Last week's reportNext week's report

October starts with the most prevalent subject being the United States Supreme Court dispute (#2, #8, #13, #19, #20, #21) that dominated late September - a current Justice (#17) thankfully owes her entry for matters outside that. And if you though that wasn't aggressive enough, there was a MMA event (#25) that ended with the fighters (#5, #11) attacking\being attacked by people outside the ring, something you'd expect more from wrestling (#7). While on bad boys, the Report is topped by the solo movie of comics anti-hero Eddie Brock a.k.a. Venom - and yet the new release that brought in bonus entries was A Star Is Born (#3), with both stars (#10, #12), one of whom also directs, entering the list. India looked for Gandhi in his holiday (#6), a doctor when Google homaged him (#14) and an actor when his widow died (#22). Otherwise, Charles Aznavour (#16) joined the year's deaths (#4), Patrick Mahomes (#9) keeps winning, Banksy (#24) trolled an auction, Elon Musk (#18) continues to see negative repercussions of the joint he smoked, and readers sought more about a Netflix movie on wolf hunters (#23) and Forest Whitaker's brother (#15).

For the week of September 30 to October 6, 2018, the 25 most popular articles on Wikipedia, as determined from the WP:5000 report were:

Rank Article Class Views Image About
1 Venom (2018 film) 1,721,610 Spider-Man's sometimes evil, sometimes anti-heroic counterpart got his solo movie, though completely divorced from said hero as Sony Pictures still wants to make Webhead-related movies without needing to ask for Marvel Studios to help. Critics blasted Venom, though deeming it a bit watchable due to Tom Hardy's unhinged performance as Eddie Brock (and his superpowered dark side); audiences were more acceptive, and the movie made $200 million worldwide in a single weekend.
2 Brett Kavanaugh 1,456,383
In spite of the hearings regarding a sexual assault incident (#8), the Senate confirmed Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court by just two votes.
3 A Star Is Born (2018 film) 1,088,531 The other big release of the week, the fourth remake of a famous story of musicians falling in love and she rises to fame while he decays (though the first is about actors - sounds familiar? Curiously, the last one narrowly missed the list at #26). It finished as second in the box office behind our #1, but got much better reviews, being lauded as a possible award contender.
4 Deaths in 2018 714,104
" À Tout le Monde, à tous mes amis
Je vous aime, je dois partir
These are the last words I'll ever speak
And they'll set me free"
5 Khabib Nurmagomedov 677,003 The Russian UFC Lightweight Champion saw his title contested by former champion Conor McGregor (#11) in Las Vegas (#25), still won - but followed it by some violence off the octagon that made Dana White refuse to give him the belt back, fearing the crowd would pelt him with whatever they had on hand.
6 Mahatma Gandhi 659,348 Mohandas's birthday was on October 2, leading Indians to once again research the activist who inspired the Gandhi Jayanti holiday.
7 WWE Super Show-Down 625,858 One more WWE pantomime, only this time in Australia! Among the events of the night, Charlotte Flair (pictured) won the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship.
8 Christine Blasey Ford 625,685
The testimony of this college professor accusing Brett Kavanaugh (#2) of assaulting her back in high school inspired an FBI supplemental background investigation... without the statements by herself, Kavanaugh and dozens of other witnesses due to restrictions imposed by the White House. Go figure. Ford still doesn't want him impeached, hoping the mid-term elections elects mostly democrats.
9 Patrick Mahomes 541,537
The 2018 Kansas City Chiefs season so far has been a 5-0, so the quarterback responsible is at the center of attention.
10 Lady Gaga 493,663 Stefani Germanotta followed the steps of Janet Gaynor, Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand and got the lead role in A Star is Born (#3), with acclaim that must have satisfied a woman who once sung " I live for the applause".
11 Conor McGregor 492,589 Already stripped of the UFC title due to inactivity (as he took 2017 to look after his son and a brief boxing experiment), McGregor returned to the octagon (#25) and lost to the champion Khabib Nurmagomedov (#5). And while back in April McGregor attacked Nurmagomedov's bus in New York, this time he was the one being assaulted by the Russian's friends after the fight was over.
12 Bradley Cooper 483,928 A Star is Born (#3) was at a certain point to be directed by Clint Eastwood. Instead, it's the directorial debut of main actor Bradley Cooper, who had a successful collaboration with Eastwood once.
13 Susan Collins 481,444 Helping Brett Kavanaugh (#2) still join the Supreme Court is not going well for this Maine senator, who has seen her popularity drop, a crowdfunding raise millions to finance whoever might run against Collins in 2020, and vandals attacking her Wikipedia page.
14 Govindappa Venkataswamy 469,786 Thanks to Google and India celebrating the centennary of 'Dr. V', crowds went on to learn about the ophthamologist who restored eyesight to millions.
15 Kenn Whitaker 467,439 Surprisingly, Reddit had nothing to do with a sudden jolt of interest received by the brother of acclaimed actor Forest Whitaker (pictured), caused by the fact both look exactly alike.
16 Charles Aznavour 444,778 The French-Armenian singer once voted "Entertainer of the [20th] Century" died at the age of 94, leaving a great legacy behind.
17 Ruth Bader Ginsburg 442,812
Still very popular after 25 years in the Supreme Court, Justice Ginsburg had two films about her getting attention this week: documentary RBG is now on Hulu, while biopic On the Basis of Sex, starring Felicity Jones, saw its first trailer get released.
18 Elon Musk 440,361
I was gonna make some cars until I got high
I was gonna go to Mars, but then I got high
Shareholders are still mad and I know why
Because I Got High, because I got high, because I got high
19 List of Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States 417,461
A list that already had Ruth Bader Ginsburg (#17) now will, in spite of all controversy, include Brett Kavanaugh (#2).
20 Donald Trump 415,589 The Donald returns to our report for the first time since June, as he managed to get his Supreme Court nominee (#2) approved and mocked his accuser (#8)... while still having his boastful claims being laughed off by the UN General Assembly and his family's fiscal history being througly investigated.
21 Lindsey Graham 391,400 Along with helping Brett Kavanaugh (#2) still enter the Supreme Court, this South Carolina Senator is now turning his aim onto the Democrats who led to Christine Blasey Ford (#8) testifying against Kavanaugh. Yet another step in Graham leaving behind his fierce Trump (#20) opposition and just backing whatever he wants.
22 Raj Kapoor 382,304 Krishna Kapoor died at the age of 87, but given she doesn't have an article, the best Wikipedia had to offer for Indian readers was the one for her late husband, referred to as "the greatest showman of Hindi cinema".
23 Hold the Dark 379,123
Netflix released this book adaptation where Jeffrey Wright (pictured) plays a retired wolf hunter summoned to Alaska to hunt the pack blamed for three disappeared children.
24 Banksy 374,984 The mysterious British graffiti artist made another unexpected stunt like only he can do: a framed replica of his Balloon Girl piece (pictured) was sold for a record £1,042,000, only to then start self-destructing through a paper shredder hidden in the frame bottom.
25 UFC 229 366,033
As if the scheduled bouts of this mixed martial arts event weren't violent enough, as soon as the main card finished there were some deplorable scenes: Khabib Nurmagomedov (#8) climbed out of the octagon to go after Conor McGregor's (#11) coach, and Nurmagomedov's people in turned jumped in to punch the Irishman.
