Based on a US Congress amendment passed on June 1, 1954, this is the first observance of "
Veterans Day", replacing the name "Armistice Day" in the United States. President Dwight D. Eisenhower issued a proclamation in October 1954 acknowledging that the United States had been engaged in two wars since Armistice Day was first observed.
The
