This is a good example of why WP:Wikipedia is not a dictionary is a good policy. As a modern American the word "lady" means something like "an upper-class (or at least respectable) woman." However the article is not about upper-class or respectable women. It is about the word "lady", in violation of the basic principle of "not a dictionary." The fact that the same word can mean many things to many people is another point to consider, and a part of the cause of the weakness of the article, although I'm sure the editors did their best.
