Does not meet notability guidelines (staff officer), nor WP:SOLDIER, as no source for the Knight's Cross has been provided. The article has been tagged since march 2016. I found one RS mentioning Schönfelder as a " close classmate" of Jochen Peiper. This is a one-sentence mention and being an acquaintance of a famous person by itself does not appear to be notable.
