Thanks for the speedy action
User:MBisanz, but having a publicly-visible page redirect from my now-unused real name page to my current user page kind of defeats the goal of a modest degree of pseudonymity. Any way to fix it so that re-direct does not show the way it currently does? Thank you. -
No barometer of intelligence (
talk) 17:20, 8 February 2013 (UTC)reply
I've gone ahead and simply deleted redirects altogether under U1 (the redirects are merely a technical byproduct of the renaming process). Please note, however, that the rename will still show up in the logs.
Tyrol5[Talk] 19:59, 8 February 2013 (UTC)reply
Yes,
User:tyrol5, I knew that the rename (both going to real-name editing last May 12th and now back to the previously-used pseudonym) would always be publicly viewable via the Wikipedia database server's editing logs. It never forgets anything, unless a high-level admin changes an individual page's editing history for some very serious legal reason. If - after a suitable period of review by the Wikipedia editing community - the rename and delete page(s) log files could be removed from the former real-name account that no longer exists, I would pronounce myself thoroughly satisfied with what has been done by the admin community here. I am not trying to conceal any past editing history, but the page as it currently exists with the log file addenda appended does not accomplish my fairly simple goal of trying to make going straight to my six-year editing history a little less of a single mouse click away from someone who just idly Googles my real-world name. Thanks, guys.
No barometer of intelligence (
talk) 00:23, 9 February 2013 (UTC)reply
Well, If you're very concerned about privacy, I suppose you could request
oversight of the logs pertaining to your rename. Your old userpage, however, would probably still appear on Google results due to the search engine's "cache" feature, but those viewing would not (I presume) be able to view the contribs or rename logs, thus fully separating the two. Take my advice for what it's worth, though, since that's not my area of expertise.
Tyrol5[Talk] 01:25, 9 February 2013 (UTC)reply
I went ahead and revdel'd the part of the log that discloses the connection to your real name. The Google cache will clear in the next month, so searches for your real name will not longer point to the deleted page. If you want to expedite the process, you can file a request at
Google, just make sure you copy the URL from Google's search results, not from Wikipedia itself (there is some funky stuff with how we process URLs). I think that should fix your concerns. MBisanztalk 02:48, 9 February 2013 (UTC)reply

Thanks for the speedy action
User:MBisanz, but having a publicly-visible page redirect from my now-unused real name page to my current user page kind of defeats the goal of a modest degree of pseudonymity. Any way to fix it so that re-direct does not show the way it currently does? Thank you. -
