Suspected sockpuppets

Like the confirmed sockpuppet Giray Altay, this user heavily edits articles related to Hunnic and Greek/Roman figures. However they also make minor edits to Southern European football articles.

Within about 1 hour of Mark._Palo Alto's account being created, they protest the removal of content added by Giray Altay: [1], [2]

Aetius link edits: [3], [4]

Southern Euro football edits: [5], [6]

It is interesting to see that Mark._PaloAlto's proposed edit at Talk:Juventus F.C. contains Italian language content. Ermenrich previously said at the SPI investigation that Giray Altay has translated several pages from Italian. - Hunan201p ( talk) 15:05, 30 January 2023 (UTC) Hunan201p ( talk) 15:05, 30 January 2023 (UTC) reply

From Talk:Huns:
  • Giray Altay wrote: True, Priscus described East Asian features in Attila, and I also personally think that all Hun rulers had East Asian features, just like the rulers of all [other] Turkic people (we don't known, however, what the bulk of the Huns looked like. Leave alone the, later, mixing with the Goths, we still don't know how even the Xiongnu looked like. They lived near China, but most of the Xiongnu art shows people with Europid features, similar to the neighbouring Yuezhi).
  • Mark._PaloAlto wrote: Indeed the Huns were Xiongnu related, apparently a weak offshoot of them (also, the Xiongnu, like the Huns, weren't of homogeneous ethnicity). The place where this artifact was discovered belonged to the Xiongnu sphere of influence (it was on the edge of their hypothesized territory, where they had contact with artisan). It has characteristics of Xiongnu dress and harnessing, as well as hairstyle (also, the perforation-like eyes, frontal bossing, big head, stocky, short legs, long bust and wide shoulders, are reminiscent of the European description of the Huns, but this is not stated by Francfort, just my opinion) that is why Francfort say it is unquestionably Xiongnu or, more hesitantly, Yuezhi. - Hunan201p ( talk) 16:27, 31 January 2023 (UTC) reply

Hunan201p, I'm also suspicious, but Giray Altay is actually a sock puppet of Frankish 101 ( talk · contribs)/ User:Dirk0001 ( talk · contribs).-- Ermenrich ( talk) 15:18, 30 January 2023 (UTC) reply

@ Ermenrich: My bad. Thanks for the helpful info that I glossed over. Do you think I should re-file under Frankish 101, or do you have your own plans for that one? - Hunan201p ( talk) 22:19, 30 January 2023 (UTC) reply
Probably just leave it for the clerks.— Ermenrich ( talk) 23:38, 30 January 2023 (UTC) reply
  • I have some more evidence
  1. Compare: Giray Altay I reverted you because you constantly edit the article, thought we are discussing its content here. [7]; Conversation is ongoing here, if you really want to give credit to fringe theories or put emphasis on the etymologies you yourself like, you should at least discuss it here before publishing in the article. [8]. Mark. Palo Alto: Ermenrich has started editing on the discussed matters, changing the article to his/her view. But they don't have even established consensus and we are still discussing. [9]; I quoted the full sentence from Savelyev and Jeong instead of what Ermenrich added in his/her several unapproved edits. [10].
I think this is fairly noteworthy because it shows the same failure to understand the policies on consensus and discussion.
  1. Mark. PaloAlto is also aware of RFC's despite only having had an account for a short while, see [11]. Interestingly, Giray Altay was informed of RFC's shortly before his block [12]
  2. I'll also note that, despite my relatively minimal involvement at Talk:Huns#Székelys and never having interacted with him before, Mark. PaloAlto has an obvious grudge against me, almost as though I got him banned from Wikipedia before...: In this case, I noticed that Ermenrich has a lot of influence on the topic and some strong beliefs [13], also [14].
  3. They have a similar manner to making posts, compare this string by Mark. Palo Alto: [15] various big edits thrown up together. DG does the same thing, often and repeatedly, see e.g. [16]
  4. Attempts to have certain scholars excluded from articles because of various "biases": DG Also, hate talking about conflict of interest; and I am not making any accusations, but: Omeljan Pritsak was a disinterested Ukrainian observer; Helfen, Doerfer, and Schramm were all German... [17]; Mark. PaloAlto: It also appears that Savelyev is one of the scholars opposing the Xiongnu-Hun connection. So if we want to talk about bias we can talk about him... (and here we should wonder why did Savelyev leave this out?)
I'm reasonably sure that these are the same person.-- Ermenrich ( talk) 20:49, 4 February 2023 (UTC) reply
