Recommend delete. This has redirected to the Taxonomic rank meaning (see Cohort (taxonomy) for years. Plantdrew recently changed it to redirect to the Cohort dab page to prevent links for non-taxonomic biological uses being added by mistake. However, there are no other biological related entries in the DAB, so I think that is not an ideal solution. Delete the redirect entirely. MB 14:28, 21 February 2018 (UTC) reply

Keep A generational cohort as used in cohort studies is generally biological. All the best: Rich  Farmbrough, 15:09, 21 February 2018 (UTC). reply
"Redirects are used to help people arrive more quickly at the page they want to read". Is it unlikely that anyone would be searching for Cohort (biology); that is an unnatural disambiguation used within WP to title different articles. Generational cohort and cohort studies are both listed Cohort which might help someone find those articles if they searched on cohort. But this term is not useful. MB 20:36, 21 February 2018 (UTC) reply
Delete I went through all the articles targetting this redirect a week or two ago and retargetted all article space links to other titles. While most incoming links intended the taxonomic rank, this redirect was attracting a significant number of links that intended cohort study or generational cohort. Cohort (taxonomy) is a more precise term for the taxonomic rank. "Cohort (biology)" is not precise enough for the taxonomic rank. I also ran across Cohort (group) targetting Cohort (statistics) and retargetted that to the disambiguation page; (group) is hopelessly imprecise, it applies to all but one of the dab page entries. I don't see much point in generally retaining redirects from incomplete disambiguations; by nature, they are not natural search terms (bearing a parenthesized disambiguator). Plantdrew ( talk) 03:02, 22 February 2018 (UTC) reply
  • Keep. As Rich Farmbrough and Plantdrew show, there are at least two other articles listed at the disambiguation page to which this could refer. We shouldn't assume that readers are unfamiliar with parenthetical disambiguation or that the parentheses make this an implausible search term. I can see a marginal benefit to keeping this and no risk of confusion or inaccuracy, so no benefit to deleting it. –  Arms & Hearts ( talk) 22:20, 22 February 2018 (UTC) reply

The result of the discussion was Mixed. Opted to keep all three mentioned below — I'm convinced that the particularly common usage of premeditated makes it a reasonable redirect in addition to prepense and premeditate. ~ Amory ( utc) 17:34, 12 March 2018 (UTC) reply

Out of this batch of redirects, all of them except Premeditate were created by Neelix (see WP:X1). They all originally targeted Premeditation, now a redirect that targets Malice aforethought. Over time, due to a few WP:BLANKANDREDIRECTs that were performed and bots bypassing the redirects after such edits occurred, the redirect now target Murder#Degrees of murder. (Please see the redirects' edit histories for further information.) At the least, all of the redirects in this discussion except Premeditate and maybe Prepense should probably be deleted per WP:TNT due to WP:X1's existence; the aforementioned two should probably be retargeted to Malice aforethought. Steel1943 ( talk) 13:20, 2 March 2018 (UTC) reply

  • Redirect all per nom's plan to Premeditation / Malice aforethought. AngusWOOF ( barksniff) 19:16, 2 March 2018 (UTC) updated 15:37, 3 March 2018 (UTC) reply
  • Delete and retarget per nom's plan. Silly effort to cover every possible version of a word. Legacypac ( talk) 05:35, 3 March 2018 (UTC) reply
  • Retarget premeditated, weak retarget prepense, delete others. With all respect to the opinions above, we'd be better off deleting premeditate and retaining premeditated given the relative frequencies of the words (and hence their likelihood as search terms) as seen e.g. in Google Ngrams viewer [1]
    • "Premeditated" is a reasonably common word, whereas "premeditate" and the rest strike me as barely being words at all, at best back-formations. Among all the "premeditat*" words, premeditated is far and away the most common, with the others being 1/30th or less as common (and less common even than "prepense")
    • Prepense doesn't strike me as very useful given that it's just a WP:PTM for malice prepense which is already a redirect to malice aforethought, but I don't feel strongly about it either way.
    • The other prepens* forms are basically nonsense, archaic, or not used in this way. Ngrams Viewer has never heard of "prepenses" at all, and finds the rest in tiny fractions of a percent of "premeditated". "Prepensing" is used in ways that have nothing to do with premeditated murder, e.g. "a prepensing review", "prepensing for publication", etc.

  • Do not redirect. This is as likely to refer to a lack of trust, as it is to be used in a religious context. I think the redirect should be either deleted per WP:XY or turned into a two-entry dab page. – Uanfala (talk) 20:50, 10 March 2018 (UTC) reply

These redirects are WP:COSTLY since this is subject to change. I had originally considered retargeting these redirects to List of exceptional asteroids, the target of redirect List of asteroids by size, but the target article does not have information about smaller names asteroids. Since the redirect is not a title of a book or another media subject, but rather targets the subject which it claims to be important, the redirect is misleading since it sounds like the title of an opinion piece. Steel1943 ( talk) 19:12, 2 March 2018 (UTC) reply

Hang Tuah State is not mention in the current target article, and Hang Tuah is not mentioned in the article either (aside from the see also section). Hang Tuah is probably a better target, and Malacca Sultanate does mention Hang Tuah, but without the word state. Oiyarbepsy ( talk) 06:05, 12 February 2018 (UTC) reply

I don't speak Polish, but based on context I suspect that this is the Polish word for basketball. It seems rather silly, then, to redirect it to one particular league. I'm sure there are lots of basketball leagues in Poland. Oiyarbepsy ( talk) 04:21, 2 March 2018 (UTC) reply

  • Delete Google translate says you are correct it is Polish for basketball. We do not need or want redirects from every language for every word to somewhat random pages. It's a Neelix redirect too and he made thousands of silly redirects like this. Legacypac ( talk) 06:32, 2 March 2018 (UTC) reply
