Reason: I'm changing my online identity to one that's more pronounceable by English speakers. Please note that my real name is Davi dos Santos Medrade, and in Portuguese both Davi and David are pronounced the same (the last 'd' is not spoken) and David is a common English translation for Davi, like "Rei Davi" in Portuguese, "King David" in English, which, by the way, is the person after whom I was named.

I oppose this change. KB opened the Mediation Cabal page and a
Wikiquette alert against me to support a content dispute. That content dispute involved a
WP:COI in introducing material about his PhD thesis. His edits have largely been focused on his PhD thesis. Please review his edit history. He has at least one other user name.
Glrx (
talk) 00:09, 5 April 2011 (UTC)reply
The wikiquette alert was a legitimate use of the Wikiquette forum to report Glrx's poor conduct (described in the alert). And the mediation cabal request was also a legitimate use of the forum to request mediation in a longstanding dispute in which several other editors had stated their support for me. The change in username is being requested so that the mediation cabal page does not show up in a Google search for my name. Changing "Keki Burjorjee" to "keburjor" would achieve this without obscuring my identity, or hiding the conflict of interest that Glrx speaks of. Note: I've never sought to hide the COI involved in adding a sentence about my Ph.D. thesis to the Wikipedia page on genetic algorithms. It's precisely because I wanted to make the COI explicit that I made the edit under my real name. I did not, however, expect my "backpage" discussions to show up in a Google search for "Keki Burjorjee". That's something I wish to avoid.
Keki Burjorjee (
talk) 22:28, 5 April 2011 (UTC)reply
Done, I don't believe you can oppose this, since it appears to be for privacy reasons. Note that pages with Keki Burjorjee on them will still show up on Google until you edit your name out of them. Andrevan@ 19:16, 6 April 2011 (UTC)reply

Reason: I have found at many occasions that British users get offended by my username, considering it to be a reference to the
ARA General Belgrano ship from the 1982 war between Argentina and the United kingdom. Although it wasn't my purpose when I chose it (it was meant as a reference to something else), I want to avoid further unnecesary misunderstandings, so I shall change it for something else. "Cambalachero" has no offensive meaning for anyone, it's from the Argentine
lunfardo: "Cambalache" is a term for an heterogneous pile of stuff, and a "cambalachero" would be something managing such stuff (basically, a lunfardo that gets somewhat close to what a wikipedia user does). I also want to develop a SUL, which I attempted in the past, but couldn't do it because I misunderstood the requirements and thought that a "similar" (but not exact) username at a project where said username was taken and unavailable for usurpation would be possible (it is not, it has to be the same username everywhere). I have checked the new username and it seems clean ("Cambalache", however, is not).

Bureaucrat note: For usernames, the underscore and the space are considered identical by the MediaWiki software, so "Al Johri" is definitely a possibility. Would you like that instead of "Al.Johri"? ···

Reason: the reason for the name change request is stylistic. As spaces and capital letters are allowed in usernames we would like to utilize this feature. I have no edit presently.

It is currently trivially easy to identify me now anyway, and I might as well edit under my real name, and at least get credit for not editing anonymously, FWIW. Also, when you google me, I'd rather see my Wikipedia edits at the top of the hits than what is there now.
