I am looking for brainstorming assistance revolving around improving disambiguation in Wikipedia (for contributors, readers, software developers, etc).
I have started a list at Wikipedia:WikiProject Disambiguation/Feature requests.
The purpose is getting better disambiguation tools and policies (eg through Community Wishlist Surveys), and who better to ask than the members of this project!
Any help in growing the list would be appreciated. Commander Keane ( talk) 02:57, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
I did some work on fixing disambiguation links 5-10 years ago, but have gotten back into it in the past couple of weeks, and am trying to update the monthly list as I go (please feel free to let me know if I'm screwing something up on that list or in general - I try to only make edits that seem "clear" to me, but I could always be missing something).
I noticed that 1945 tornado outbreak (disambiguation) was on the March list here, but doesn't show up on the external monthly challenge list. My assumption was that that meant that the links had been fixed by someone not involved in the project here. However, the page does show up on the main external list. Does that mean that there were links to it as of February 29 which then got fixed (to take the page off the challenge list) and later reintroduced (to show up on the main list currently)? If I fixed the links, would I then move them to the "done" section on the wikiproject like a regular fix?
(as a sidenote, I'm not sure what to do with this particular example - it seems like it might be appropriate for these infoboxes to go to the disambiguation page unless/until a full "Tornadoes of 1945" article is written? So the redirect could maybe be hardcoded as (disambiguation) to keep it off the list here? I was just going to leave them alone until I looked at the lists and got a bit confused/intrigued.) Is there any way to mark these? I.e. the muslim name Abd al-Rahman and its redirects have a large number of links that should go to specific people with the name. I tried posting at Wikipedia:WikiProject Bluelink patrol but that seems to be a one-person project and I got no response. * Pppery * it has begun... 18:59, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
Could someone who is good with templates take a look at a template labelled, on 20+ pages, as "Extrajudicial killings in the World". When you try to view or edit the link goes to Template:World topic. It links to several dab pages & several link to "Extrajudicial killing#country name" which are circular links. Help appreciated.— Rod talk 08:27, 3 June 2024 (UTC)
{{
World topic|prefix=Extrajudicial killings in}}
, so the VTE links go to the right template. (
Extrajudicial killings in the World redirects there, presumably due to the rarity of extrajudicial killings in space.) I'm not sure how useful this navbox is. We have no actual articles called
Extrajudicial killings in Fooland, the nearest being
Extrajudicial killings and forced disappearances in the Philippines. Most entries are redlinks. As you say, the rest are dabs or redirects to sections, mainly to the one article
Extrajudicial killing#Fooland. We could simply remove the navbox.
