Hi. I have a current
request for bot approval open, requesting authorisation to migrate {{
needs football biography infobox}}
to parameters in {{
WPBiography}}
and {{
Football}}
. A couple of questions...
Firstly, would it be useful for the bot to simultaneously fill in the class= field in {{
Football}}
, copying it from other such fields on the page?
Secondly, the bot will attempt to detect the presence of an infobox on the corresponding article page. If it does find an existing infobox, should it delete {{
needs football biography infobox}}
or list the page for review?
Thanks for your help!

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows ( full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.
If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to
report bugs and
request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a
"news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none
parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at
Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

At new article patrol, I have noticed in recent days that editor Redefining history has been creating several articles/templates on professional "DotA" players. As this is being called "electronic sports", I assume that it falls within the purview of this project. Knowing next to nothing of this stuff, I find these articles completely incomprehensible (which is not what an encyclopedia is for, I think). I think that, all articles about baseball pitchers should have WHIP on the infoboxes. Also basic statistics during their professional baseball career should be included just like Japanese Wikipedia does (see ja:則本昂大 for example), since by doing so readers do not have to take time reading statistics posted on external websites (e.g. MLB or ESPN) to know a pitcher's ERA or WHIP in a particular year. I tried to cleanup the whatever links I could find, but some of the older The Irish Times articles require a subscription to access. So, I'm wondering if anyone in WP:IE can access them and either fix the bare URLs themselves or post them on Talk:Oliver Byrne for me. Also, I tried cleaning up the article a bit, but I'm not too familiar with Byrne or Irish soccer. The article sort of reads like a rap sheet by focusing on his legal problems, so I think it could do with a bit of reorganizing, balancing and expanding. Byrne seems to have been notable enough and successful enough so that there should be more to add about his accomplishments in Irish soccer or his personal life. User:Kevin_McE is wholly invested in removing the entry Colin_Jackson from the appropriate LGBT sportspeople categories, using what I can only describe as a nonsensical argument that Jackson doesn't belong in the category because he's identifying as gay is irrelevant to his public life - despite the fact that he's come out and did so in a public venue (on TV no less). Jackson previously denied being gay, and the entry has covered his denial for years. It makes sense that it must now acknowledge his admission. Kevin insists on not accepting that point. Can you all please add your two cents on the Talk Page to the entry? Thanks. Rafe87 ( talk) 16:04, 31 August 2017 (UTC)

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.
We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma ( talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

Medal record

At the end of each ski world cup competition, the first three athletes are awarded. Ok, no medals are awarded, but the placements in the top three are considered podiums in careers. Ok the "medal count" template speaks of "medals" and in the World Cup medals are not awarded to the first three as in the Olympics or the World Cup, but the count of podiums in the world cup would be useful information, as it is in other Wikipedia like the German one. Do not tell me that the infobox already contains the information of podiums and victories, because it does not contain the details. So I ask what harm it would be to put this additional information in the infobox since it is almost never in the body of the athletes article? -- Kasper2006 ( talk) 17:46, 6 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi. I have a current
request for bot approval open, requesting authorisation to migrate {{
needs football biography infobox}}
to parameters in {{
WPBiography}}
and {{
Football}}
. A couple of questions...
Firstly, would it be useful for the bot to simultaneously fill in the class= field in {{
Football}}
, copying it from other such fields on the page?
Secondly, the bot will attempt to detect the presence of an infobox on the corresponding article page. If it does find an existing infobox, should it delete {{
needs football biography infobox}}
or list the page for review?

I came across Oliver Byrne while working off Category:Articles needing link rot cleanup. I just can't seem to find sources that I can access. Thanks in advance. - Marchjuly ( talk) 05:42, 9 October 2015 (UTC)

There is an RFC relevant to this project regarding the use of personal blogs and fansites in cuesport articles, mainly to source sporting statistics on a large numbers of articles (i.e. hundreds). Of particular interest is whether BLPSPS applies to simple sporting stats i.e. would using a fan blog to source somebody's prize money be a problem down the line in a GA review? The RFC is at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Snooker#RfC: Does the use of self-published sources in snooker articles violate BLPSPS and SPS?. Betty Logan ( talk) 07:28, 11 January 2016 (UTC)

I do realize that your WikiProject does not have this article at GA-class, but rather as an A-class article, an even higher standard. This strikes me as all the more reason for it to need your attention, since there are several dozen "citation needed" tags in the article, and other issues that have accreted since it was reviewed and made an A-class article in 2007; I very much doubt it meets A-class requirements at the present moment. Can someone who knows rugby improve this a bit? I can revert the latest IP edit for being unverified--but the whole article is a mess anyway. Thanks, Drmies ( talk) 15:58, 3 January 2022 (UTC)

|

Hello. This title redirects to Marlon, a name list article. There are about 18 articles that link to this redirect-to-a-disambiguation-page, most of them being sports biographies. Thought I would bring this to your attention in case anyone wanted to take on this relatively small wiki-link repair activity. Thanks. --User:Ceyockey ( talk to me) 18:46, 3 September 2022 (UTC)
