The artilce I started was verified with sources from court records posted to court web sites, and any links to different non-court/governmental external web sites were removed (previously those web sites were the only ones that had the documents linked to/sources, but since that time, court web sites have been located).

I had 95k edits when I renamed to be exact... I'm not sure how yours would go with 25k edits... my first rename was when I had something under 20k, iirc, and it worked perfectly. However when I renamed with 95k edits, the server lag shot through the roof for about 10-15 minutes, and after everything was settled, 20,000 of my edits didn't reattribute. It took about 1 or 2 months to convince a developer to manually reallocate the rest of them (I forget exactly who it was), so if you decide to rename, and something happens, you might have to do a bit of work to get the rest of the edits reallocated. But, it certainly is possible. The ThingEditor Review 07:59, 5 January 2010 (UTC)reply

The artilce I started was verified with sources from court records posted to court web sites, and any links to different non-court/governmental external web sites were removed (previously those web sites were the only ones that had the documents linked to/sources, but since that time, court web sites have been located).

Reason: No harassment but i just like the sound of this new username and my old name implies that I'm an arrogant person or wannabe thug. I don't know what I was thinking lol but my new username seems more appropriate.
Reason:Someone rightly pointed to me that I am not Barack Obama, hence my username might be misleading. I would be grateful if it could be changed to the proposed new username instead. Cheers.

Reason: I just joined Wikipedia as an editor for the first time after being a long time reader. After making my first edit I was advised my name was not appropriate due to it sounding like it represents a group of people / company rather than a person, and gave the impression of a conflict of interest. I apologize for the mistake (it was not intentional), I think i was a bit hasty in reading the rules re usernames before choosing mine. Please change it to MatthewCummins which is my real/full name as I am keen to be open as to who I am.

Gosh... how thoroughly depressing. So I sort of have to give up or start over again! When you say "it is likely your older edits will NOT be reattributed", does that mean they could be attributed, and how could I know? --
Geronimo20 (

I'm not certain. I did
user:Treelo -->
user:Baa, and the almost 17K edits did not transfer, so I cannot make any guarantees. A developer would know better, although they frown on any rename with > 10K edits. --

Seems vague. So is this the case: editors who have contributed a lot can effect a name change only by abandoning their edit record and starting again from scratch using a sock puppet? --

Okay, sounds like reallocation fails when there are server errors. So I'll take the gamble Avi. Will you please make the name change. Thanks :) --
