Crossfire (UK TV series)

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was keep. No one else opined on reverting the move at Crossfire (Grampian current affairs) so there's not really a consensus for it, however there's nothing stopping anyone from doing so in the spirit of WP:BRD. Legoktm ( talk) 02:40, 5 November 2022 (UTC) reply

These redirects should point to the same target and, likely be disambiguated using hatnotes. I'm unfamiliar with the topics, and would appreciate editors' assessments of which is primary. signed, Rosguill talk 23:55, 25 October 2022 (UTC) reply

  • Keep both. WP:NCTV#Television programming disagrees with the nominator's claim since one topic is considered a "series" and the other is considered a "programme". Probably best to hatnote each article (and possibly give Crossfire (Grampian current affairs) a name that's more in line with WP:NCTV in general.) Steel1943 ( talk) 01:09, 26 October 2022 (UTC) reply
@ Rosguill: Do you have a comment on this argument against the nomination? Jay 💬 11:20, 2 November 2022 (UTC) reply
Honestly, I'd never heard of the programme/series distinction before--not sure if that's because I don't watch much TV or if it's an English-variant thing. I still think that it's potentially a bit confusing to have the two terms side-by-side, pointing to different targets (whereas the NCTV guidance is more about the naming of individual pages, not handling cases of disambiguation between multiple pages), but am ok with deferring to others if they think it's fine, and I agree that the hatnote would help address the potential for confusion if the status quo or something similar to it is kept. signed, Rosguill talk 14:57, 2 November 2022 (UTC) reply
  • Move Crossfire (Grampian current affairs) to Crossfire (British TV programme), reverting an undiscussed move and bringing the title back in accordance with naming conventions. Keep Crossfire (UK TV series) per Steel1943. * Pppery * it has begun... 03:12, 29 October 2022 (UTC) reply

While one of its Latin names, Provincia Nostra, does literally mean "Our Province", I think it is extremely unlikely that anyone would be likely to search for it by that English name. Based on Google Scholar results, "Our Province" appears to be the name of a potentially-notable essay by John Strachan; as it's not mentioned there in detail, deletion seems like the most appropriate option. signed, Rosguill talk 23:35, 25 October 2022 (UTC) reply

I genuinely thought it was one of its English names, I think I've seen it somewhere, other than Caesar's De Bello Gallico. But sure, as you want. Parapleppo ( talk) 23:44, 25 October 2022 (UTC) reply

Retarget and hatnote Geriniol per Tamzin. Jay 💬 08:16, 2 November 2022 (UTC) reply
  • Retarget both to bibliography, per Jay's argument regarding the former. A correct usage is generally the primary topic over a typo, so instead hatnote to Geraniol. -- Tamzin cetacean needed (she|they|xe) 07:51, 2 November 2022 (UTC) reply
@ Tamzin: Note the spelling Geriniol, which from the beginning is a typo. It is not Gerinoil, which would have matched your argument. Geriniol is a closer match to Geraniol than to Gerin oil. Jay 💬 08:08, 2 November 2022 (UTC) reply
@ Jay: "Gerin Oil" begins Gerin Oil (or Geriniol, to give it its scientific name). -- Tamzin cetacean needed (she|they|xe) 08:11, 2 November 2022 (UTC) reply

Pennsylvania is definitely commonly misspelled in a number of ways, but it's not pronounced this way and this seems like a pretty unlikely misspelling. • Restore and send to Afd. Seems like a non-notable play on Tiki bar (given that Chiki doesn't even mention it as a possible (mis)spelling for Chickee) with an unsourced stub in the page history, but let's err on the side of figuring this out at Afd. I think Jay's suggestion of a retarget is way too far of a stretch, given that Chikki bar doesn't exist and itself would be a bit of an unlikely search term, not to mention astonishing for anyone seeking content about a place beverages are consumed rather than a snack. Mdewman6 ( talk) 21:09, 28 October 2022 (UTC) reply
  • Delete since there's no information about this term anywhere on Enwiki. Also, the stub that appears in the page history is pretty minimal and wouldn't be worth restoring in my opinion, let alone survive an AfD. CycloneYoris talk! 07:53, 1 November 2022 (UTC) reply

