IT'S COMING HOME (terms and conditions apply)

No surprise what the big news of the week is, with ten of the top 25 focusing on the FIFA World Cup, whether that's a look into the past, an eye on the future; or just keeping up with the current year, and the battle for supremacy between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, or the dramatic late change in the management of the Spain national football team.

Of course, there is other news, with both protagonists from the Kim – Trump summit making it into the list. There's a good number of films, with Hereditary topping the Wikipedia Box Office this week. There's tennis for people who prefer their sport to have a bit less contact; and there's some UFC for those who don't.

Also it turns out having our guy pretty much win the 2018 UEFA Champions League Final single-handedly doesn't give Wales an automatic wildcard spot, for some reason. Anyway, expect to see this staying at or near the top for the next few weeks, with host nation Russia getting us under way on 14 June with a 5-0 victory over Saudi Arabia. 2	Anthony Bourdain		1,799,523		American celebrity chef and TV personality Bourdain was found dead on June 8 at the age of 61, following a suicide. Bourdain was known for hosting food-and-travel shows such as A Cook's Tour, No Reservations and Parts Unknown.
3	Cristiano Ronaldo		1,213,959		On the second day of the 2018 FIFA World Cup all eyes were on Portuguese star Ronaldo – regarded as one of the best players in the world – as his side took on Spain. Ronaldo shone in the lime-light, scoring the fifty-first hat-trick in FIFA World Cup history, including a late free-kick to secure a draw between the two highly ranked teams.
4	Kim Jong-un		1,025,714		Kim, the Supreme Leader of North Korea, met with US President Trump in Singapore this week, (meeting pictured) the first such summit to take place between the North Korean and American leaders. Trump agreed to cease all US- South Korea military exercises; in exchange for North Korea pledging to denuclearization. Some have criticised the meeting, given North Korea's significant human rights violations; and it has been suggested that the US has got very little out of the meeting while handing Kim a PR boost. Others would argue that a chance of ensuring peace on the Korean Peninsula and the potential of expanded rights in a less-isolated North Korea would be worth any image issues.

6	Michael Peterson (murder suspect)		926,807		Peterson, a novelist convicted in 2003 of murdering his wife Kathleen Peterson and whose sentence was subsequently reduced to manslaughter in 2017; is the subject of the 2004 French documentary series The Staircase, which was released, including three new episodes, Netflix on June 8.
7	2026 FIFA World Cup		850,112		The 2026 FIFA World Cup – the first to feature an expanded field of 48 teams from the current 32 – will be held across Canada, Mexico and the United States, after the United bid beat a rival bid from Morocco in a vote take on 13 June.
8	Hereditary (film)		814,566		Toni Collette (pictured) stars in Hereditary, the feature film directing debut for Ari Aster. The supernatural horror film – released on June 8 in the US – has received positive reviews from critics, but a D+ grade from CinemaScore. The opening weekend gross of $13.6 million is the highest opening for a film distributed by A24.
9	Avengers: Infinity War		757,159		I wonder if the 2018 FIFA World Cup is being held within the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? I like to think it is, although some countries may have (spoiler alert) some selection problems, what with the end of this film and all.
10	List of FIFA World Cup finals		753,126		The 20th FIFA World Cup final ( 1950 didn't have a final) will be held at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on 15 July.

12	Lionel Messi		723,480		Following on from Cristiano Ronaldo's hat-trick (see #3), on the third day of the 2018 FIFA World Cup all eyes were on Argentine Messi – regarded as one of the best players in the world – as his side took on Iceland. Unlike Ronaldo, Messi did not perform to his usual standard, missing a penalty as his side could only draw with an unfancied Icelandic team.
13	Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom		716,857		The fifth instalment in the Jurassic Park franchise; starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Toby Jones, a returning Jeff Goldblum and Terry the T-Rex. The film is yet to be released in the United States, but has already made over $420m from worldwide box office, thus far the eighth highest-grossing film of 2018 and set to rise. A sequel is inevitable.
14	2014 FIFA World Cup		692,866		PREVIOUSLY ON FOOTBALL: Spain collapsed to the Dutch, England whimpered out in the groups, Portugal fell to the Germans. The Americans got their wall, Tim Krul made Costa Rica pay the penalty, and Brazil were Eins, zwei, drei, vier, thümped (,sechs, sieben...). In the end it was Mario Götze who got the winning goal for Germany in the final. Now, read on...
15	Rafael Nadal		667,695		It's not just the 2018 FIFA World Cup happening in sport; there's also tennis for people who like that sort of thing. This week saw the "King of Clay" live up to his title, winning the men's singles title at the 2018 French Open, beating Dominic Thiem in straight sets to lift the Coupe des Mousquetaires for the eleventh time (from fourteen attempts), his seventeenth Grand Slam tournament win in his career.
16	Incredibles 2		662,613		The follow-up to 2004's The Incredibles that no-one knew they needed, Pixar's tendency to mine its own back catalogue seems to have thrown up another success, with the superhero sequel soaring to a 94% Rotten Tomatoes rating and a box-office opening of $183.2m in the US – smashing Pixar's own record from Finding Dory for the best animated opening, and setting the eighth highest opening weekend of all time. 17	Pete Davidson		616,601		Pete Davidson, whose engagement to pop megastar Ariana Grande was announced this week, is an American actor best known as a regular cast member since 2014 of Saturday Night Live. He is not, to my disappointment, the former Doctor Who. Completely different people.
18	UFC 225		613,157		It's not just the 2018 FIFA World Cup happening in sport, part II: the 225th Ultimate Fighting Championship flagship event took place in Chicago, Illinois on June 9. The headline event saw Robert Whittaker (pictured) defeat Yoel Romero by split decision; although this does not count as a title defence for Middleweight Champion Whittaker, as was planned, with Romero ultimately coming in .2 lbs over the maximum middleweight weight.
19	Julen Lopetegui		559,574		Mainly it's the FIFA World Cup though. Lopetegui should have been leading the Spanish side to the tournament; however, on 12 June it was announced that following the tournament he would take over in charge of Spanish giants Real Madrid C.F.. A day later, with just two days before the first Spanish game, Lopetegui was abruptly dismissed from his national team job.
20	2018 FIFA World Cup qualification		548,713		The detailed overview of how your country made it to the 2018 FIFA World Cup or, alternatively, how they didn't. Useful if you are an incredibly petty person who has already decided to cheer against whoever knocked your country out.
21	Donald Trump		535,265		Two big stories this week from President Trump; the aforementioned summit with Kim Jong-Un, and news that the New York Attorney General had filed a lawsuit against his eponymous foundation, alleging "extensive unlawful political conduct" and naming President Trump and children Ivanka, Eric, and Donald Jr. directly in the suit.
22	2022 FIFA World Cup		530,225		This is the next one. It's gonna take place in Qatar, which lots of people aren't happy with, and is set to be held in winter rather than summer, which lots of people aren't happy with. If I may make an early prediction: This could be the tournament for Vanuatu to shine. It probably won't be but won't I look good if it is?
23	Singapore		514,531		The Capella Resort on the island city-state of Singapore played host to the historic summit between President Trump and Mr. Kim.
24	Ocean's 8		512,705		A female-led spin-off of the Ocean's trilogy, starring as the eponymous eight (deep breath) Sandra Bullock (pictured), Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, and Awkwafina. The heist movie has an approval of 66% on Rotten Tomatoes, and has thus far made a worldwide gross of $117.8m.
25	Eid al-Fitr		489,282		Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan and is thus an important religious festival for Muslims worldwide, was marked this month on 15 June.
