IIRC, "font-size: large" is browser dependent

This MediaWiki page specifically recommends "font-size: large" as an update for obsolete code, and it also explains the relative sizing (although the size of "large" listed there, 129%, does not match my browser's relative rendering, which displays "large" text at 137%, so maybe we should pick a percentage for that reason; jumping from 110% to 137% is probably not desirable). Someone else should check my observations to see if yours match. According to
Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2022_January_10#Template:Small, "font-size: large" (currently used by {{
large}}) does not work on all browsers. There's little need for multiple "large" sizes, so using the 110% from {{
larger}} (or whatever number we want to pick) should be sufficient. It also makes no sense that "larger" is smaller than "large", given the usual sequence in English is "large", "larger", "largest".

- Redirect Template:Larger to Template:Large per the previous TFD. I would put a citation needed tag on the assertion/recollection from the previous TFD that
IIRC, "font-size: large" is browser dependent
. This MediaWiki page specifically recommends "font-size: large" as an update for obsolete code, and it also explains the relative sizing (although the size of "large" listed there, 129%, does not match my browser's relative rendering, which displays "large" text at 137%, so maybe we should pick a percentage for that reason; jumping from 110% to 137% is probably not desirable). Someone else should check my observations to see if yours match. Maybe we should merge big, large, and larger and render at 120%. – Jonesey95 ( talk) 03:27, 7 January 2023 (UTC)- I have boldly added {{ big}} to this discussion. I propose that we redirect Template:Larger and Template:Big to Template:Large and render them at 120% of the base page font size. The reason for "Template:Large" to be the canonical name is that it is the opposite of "Template:Small" (in CSS terms). Although there is a logic in "larger" (relative to parent) vs. "large" (large) in CSS, it does seem like there is prevailing sentiment that this terminology is confusing in the relevant context on Wikipedia, and I agree with the nominator that there's little need for multiple large sizes, and granular sizing can be achieved via template using Template:Font anyway. — Alalch E. 00:01, 8 January 2023 (UTC)