  • Delete. Not mentioned is not mentioned is not mentioned. Readers looking up this term will find nothing, and thus are not helped by this redirect existing: Wikipedia isn't a site for unmentioned easter eggs. Also, per Mellohi!'s response to Jay, this redirect should not be retargeted to Power-up#Origins of the term since "shines" are not "power-ups", the section just says something is similar to "Shine Get!" without explaining what "Shine Get!" is or what it means, and since I'm rather confident that is not what readers are looking for if they search this term. Was created as a redirect to Celebrity Jeopardy! (2022 TV series), but shortly thereafter retargeted to the current target by 123.51.107.94, referencing their comment (as 175.39.61.121):

Shouldn't they redirect to Jeopardy!#Gameplay? Because the second part of the game is "Double Jeopardy", I've often heard the first part called "Single Jeopardy", and it's reasonable that someone would think of Final Jeopardy as "Triple Jeopardy". Double Jeopardy! already redirects to Jeopardy!#Gameplay. The proposed target is definitely not a good target for these redirects.

I disagree with that logic. Triple Jeopardy! is a thing on Celebrity Jeopardy!, whereas on regular Jeopardy! it could only refer to a misnomer for Final Jeopardy! Even if that's a misnomer that comes up at all (and no evidence has been presented that it is), a correct usage should almost always trump an incorrect usage. Revert to the original target. -- Tamzin cetacean needed (she|they|xe) 02:25, 25 October 2022 (UTC) reply
Agree with Tamzin- even if it is a misnomer for the regular syndicated show, the actual 'Triple Jeopardy' round is in the new primetime spinoff, so I believe it should be a revert to original target (being Celebrity Jeopardy! (2022 TV series), possibly even to either the 'Format' or 'Gameplay' section within that article). Magitroopa ( talk) 03:01, 25 October 2022 (UTC) reply

  • Retarget to Celebrity Jeopardy! (2022 TV series): I don't really see "Triple Jeopardy!" as a common misnomer for final jeopardy for two reasons: (1) "Triple jeopardy" does not seem to be itself that common of a misnomer for jeopardy (2) the likelihood of someone specifically searching for Jeopardy! versus Jeopardy but calling Final Jeopardy! by the name "Triple Jeopardy!" seems quite implausible to me as it shows both familiarity with the topic in spelling it with !, but a lack of familiarity in using a misnomer. Essentially, my arguments are "triple jeopardy" is not a common misnomer for Final Jeopardy and even so WP:DIFFPUNCT is useful here. Tartar Torte 19:22, 26 October 2022 (UTC) reply
  • Retarget to Celebrity Jeopardy! (2022 TV series). Triple Jeopardy! is a format created specifically for the primetime Celebrity Jeopardy! this year. These were proposed names for the country that is now known as North Macedonia, however neither term is mentioned at that article. They are mentioned (once each) at Macedonia naming dispute#Albanian position and Macedonia naming dispute#Stalemate respectively. Macedonia (terminology) uses the unhyphenated form in several places and the hyphenated form in quote in a note referenced seven times. I think therefore that one of those articles would be a better target, but I'm not sure which. Both "Salvomacedonian" and "Slavo-Macedonian" have been used in reference to the Macedonian language and Macedonians (ethnic group) but the -ia forms have not (and it would be unusual for such forms to refer to either) so I oppose retargetting there. I'll leave a note at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject North Macedonia about this discussion. Thryduulf ( talk) 01:21, 18 October 2022 (UTC) reply

  • Delete. Google results tell me that there is something called a Wind Sprite in the Final Fantasy games, but it isn't mentioned in any of our articles on that. There are two passing mentions in articles that indicate a wind sprite is a more generic thing or possibly more than one generic thing ( Heimdall (character)#Fictional character biography, Kaze no Matasaburo#Plot), however with no content about it/them there is nowhere to point this. • Retarget to Wind spirit. "Wind sprite" could refer to a plethora of folkloric creatures associated with the wind, better to just send readers to a page that lists many of them. This is badly misleading, as most of the time, this refers to an interior stick-framed partition wall, and not a masonry wall. There is a load-bearing wall article, which this could lead to as an {{ R from antonym}}, or it could be a disambiguation page for various types of non-load-bearing walls (something akin to the removed [5] version) -- 65.92.244.114 ( talk) 03:40, 25 October 2022 (UTC) reply

The result of the discussion was retarget to Celebrity Jeopardy! (2022 TV series). (non-admin closure) CycloneYoris talk! 07:32, 1 November 2022 (UTC) reply
