free? its like this site is now useful only to the rich and mega corporations, as one of the main sites in the world, its clearly making the world worse overall by closing down to a few verified sources & focusing on specific stories even when worse or more important stories occur. Surely someone will no doubt come back with a link to wikipedias rules or whatever but my point is the rules clearly suck & the site is wrecking the world, making the rich richer & the poor poorer — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.17.4.48 ( talk) 23:28, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

The news reads "US condemns French ban on Abaya.(Al Arabiya)". However, it is not the abaya that was banned, but wearing the abaya (or qami) in public schools. I feel this may misinform some readers. 37.171.173.57 ( talk) 14:33, 24 September 2023 (UTC)
Isn't this biased wording?
> Canada accuses India of being linked to the killing of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada, causing a diplomatic crisis.
